Analysis, Design and Implementation od System for Evaluation of Metal Materials Defectoscopy
Import 01/09/2009Diplomová práce řeší vytvoření SW díla pro měření a analýzu defektů v kovových nemagnetických materiálech pomocí metod nedestruktivního zkoušení, konkrétně pomocí metody vířivých proudů.
This dissertation is to describe development of software intended for defect analysis in nonmagnetic metal materials by using nondestructive testing methods – specifically the Eddy Current Method. This software is going to be specifically used for tubing defectoscopy in thermal and nuclear power plants. This work is done based on Tediko, s.r.o., Chomutov company request, who is major player in this business within Czech Republic.
The main goal of this project is to replace currently used SW product which is considered old fashioned with insufficient capability for current IT technology level. Original software is running under DOS operating system and it uses obsolete SW and HW resources with no support available. One of the key requirements was to utilize standard measurement configurations that Tediko, s.r.o., owns and currently uses on regular basis.
This new SW solution will also allow future functional enhancements by addition various HW and SW modules.Prezenční456 - Katedra informatikyvýborn

Ecosystem Services in Decision Making: Time to Deliver
Over the past decade, efforts to value and protect ecosystem services have been promoted by many as the last, best hope for making conservation mainstream – attractive and commonplace worldwide. In theory, if we can help individuals and institutions to recognize the value of nature, then this should greatly increase investments in conservation, while at the same time fostering human well-being. In practice, however, we have not yet developed the scientific basis, nor the policy and finance mechanisms, for incorporating natural capital into resource- and land-use decisions on a large scale. Here, we propose a conceptual framework and sketch out a strategic plan for delivering on the promise of ecosystem services, drawing on emerging examples from Hawai‘i. We describe key advances in the science and practice of accounting for natural capital in the decisions of individuals, communities, corporations, and governments

Cultural Revolution Narratives: Rethinking History through the Prism of Post-Mao Literature
Chinese educated youth, or zhiqing, who were sent to the countryside for re-education during the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution (1966-1976), began to re-frame their historical narratives of this tumultuous decade in the post-Mao period. This essay examines how two distinct genres of post-Mao literature, the Literature of the Wounded (shanghen wenxue) and Nostalgic Literature (huaijiu wenxue), reproduced an imaginary binary between individual memories of the Cultural Revolution and the officially-sanctioned history of this period, while a third genre of literature, the Narration of the Absurd (huangdan xushi), rejected a memory/history dichotomy. Instead of relying on a single narratorial voice, which silences the plurality of voices located in and out of the historical record, the Narration of the Absurd opened up radically new possibilities for narrating, in a non-linear fashion, a multiplicity of perspectives, memories, and uncertainties about the past
A molecular analysis to assess codling moth \u3ci\u3eCydia pomonella\u3c/i\u3e L. (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) predation by orchard birds
The codling moth Cydia pomonella L. (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) is a major economic pest in organic apple orchards. Observational methods, prey removal experiments and correlative experiments with exclosures or nest boxes have demonstrated that birds contribute to the removal of this insect pest. However, the majority of research conducted in the last several decades has taken place outside of the United States and methods for studying biological pest control have advanced dramatically and now include molecular techniques. We conducted a proof-of-concept study to test a DNA-based approach to detect C. pomonella prey in the diets of birds occupying organic apple orchards. We tested published Tortricidae primers, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequencing for detection of C. pomonella in avian feces. We also tested the quality of DNA isolated and purified from fecal samples using two DNA extraction kits. Finally, we field-tested this tool to identify the presence or absence of C. pomonella in the laboratory and from field samples. C. pomonella DNA was amplified in less than 1% of field samples and was successfully sequenced in 0.5%. A single species, the brown-headed cowbird Molothrus ater (Boddaert), had fecal samples positive for C. pomonella DNA. While our results do not provide evidence that birds play a strong role in the control of C. pomonella in western Colorado organic apple orchards, the approach we present is a new tool for understanding bird-mediated ecosystem services, avian feeding ecology, and supporting management decisions for sustainable agricultural practices and farmland biodiversity
Forest Restoration and Parasitoid Wasp Communities in Montane Hawai\u27i
Globally, most restoration efforts focus on re-creating the physical structure (flora or physical features) of a target ecosystem with the assumption that other ecosystem components will follow. Here we investigate that assumption by documenting biogeographical patterns in an important invertebrate taxon, the parasitoid wasp family Ichneumonidae, in a recently reforested Hawaiian landscape. Specifically, we test the influence of (1) planting configurations (corridors versus patches), (2) vegetation age, (3) distance from mature native forest, (4) surrounding tree cover, and (5) plant community composition on ichneumonid richness, abundance, and composition. We sampled over 7,000 wasps, 96.5% of which were not native to Hawai\u27i. We found greater relative richness and abundance of ichneumonids, and substantially different communities, in restored areas compared to mature forest and abandoned pasturelands. Non-native ichneumonids drive these differences; restored areas and native forest did not differ in native ichneumonid abundance. Among restored areas, ichneumonid communities did not differ by planting age or configuration. As tree cover increased within 120 m of a sampling point, ichneumonid community composition increasingly resembled that found in native forest. Similarly, native ichneumonid abundance increased with proximity to native forest. Our results suggest that restoration plantings, if situated near target forest ecosystems and in areas with higher local tree cover, can facilitate restoration of native fauna even in a highly invaded system. © 2013 Gould et al
