    The objectives of this study are:1) To describe the quality of When English Rings a Bell textbook according to Cunningsworth’s good criteria of English textbook; 2) To describe the teacher’s views concerning the quality of When English Rings a Bell used at SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Surakarta; and 3) To describe the student’s views concerning the quality of when English Rings a Bell Used at SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Surakarta. In connducting this research, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative type. The in-depth textbook analysis shows that all chapters in When English Rings a Bell fulfills criteria from Cunningsworth’s standard requirement. The textbook was suitable enough to be used for media in teaching learning process for the seventh grade student of Junior High School. In the teacher’s view, the textbook is appropriate with the learning objectives. The teacher’s statement is in line with the Cunningsworth’s theory that a good textbook should correspond to the learner’s needs. In using When English Rings a Bell, the students still get some difficulties. First, they still need the teacher’s guidance in comprehending the materials. Secondly, they need other supporting materials from other sources to improve their comprehension. The textbook was also lack of examples. Based on the students’ interview results, the weakness of this textbook might be lack of theories. Some students stated that the textbook has a small scope. They agreed that the given materials to use in the classroom have to be varied. From the research findings, it can be concluded that When English Rings a Bell textbook can be recommended as learning source for junior high school students as it fulfill the Cunningsworth criteria of good textbook.     Role of endothelial permeability hotspots and endothelial mitosis in determining age-related patterns of macromolecule uptake by the rabbit aortic wall near branch points

    AbstractBackground and aimsTransport of macromolecules between plasma and the arterial wall plays a key role in atherogenesis. Scattered hotspots of elevated endothelial permeability to macromolecules occur in the aorta; a fraction of them are associated with dividing cells. Hotspots occur particularly frequently downstream of branch points, where lesions develop in young rabbits and children. However, the pattern of lesions varies with age, and can be explained by similar variation in the pattern of macromolecule uptake. We investigated whether patterns of hotspots and mitosis also change with age.MethodsEvans’ Blue dye-labeled albumin was injected intravenously into immature or mature rabbits and its subsequent distribution in the aortic wall around intercostal branch ostia examined by confocal microscopy and automated image analysis. Mitosis was detected by immunofluorescence after adding 5-bromo-2-deoxiuridine to drinking water.ResultsHotspots were most frequent downstream of branches in immature rabbits, but a novel distribution was observed in mature rabbits. Neither pattern was explained by mitosis. Hotspot uptake correlated spatially with the much greater non-hotspot uptake (p < 0.05), and the same pattern was seen when only the largest hotspots were considered.ConclusionsThe pattern of hotspots changes with age. The data are consistent with there being a continuum of local permeabilities rather than two distinct mechanisms. The distribution of the dye, which binds to elastin and collagen, was similar to that of non-binding tracers and to lesions apart from a paucity at the lateral margins of branches that can be explained by lower levels of fibrous proteins in those regions

    Contextual Query Using Bell Tests

    Tests are essential in Information Retrieval and Data Mining in order to evaluate the effectiveness of a query. An automatic measure tool intended to exhibit the meaning of words in context has been developed and linked with Quantum Theory, particularly entanglement. "Quantum like" experiments were undertaken on semantic space based on the Hyperspace Analogue Language (HAL) method. A quantum HAL model was implemented using state vectors issued from the HAL matrix and query observables, testing a wide range of windows sizes. The Bell parameter S, associating measures on two words in a document, was derived showing peaks for specific window sizes. The peaks show maximum quantum violation of the Bell inequalities and are document dependent. This new correlation measure inspired by Quantum Theory could be promising for measuring query relevance.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figure

    Investigating non-classical correlations between decision fused multi-modal documents

    Correlation has been widely used to facilitate various information retrieval methods such as query expansion, relevance feedback, document clustering, and multi-modal fusion. Especially, correlation and independence are important issues when fusing different modalities that influence a multi-modal information retrieval process. The basic idea of correlation is that an observable can help predict or enhance another observable. In quantum mechanics, quantum correlation, called entanglement, is a sort of correlation between the observables measured in atomic-size particles when these particles are not necessarily collected in ensembles. In this paper, we examine a multimodal fusion scenario that might be similar to that encountered in physics by firstly measuring two observables (i.e., text-based relevance and image-based relevance) of a multi-modal document without counting on an ensemble of multi-modal documents already labeled in terms of these two variables. Then, we investigate the existence of non-classical correlations between pairs of multi-modal documents. Despite there are some basic differences between entanglement and classical correlation encountered in the macroscopic world, we investigate the existence of this kind of non-classical correlation through the Bell inequality violation. Here, we experimentally test several novel association methods in a small-scale experiment. However, in the current experiment we did not find any violation of the Bell inequality. Finally, we present a series of interesting discussions, which may provide theoretical and empirical insights and inspirations for future development of this direction

    Evolutionary relationships and systematics of Atoposauridae (Crocodylomorpha: Neosuchia): implications for the rise of Eusuchia

