High-performance functional renormalization group calculations for interacting fermions
We derive a novel computational scheme for functional Renormalization Group
(fRG) calculations for interacting fermions on 2D lattices. The scheme is based
on the exchange parametrization fRG for the two-fermion interaction, with
additional insertions of truncated partitions of unity. These insertions
decouple the fermionic propagators from the exchange propagators and lead to a
separation of the underlying equations. We demonstrate that this separation is
numerically advantageous and may pave the way for refined, large-scale
computational investigations even in the case of complex multiband systems.
Furthermore, on the basis of speedup data gained from our implementation, it is
shown that this new variant facilitates efficient calculations on a large
number of multi-core CPUs. We apply the scheme to the , Hubbard model on
a square lattice to analyze the convergence of the results with the bond length
of the truncation of the partition of unity. In most parameter areas, a fast
convergence can be observed. Finally, we compare to previous results in order
to relate our approach to other fRG studies.Comment: 26 pages, 9 figure
Exploring the use of dynamic language assessment with deaf children, who use American Sign Language: Two case studies
We describe a model for assessment of lexical-semantic organization skills in American Sign Language (ASL) within the framework of dynamic vocabulary assessment and discuss the applicability and validity of the use of mediated learning experiences (MLE) with deaf signing children. Two elementary students (ages 7;6 and 8;4) completed a set of four vocabulary tasks and received two 30-minute mediations in ASL. Each session consisted of several scripted activities focusing on the use of categorization. Both had experienced difficulties in providing categorically related responses in one of the vocabulary tasks used previously. Results showed that the two students exhibited notable differences with regards to their learning pace, information uptake, and effort required by the mediator. Furthermore, we observed signs of a shift in strategic behavior by the lower performing student during the second mediation. Results suggest that the use of dynamic assessment procedures in a vocabulary context was helpful in understanding children's strategies as related to learning potential. These results are discussed in terms of deaf children's cognitive modifiability with implications for planning instruction and how MLE can be used with a population that uses ASL
Segal-Bargmann-Fock modules of monogenic functions
In this paper we introduce the classical Segal-Bargmann transform starting
from the basis of Hermite polynomials and extend it to Clifford algebra-valued
functions. Then we apply the results to monogenic functions and prove that the
Segal-Bargmann kernel corresponds to the kernel of the Fourier-Borel transform
for monogenic functionals. This kernel is also the reproducing kernel for the
monogenic Bargmann module.Comment: 11 page
Spectroscopy and near-infrared to visible upconversion of er3+ ions in aluminosilicate glasses manufactured with controlled optical transmission
In this work we report on the spectroscopic properties and the near-infrared to visible upconversion of Er3+ ions in aluminosilicate glasses manufactured by directionally solidification with the laser floating zone technique. Glasses were manufactured in a controlled oxidizing atmosphere to provide them with high optical transmission in the visible spectral range. Absorption and emission spectra, and lifetimes were assessed in both the visible and the near infrared spectral range. Green upconversion emissions of the2H11/2¿4I15/2 and4S3/2¿4I15/2 transitions at 525 nm and 550 nm attributed to a two-photon process were observed under excitation at 800 nm. Mechanisms responsible for the upconversion luminescence were discussed in terms of excited state absorption and energy transfer upconversion processes. Excitation spectra of the upconverted emission suggest that energy transfer upconversion processes are responsible for the green upconversion luminescence

"No-Scalar-Hair" Theorems for Nonminimally Coupled Fields with Quartic Self-Interaction
Self-gravitating scalar fields with nonminimal coupling to gravity and having
a quartic self-interaction are considered in the domain of outer communications
of a static black hole. It is shown that there is no value of the nonminimal
coupling parameter for which nontrivial static black hole solutions
exist. This result establishes the correctness of Bekenstein ``no-scalar-hair''

Entropy of the Nordic electricity market: anomalous scaling, spikes, and mean-reversion
The electricity market is a very peculiar market due to the large variety of
phenomena that can affect the spot price. However, this market still shows many
typical features of other speculative (commodity) markets like, for instance,
data clustering and mean reversion. We apply the diffusion entropy analysis
(DEA) to the Nordic spot electricity market (Nord Pool). We study the waiting
time statistics between consecutive spot price spikes and find it to show
anomalous scaling characterized by a decaying power-law. The exponent observed
in data follows a quite robust relationship with the one implied by the DEA
analysis. We also in terms of the DEA revisit topics like clustering,
mean-reversion and periodicities. We finally propose a GARCH inspired model but
for the price itself. Models in the context of stochastic volatility processes
appear under this scope to have a feasible description.Comment: 16 pages, 7 figure
Dressing a black hole with non-minimally coupled scalar field hair
We investigate the possibility of dressing a four-dimensional black hole with
classical scalar field hair which is non-minimally coupled to the space-time
curvature. Our model includes a cosmological constant but no self-interaction
potential for the scalar field. We are able to rule out black hole hair except
when the cosmological constant is negative and the constant governing the
coupling to the Ricci scalar curvature is positive. In this case, non-trivial
hairy black hole solutions exist, at least some of which are linearly stable.
However, when the coupling constant becomes too large, the black hole hair
