Henri Thomas: écriture de guerre et silence créateur ou les sources de son identité narrative

This study, dealing with narrative identityduring the war in Henri Thomas’s epistolarydiscourse, implies the considerationof factors such as the awareness of his historicalself. Such awareness locates him inthe perspective of being a «story-man» thatcan be told in the discourse and becomeself-revealing, which situates us before aman liable to progress and for whom compromiseis his only aim. This will be thematerial used during the first stage of thewar (soldier Thomas), and it will later onbecome a spiritual compromise throughwhich he searches for his salvation and hiscountry’s, France. All this occurs thanks tothe creative silence through which life, identity, and literary universe appear inperfect communion

    Calculation of Nott dynamic retinoscopy

The accommodation that the eye uses to focus at a certain distance does not correspond exactly with the value of the accommodative stimulus. Such accommodation matches the diopter value of what is called the accommodative response. The Nott method is used in the optometric examination to measure the accommodative response at 40 cm by dynamic retinoscopy. The test is performed with the eye compensated by its neutralizing lens (PNL), obtained from binocular subjective examination. In the literature one can find a measurement procedure in which an accommodative test is situated at a distance of 40 cm, starting from that distance, the optometrist without moving the test, shifts the retinoscope until he finds the point of neutralization. The value of the lead or lag of accommodation is usually obtained by subtracting at 2.50D the inverse of the distance to the point of neutralization (in meters). The value of 2.50D is considered accommodative stimulus at 40 cm. The normal value of the accommodative response, considered for the test at 40 cm, is +0'50 or +0.25 D with a standard deviation of ± 0'25D

This study has as main objective to investigate Jungian typology from the results of the Briggs-Myers Typology Inventory Form G, (1995) in a sample of patients with Depressive Disorder, analyzing in turn, relations with Depressive Personality and different Clinical Patterns of Personality. Starting with a sample of 82 patients with clinical diagnosis of Depressive Disorder, we studied first the typological pattern and its behavior in relation to depression. Second, the Relationship between typology and the different Clinical Patterns of Personality and third, we compared the typology of patients with and without Depressive Personality. Results show that patients with Depressive Disorder (BDI-I, 1979) and in most Clinical Patterns of Personality (MCMI-III,2007) have a clear preference for Introversion over Extroversion and for Sensation over Intuition. As severity of Depression increases, the preference for Introversion also increases.

Development of model based sensors for the supervision of a solar dryer

Solar dryers are increasingly used in developing countries as an alternative to drying in open air, however the inherent variability of the drying conditions during day and along year drive the need for achieving low cost sensors that would enable to characterize the drying process and to react accordingly. This paper provides three different and complementary approaches for model based sensors that make use of the psychrometric properties of the air inside the drying chamber and the temperature oscillations of the wood along day. The simplest smart sensor, Smart-1, using only two Sensirion sensors, allows to estimate the accumulated water extracted from wood along a complete drying cycle with a correlation coefficient of 0.97. Smart-2 is a model based sensor that relays on the diffusion kinetics by means of assesing temperature and relative humidity of the air inside the kiln. Smart-2 model allows to determine the diffusivity, being the average value of D for the drying cycle studied equal to 5.14 × 10−10 m2 s−1 and equal to 5.12 × 10−10 m2 s−1 for two experiments respectively. The multidistributed supervision of the dryer shows up the lack of uniformity in drying conditions supported by the wood planks located in the inner or center of the drying chamber where constant drying rate kinetics predominate. Finally, Smart-3 indicates a decreasing efficiency along the drying process from 0.9 to 0.

Beneficial Effects of Olive Oil Enriched with Lycopene on the Plasma Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Profile of Hypercholesterolemic Patients

Olive oil and lycopene are foods that have potent antioxidant activity. The objective was to determine the effects of consumption of olive oil enriched with lycopene on oxidative stress biomarkers in hypercholesterolemic subjects. We examined the effects of oil enriched with lycopene extract daily intake during 1 month on plasma antioxidant capacity, lipids profile (triacylgycerols, total cholesterol, cHDL; cLDL, ox-LDL), biomarkers of oxidative stress, and inflammatory markers related with atherosclerosis risk (C-reactive protein (CRP), IL-6; sDC4L) in subjects hypercholesteremics (cholesterol > 220 mg/dL). In the group consuming olive oil-lycopene, significant increases (p < 0.05) in the levels of plasma lycopene concentration (0.146 ± 0.03 versus 0.202 ± 0.04 (µmol/L)), α-carotene (0.166 ± 0.064 versus 0.238 ± 0.07) and in β-carotene (0.493 ± 0.187 versus 0.713 ± 0.221) were observed. These results are linked with the increases of plasma antioxidants and decreases biomarkers of oxidative stress (carbonyl groups, malondialdehyde and 8-hydroxy-deoxiguanosine) observed in hypercholesterolemic group. In relation to lipid profile, a significant decrease was observed in the levels of ox-LDL (781 ± 302 versus 494 ± 200), remaining unchanged the levels of TG, cholesterol, HDL and LDL-c. Regarding inflammatory biomarkers, the levels of CRP and IL-6 decreased significantly. The positive results obtained in this study support the use of olive oil enriched with lycopene to reduce the risk of coronary disease
