positivos no sistema.
This work arises in the scope of the accomplishment on the Master’s thesis in
Industrial Engineering and Management. It aims to implement Total Productive
Maintenance, known as TPM, on an elevators’ production company.
Through this methodology’s implementation, it is intended to increase equipment’s
efficiency by reducing stopping times, maintenance costs and putting maintenance
itself at the process center. This allows maintenance to be seen as an integrated
part in the whole productive process, and not as a reactive activity, which
responds to breakdowns, but as a preventive agent which anticipates possible
problems.
For this, initially a literature review was developed where it was analyzed and
encompassed TPM’s methodology themes, their historical developments, pillars in
which this methodology settles on and the advantages for the company of
implementing it.
Some process’ performance indicators are also presented in order to understand if
the improvements introduced had a positive effect on the system. After the
literature review, the company’s characterization was made and the actual state of
maintenance process was analyzed in its various aspects.
At last, the identified problems were analyzed and reported the improvements that
could be made in preventive and in autonomous maintenance
The relation between the State and the Catholic Church throughout the Estado Novo period went through different moments. This was especially so in the 3rd quarter of the 20th century period, during which several tensions occurred in institutional relations. In addition to these elements, this text analyzes other observation levels that may contribute to knowledge-gathering, specifically expressive cultural practices associated with music. Thus, starting from the intersection of state power on the one hand, and the presence of religious themes in so-called popular music, specifically developed for music festivals, on the other, this text aims to discuss the role of this musical categoryas a tool of religious propaganda in its interconnection with political power.publishersversionpublishe
Mauriac Syndrome: A Rare Complication of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus
Mauriac syndrome, first described in 1930, is typically diagnosed in young patients with poorly controlled type 1 diabetes mellitus and growth retardation, delayed puberty, Cushingoid features, hypercholesterolaemia and hepatomegaly. However, the sole presenting feature of Mauriac syndrome can be hepatic glycogenosis in both adults and children. The mainstay of treatment for hepatic glycogenosis is strict control of glucose levels, with an excellent prognosis with improved glycaemic control. The authors present the case of a 22-year-old female patient with type 1 diabetes mellitus and a history of poor glycaemic control who was admitted with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). She complained of episodes of right upper quadrant abdominal pain associated with nausea and vomiting for the last 2 months with worsening in the last 48 hours. Physical examination was remarkable for short stature and tenderness over the hepatic area with a mildly enlarged liver. The patient had elevated liver enzymes and persistent hyperlactacidaemia despite DKA resolution. Liver imaging suggested diffuse fat infiltration. The clinical suspicion of hepatic glycogenosis was confirmed by liver biopsy. After glycaemic control was improved, liver enzymes normalized and the episodes of abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting subsided
Proteome signatures-how are they obtained and what do they teach us?
The dawn of a new Proteomics era, just over a decade ago, allowed for large-scale protein profiling studies that have been applied in the identification of distinctive molecular cell signatures. Proteomics provides a powerful approach for identifying and studying these multiple molecular markers in a vast array of biological systems, whether focusing on basic biological research, diagnosis, therapeutics, or systems biology. This is a continuously expanding field that relies on the combination of different methodologies and current advances, both technological and analytical, which have led to an explosion of protein signatures and biomarker candidates. But how are these biological markers obtained? And, most importantly, what can we learn from them? Herein, we briefly overview the currently available approaches for obtaining relevant information at the proteome level, while noting the current and future roles of both traditional and modern proteomics. Moreover, we provide some considerations on how the development of powerful and robust bioinformatics tools will greatly benefit high-throughput proteomics. Such strategies are of the utmost importance in the rapidly emerging field of immunoproteomics, which may play a key role in the identification of antigens with diagnostic and/or therapeutic potential and in the development of new vaccines. Finally, we consider the present limitations in the discovery of new signatures and biomarkers and speculate on how such hurdles may be overcome, while also offering a prospect for the next few years in what could be one of the most significant strategies in translational medicine research.FCT and COMPETE grants PTDC/BIA-MIC/113450/2009, FCOMP-01-0124-FEDER-

a clinical perspective