    Atoposaurids are a group of small-bodied, extinct crocodyliforms, regarded as an important component of Jurassic and Cretaceous Laurasian semi-aquatic ecosystems. Despite the group being known for over 150 years, the taxonomic composition of Atoposauridae and its position within Crocodyliformes are unresolved. Uncertainty revolves around their placement within Neosuchia, in which they have been found to occupy a range of positions from the most basal neosuchian clade to more crownward eusuchians. This problem stems from a lack of adequate taxonomic treatment of specimens assigned to Atoposauridae, and key taxa such as Theriosuchus have become taxonomic ‘waste baskets’. Here, we incorporate all putative atoposaurid species into a new phylogenetic data matrix comprising 24 taxa scored for 329 characters. Many of our characters are heavily revised or novel to this study, and several ingroup taxa have never previously been included in a phylogenetic analysis. Parsimony and Bayesian approaches both recover Atoposauridae as a basal clade within Neosuchia, more stemward than coelognathosuchians, bernissartiids, and paralligatorids. Atoposauridae is a much more exclusive clade than previously recognized, comprising just three genera (Alligatorellus, Alligatorium, and Atoposaurus) that were restricted to the Late Jurassic of western Europe, and went extinct at the Jurassic/Cretaceous boundary. A putative Gondwanan atoposaurid (Brillanceausuchus) is recovered as a paralligatorid. Our results exclude both Montsecosuchus and Theriosuchus from Atoposauridae. Theriosuchus is polyphyletic, forming two groupings of advanced neosuchians. Theriosuchus (restricted to Theriosuchus pusillus, Theriosuchus guimarotae, and Theriosuchus grandinaris) spanned the Middle Jurassic to early Late Cretaceous, and is known from Eurasia and North Africa. Two Cretaceous species previously assigned to Theriosuchus (‘Theriosuchus’ ibericus and ‘Theriosuchus’ sympiestodon) are shown to be nested within Paralligatoridae, and we assign them to the new genus Sabresuchus. The revised phylogenetic placement of Theriosuchus has several implications for our understanding of eusuchian evolution. Firstly, the presence of fully pterygoidean choanae, previously regarded as a defining characteristic of Eusuchia, is not found in some basal members of Eusuchia. However, eusuchians can be distinguished from Theriosuchus and other basal neosuchians in that their choanae are posteriorly positioned, with an anterior margin medial to the posterior edge of the suborbital fenestra. This feature distinguishes eusuchians from Theriosuchus and more basal neosuchians. Secondly, our refined understanding of Theriosuchus implies that this taxon possessed only amphicoelous presacral vertebrae, and therefore fully developed vertebral procoely is likely to have evolved only once in Crocodylomorpha, on the lineage leading to Eusuchia. These and other findings presented herein will provide an important framework for understanding the neosuchian–eusuchian transition

    Climate constrains the evolutionary history and biodiversity of crocodylians

    The fossil record of crocodylians and their relatives (pseudosuchians) reveals a rich evolutionary history, prompting questions about causes of long-term decline to their present-day low biodiversity. We analyse climatic drivers of subsampled pseudosuchian biodiversity over their 250 million year history, using a comprehensive new data set. Biodiversity and environmental changes correlate strongly, with long-term decline of terrestrial taxa driven by decreasing temperatures in northern temperate regions, and biodiversity decreases at lower latitudes matching patterns of increasing aridification. However, there is no relationship between temperature and biodiversity for marine pseudosuchians, with sea-level change and post-extinction opportunism demonstrated to be more important drivers. A ‘modern-type' latitudinal biodiversity gradient might have existed throughout pseudosuchian history, and range expansion towards the poles occurred during warm intervals. Although their fossil record suggests that current global warming might promote long-term increases in crocodylian biodiversity and geographic range, the 'balancing forces' of anthropogenic environmental degradation complicate future predictions

    This research aims to describe the implementation of the Hello English application as English learning media used by English teachers in teaching speaking skills in class, identifying the responses given by students to Hello English application that the teacher applied as English learning media to teach speaking skill, and describe the advantages and disadvantages of the Hello English application as learning media to teach speaking skillfrom the perspective of teacher and students. The method used in this research is qualitative description research, techniques in data collection through observation, interview and documentation. Thisresearch uses a theory from Hymes (1970) as a reference in finding and analyzing the implementation of Hello English application as English learning media to teach speaking skill.The subjects of this research were teacher and students. Based on data analysis, the results of this study indicate that in applying the material, the teacher divides the learning process by three parts such as pre-teaching, while teaching includes observing the step; question and answer step; gathering information or trial step; step of association or information processing; the communication step, and post-teaching. The students responses toward theimplementation the method that teacher used is good and positively, because during the teaching learning process, the students can enjoy and understand fluently

    Co-creating solutions to local mobility and transport challenges for the enhancement of health and wellbeing in an area of socioeconomic disadvantage

    Introduction: The paper describes and examines a novel methodology to co-define transport and mobility challenges and co-create solutions with residents of a socioeconomically disadvantaged area within Oxford in the UK. The co-creation methodology is examined in relation to the extent of participation, inclusivity, transparency, interactivity, scale, sustainability/continuity, replicability, potential for co-benefits. Methods: A Citizen Mobility Community was established with local residents at the core, and including representatives from the local authority, and other stakeholders. The paper describes the main elements of the co-creation process applied to identify mobility challenges, identify solutions, endorse the mobility solutions, and develop the solutions into practical action. Setting: The setting was the Eastern Arc of Oxford, the most socioeconomically deprived area in Oxford. Results: A sequence of co-creation activities helped identify and understand the transport challenges in Barton in the Eastern Arc of Oxford. Challenges included the high cost of public transport, traffic congestion, particularly during morning peak times, and the lack of cross-connectivity and direct public transport routes to desirable locations including affordable supermarkets, train stations, workplaces, health services such as hospitals and other neighbourhoods. The co-creation methodology led to the development of three pilot interventions to address these challenges, namely face-to-face transport app training, a transport to supermarkets shuttle service, and an information campaign about concessionary bus passes. Analysis of the co-creation methodology found that the process achieved its aims of empowering citizens in decision making about addressing locally experienced transport challenges, and building social capital. Conclusions: The co-creation enables communities in areas of socioeconomic disadvantage to identify their transport challenges, and to co-develop and co-design practical solutions. Co-creation to address local transport needs builds community empowerment, creates social capital and may contribute, through plausible causal pathways, to improved health and wellbeing in an area of socioeconomic disadvantage
