    Seizing the business opportunities of MyData service delivery network: Transforming the Business Models for Health Insurance Companies

    Purpose: This paper discusses how personal data-driven service delivery networks based on MyData phenomenon may impact and transform the business models and offer new kinds of business opportunities especially for health insurance business Design/Methodology/Approach: This research is a case study / empirical Findings: This study demonstrates how health insurance organizations are heading towards acting as active members of human centric, collaborative service delivery networks. The biggest opportunity transformation from transaction based to service-based businesss Research limitations/implications:  As the use of personal data is still a paradigm in Europe, the results of this study address the potential use and implications and cannot be validated through large-scale empirical studies. Practical implications: This research highlights how companies should build adaptable service architecture that are easily connected or disconnected from the other organizations in their business ecosystems in order to allow smooth data usage and sharing. The service delivery network approach may offer insurance companies the needed structure and role in the emerging MyData business. &nbsp

    Expectations to data : Perspectives of service providers and users of future health and wellness services

    The healthcare and wellness sector currently attempts to provide more proactive service models with data-driven solutions. This study examines the expectations and values related to personal data i.e. data valences from the perspective of service providers and individual users. The study is based on the analysis of extensive empirical material collected through interviews and a collaborative workshop. The data was collected in one cultural context, Finland. The results suggest that the potential service providers and users have similar expectations regarding self-evidence of data while the main differences concern the expectations of transparency. The results of the study propose some basic requirements for the development of personalised data-driven services in future. The study suggests that basic requirements for the development of future data driven services concern expectations to usable data visualisations, data as a motivator, data accuracy and data transparency. Even though there are varying expectations to personal health data and even some concerns, it can be seen that here different ecosystem actors primarily perceived the wider use of personal health and wellness data as a positive trend. It can be concluded that collaborative personal data-driven service ecosystems are an integral part of development towards proactive service models in healthcare.Peer reviewe

    Species-specific restriction of cell surface expression of mouse MARCO glycoprotein in murine cell lines

    The MARCO (macrophage receptor with collagenous structure) glycoprotein belongs to the scavenger receptor type family of pat- tern-recognition molecules produced by a subset of marginal zone macrophages in the spleen. Stimulation with LPS leads to its appear- ance on macrophages located at other tissue compartments. In the present work, we report its in vitro expression by various cell lines using transient and stable (lentiviral) gene delivery aimed at investigating the signaling properties of this receptor and its analysis using a novel rat monoclonal antibody against the SRCR-domain of mouse MARCO. When trying to establish stable mouse MARCO-trans- fectants using lentiviral transduction and other methods, we consistently found that MARCO accumulated intracellularly in various murine host cells. In contrast, such a phenomenon was not observed in non-murine cell lines. Our observations indicate the presence of an unexpected limitation of the in vitro expression of mouse MARCO glycoprotein in murine cell lines. We believe that the failure to express MARCO on the cell surface of the many murine cell lines is likely due to the absence of endoplasmic reticulum molecular chaperones needed for the correct folding and assembly of the trimeric MARCO molecule

    Class A scavenger receptors regulate tolerance against apoptotic cells, and autoantibodies against these receptors are predictive of systemic lupus

    Apoptotic cells are considered to be a major source for autoantigens in autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). In agreement with this, defective clearance of apoptotic cells has been shown to increase disease susceptibility. Still, little is known about how apoptotic cell–derived self-antigens activate autoreactive B cells and where this takes place. In this study, we find that apoptotic cells are taken up by specific scavenger receptors expressed on macrophages in the splenic marginal zone and that mice deficient in these receptors have a lower threshold for autoantibody responses. Furthermore, antibodies against scavenger receptors are found before the onset of clinical symptoms in SLE-prone mice, and they are also found in diagnosed SLE patients. Our findings describe a novel mechanism where autoantibodies toward scavenger receptors can alter the response to apoptotic cells, affect tolerance, and thus promote disease progression. Because the autoantibodies can be detected before onset of disease in mice, they could have predictive value as early indicators of SLE

    New insights into the genetic etiology of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias

    Characterization of the genetic landscape of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related dementias (ADD) provides a unique opportunity for a better understanding of the associated pathophysiological processes. We performed a two-stage genome-wide association study totaling 111,326 clinically diagnosed/'proxy' AD cases and 677,663 controls. We found 75 risk loci, of which 42 were new at the time of analysis. Pathway enrichment analyses confirmed the involvement of amyloid/tau pathways and highlighted microglia implication. Gene prioritization in the new loci identified 31 genes that were suggestive of new genetically associated processes, including the tumor necrosis factor alpha pathway through the linear ubiquitin chain assembly complex. We also built a new genetic risk score associated with the risk of future AD/dementia or progression from mild cognitive impairment to AD/dementia. The improvement in prediction led to a 1.6- to 1.9-fold increase in AD risk from the lowest to the highest decile, in addition to effects of age and the APOE epsilon 4 allele. Meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies on Alzheimer's disease and related dementias identifies new loci and enables generation of a new genetic risk score associated with the risk of future Alzheimer's disease and dementia.Peer reviewe