This article was funded by the project NORTE-08-5369-FSE-000018, supported by Norte Portugal Regional Programme (Norte2020), under the PORTUGAL 2020 Partnership Agreement, through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and by FCT—Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia [UID/ BIM/04293/2013].Background: In phenylketonuria (PKU), modified casein glycomacropeptide supplements (CGMP-AA) are used as an alternative to the traditional phenylalanine (Phe)-free L-amino acid supplements (L-AA). However, studies focusing on the long-term nutritional status of CGMP-AA are lacking. This retrospective study evaluated the long-term impact of CGMP-AA over a mean of 29 months in 11 patients with a mean age at CGMP-AA onset of 28 years (range 15–43) [8 females; 2 hyperphenylalaninaemia (HPA), 3 mild PKU, 3 classical PKU and 3 late-diagnosed]. Outcome measures included metabolic control, anthropometry, body composition and biochemical parameters. Results: CGMP-AA, providing 66% of protein equivalent intake from protein substitute, was associated with no significant change in blood Phe with CGMP-AA compared with baseline (562 ± 289 µmol/L vs 628 ± 317 µmol/L; p = 0.065). In contrast, blood tyrosine significantly increased on CGMP-AA (52.0 ± 19.2 μmol/L vs 61.4 ± 23.8 μmol/L; p = 0.027). Conclusions: Biochemical nutritional markers remained unchanged which is an encouraging finding in adults with PKU, many of whom are unable to maintain full adherence with nutritionally fortified protein substitutes. Longitudinal, prospective studies with larger sample sizes are necessary to fully understand the metabolic impact of using CGMP-AA in PKU.publishersversionpublishe
Atrial fibrillation ablation : the added value of adenosine test in confirming pulmonary vein isolation
© The European Society of Cardiology 2018. All rights reserved.Introduction: Adenosine test has been increasingly used to confirm pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) in patients undergoing ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF). However, its impact on the success of ablation remains unknown.
Purposes: To evaluate the results of the adenosine triphosphate (ATP) test in patients undergoing PVI and assess the success of ablation related to the use of this test (adenosine-guided PVI versus conventional PVI).
Methods: Single-center prospective study of consecutive patients undergoing first AF ablation procedure, started at January 2013. After ablation, the persistence of PVI was tested with adenosine triphosphate administration (15–30mg by intravenous route). When adenosine triphosphate-induced pulmonary vein conduction (termed as reconduction) was observed, additional energy applications of radiofrequency were applied to obtain persistent isolation on retesting. Cardiac event recorder was performed at 7 days, 3, 6 and 12 months after ablation and annually from the 2nd year.
The adenosine triphosphate-induced reconduction rate was evaluated depending on the pulmonary vein involved. The impact of adenosine test implementation in the success of the ablation at 365 days (recurrence of AF or supraventricular tachycardia) was determined by analysis of overall survival using Kaplan-Meier method.
Results: Adenosine test was performed on 151 patients, with reconduction detected on at least one of the pulmonary veins in 11 patients (33.8%) and in 17.6% of the 641 pulmonary veins evaluated, with no statistically significant difference between the different veins. The overall success rate of AF ablation at 365 days was 72% and did not differ significantly between adenosine-guided PVI versus conventional PVI (74.3% versus 70.8%, P = NS), although the duration of follow-up had been shorter in the first group (median of 13.0 vs. 38.3 months; p<0.001).
Conclusion: The adenosine-induced reconduction occurs in about one third of the patients. However, the additional adenosine-guided energy applications do not seem to increase the overall success of ablation. We found no significant reduction in the 1 year incidence of recurrent atrial tachyarrhythmias by ATP-guided PVI compared with conventional PVI.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
O presente trabalho
desenvolvimento do modelo do GAP-SASUC. Tendo
psicológico do estudante universitário. São, ainda,
referidas algumas implicações do desenvolvimento e
do aluno e promoção do sucesso no Ensino Superior.Currently, school failure comes up as one of the
biggest concerns regarding all discussions over higher
education, which has lead to the development of new
school-failure preventive intervention strategies. The
present study aims to present an interdisciplinary intervention
program at the level of academic success promotion,
including psychological support, social support
and promotion of healthy lifestyles, which was
put to practice through GAP-SASUC’s model. Regarding
the four intervention areas under this model (psychology
consultation; peer support; social work; research),
the results concerning the identification of higher
education students’ needs and problems, the intervention
strategies used and their assessment are presented.
The results, either in reference to the raise on participation,
or regarding the positive assessment obtained
from the students involved, corroborate the utility brought
by this interactive model to the psychological development
of higher education students. Furthermore, some
implications decurrent from the development and use of
this model, with incidence for higher education students’
well-being and success promotion, are mentionedinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
