Henri Thomas: écriture de guerre et silence créateur ou les sources de son identité narrative
This study, dealing with narrative identityduring the war in Henri Thomas’s epistolarydiscourse, implies the considerationof factors such as the awareness of his historicalself. Such awareness locates him inthe perspective of being a «story-man» thatcan be told in the discourse and becomeself-revealing, which situates us before aman liable to progress and for whom compromiseis his only aim. This will be thematerial used during the first stage of thewar (soldier Thomas), and it will later onbecome a spiritual compromise throughwhich he searches for his salvation and hiscountry’s, France. All this occurs thanks tothe creative silence through which life, identity, and literary universe appear inperfect communion
From winery by-product to healthy product: bioavailability, redox signaling and oxidative stress modulation by wine pomace product
The wine pomace is the main winery by-products that suppose an economic and environmental problem and their use as a functional ingredient are being increasingly recognized as a good and inexpensive source of bioactive compounds. In this sense, it is known the potential health properties of wine pomace products in the prevention of disorders associated with oxidative stress and inflammation such as endothelial dysfunction, hypertension, hyperglycemia, diabetes, obesity. Those effects are due to the bioactive compounds of wine pomace and the mechanisms concern especially modulation of antioxidant/prooxidant activity, improvement of nitric oxide bioavailability, reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines and modulation of antioxidant/inflammatory signal pathways. This review mainly summarizes the mechanisms of wine pomace products as modulators of oxidative status involved in cell pathologies as well as their potential therapeutic use for cardiovascular diseases. For this purpose, the review provides an overview of the findings related to the wine pomace bioactive compounds profile, their bioavailability and the action mechanisms for maintaining the redox cell balance involved in health benefits. The review suggests an important role for wine pomace product in cardiovascular diseases prevention and their regular food intake may attenuate the development and progression of comorbidities associated with cardiovascular diseases. The authors thank the financial support of the Spain Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (Ref. Pacto epistolar en las cartas de Jorge Guillén a Teresa: la revelación de una identidad narrativa
Throughout his life, Jorge Guillén maintained a constant and continuous correspondence with numerous people, including poets, editors, academics and a long etcetera. In the family sphere, in addition to the letters to his first wife, the epistolary exchange that he had with his daughter Teresa for decades stands out. In this unpublished epistolary, Guillén configures a discursive ethos that will reveal a unique and singular narrative identity. But all this is only possible thanks to the epistolary pact that he is going to establish and seal with his daughter. This pact, which has its own specific manifestations at pragmatic, as well as at semantic and formal levels, helps to better understand the profound and rich personality of the author, his «essence»; an essence in which Guillén the man and Guillén the poet are imbricated in perfect harmony and unity.
This study has as main objective to investigate Jungian typology from the results of the Briggs-Myers Typology Inventory Form G, (1995) in a sample of patients with Depressive Disorder, analyzing in turn, relations with Depressive Personality and different Clinical Patterns of Personality. Starting with a sample of 82 patients with clinical diagnosis of Depressive Disorder, we studied first the typological pattern and its behavior in relation to depression. Second, the Relationship between typology and the different Clinical Patterns of Personality and third, we compared the typology of patients with and without Depressive Personality. Results show that patients with Depressive Disorder (BDI-I, 1979) and in most Clinical Patterns of Personality (MCMI-III,2007) have a clear preference for Introversion over Extroversion and for Sensation over Intuition. As severity of Depression increases, the preference for Introversion also increases.
Calculation of Nott dynamic retinoscopy
The accommodation that the eye uses to focus at a certain distance does not correspond exactly with the value of the accommodative stimulus. Such accommodation matches the diopter value of what is called the accommodative response. The Nott method is used in the optometric examination to measure the accommodative response at 40 cm by dynamic retinoscopy. The test is performed with the eye compensated by its neutralizing lens (PNL), obtained from binocular subjective examination. In the literature one can find a measurement procedure in which an accommodative test is situated at a distance of 40 cm, starting from that distance, the optometrist without moving the test, shifts the retinoscope until he finds the point of neutralization. The value of the lead or lag of accommodation is usually obtained by subtracting at 2.50D the inverse of the distance to the point of neutralization (in meters). The value of 2.50D is considered accommodative stimulus at 40 cm. The normal value of the accommodative response, considered for the test at 40 cm, is +0'50 or +0.25 D with a standard deviation of ± 0'25D
Suicide deaths and substance use in the Galician provinces between 2006 and 2020
[Abstract] Background: Suicide is a serious public health problem that affects our entire country, including the Galician provinces. The aim of this research was to study the variation in completed suicide rates, between 2006 and 2020, in the different Galician provinces and their relationship with the consumption of addictive substances.
Methods: Completed suicide data from the Spanish Office for National Statistics and the Institute of Legal Medicine of Galicia were analyzed with a Joinpoint regression model to determine time trends. The relationship between the variation in completed suicide rates with sociodemographic variables obtained from the Spanish Office for National Statistics and variables related to the consumption of substances obtained from the survey on alcohol and other drugs in Spain (EDADES) of the Government Delegation for the National Plan on Drugs was also analyzed.
Results: The Joinpoint regression model did not reveal any point of significant change in the period studied for any Galician province. The following variables correlated positively with the variation in completed suicide rates in the Galician provinces: masculinity ratio, average age, daily alcohol consumption and daily illegal substance consumption.
Conclusion: Applying preventive strategies on the daily consumption of alcohol and illegal substances would help reduce the rates of completed suicide in the Galician provinces.Principado de Asturias; PCTI-2021-2023 IDI/2021/11
Analysis of the calculation of the amplitude of accommodation
The push-up method is routinely used to measure the amplitude of accommodation. In this method the diopter value corresponding to the nearest point that the eye can focus is determined, wearing his neutralizing lens, but not the value of the maximum diopter variation that makes the eye. The aim of this paper is to review the calculation described in the push-up method taking into account the real position of the near point of the eye. In the subjective push-up method, it is calculated the reciprocal of the distance from the lens until the test object at this position of first, slight, sustained blur. We calculated the differences between this value and the ocular amplitude of accommodation, taking into account that the eye is really looking at the image of first blur through the neutralizing lens. Experimental measurements were also taken to determine whether they were similar to theoretical values. The results obtained by the two calculation methods compared were in general significantly different and the difference was greater for young people with high ametropy. The theoretical results were in agreement with the experimental ones. According to the optometric information required must select the appropriate calculation method, since the values obtained in each of them are not comparable
Development of model based sensors for the supervision of a solar dryer
Solar dryers are increasingly used in developing countries as an alternative to drying in open air, however the inherent variability of the drying conditions during day and along year drive the need for achieving low cost sensors that would enable to characterize the drying process and to react accordingly. This paper provides three different and complementary approaches for model based sensors that make use of the psychrometric properties of the air inside the drying chamber and the temperature oscillations of the wood along day. The simplest smart sensor, Smart-1, using only two Sensirion sensors, allows to estimate the accumulated water extracted from wood along a complete drying cycle with a correlation coefficient of 0.97. Smart-2 is a model based sensor that relays on the diffusion kinetics by means of assesing temperature and relative humidity of the air inside the kiln. Smart-2 model allows to determine the diffusivity, being the average value of D for the drying cycle studied equal to 5.14 × 10−10 m2 s−1 and equal to 5.12 × 10−10 m2 s−1 for two experiments respectively. The multidistributed supervision of the dryer shows up the lack of uniformity in drying conditions supported by the wood planks located in the inner or center of the drying chamber where constant drying rate kinetics predominate. Finally, Smart-3 indicates a decreasing efficiency along the drying process from 0.9 to 0.
