    Spiders from Macaronesia: Cabo Verde.

    ABSTRACT: The data presented in this study were obtained from samples collected as part of the project "Macaronesian Islands as a testing ground to assess biodiversity drivers at multiple scales" (FCT - MACDIV) (2015-2018). This project aimed at gaining insights into the factors influencing community assembly in Macaronesian islands. To assess spider diversity, we employed the COBRA (Conservation Oriented Biodiversity Rapid Assessment) sampling protocol. Our sampling efforts were conducted in ten 50 m x 50 m dry shrub plots located on the Cabo Verde Islands of Santo Antão (comprising five plots) and São Vicente (comprising five plots). Additional ad-hoc samples are also available.     Evaluación de técnicas de reducción del efecto de los armónicos producidos por variadores de frecuencia de seis pulsos

    Ingeniería EléctricaLos problemas de calidad de la potencia suelen generar distorsión en las variables de tensión y corriente que alimentan un equipo y/o proceso. Dentro de los problemas de calidad de la potencia se destacan las distorsiones armónicas causadas típicamente por equipos de accionamiento y control de procesos, los cuales debido a su alto contenido de elementos de electrónica de potencia y cargas no lineales asociadas al proceso generan distorsiones, esto incluye las tecnologías de variadores de velocidad. La presencia de armónicos suele ocasionar calentamiento y aumento de pérdidas en los transformadores, motores, pérdidas de sincronismo del reloj en las tarjetas electrónicas, problemas por corrientes de fuga, corrientes de modo común, corriente reflejada, incremento en la resistividad de los conductores, aumento de la corriente Total RMS, entre otros. La presente investigación propone evaluar las técnicas de reducción del efecto de los armónicos producidos por los variadores de frecuencia de seis pulsos utilizando la herramienta SIMULINK de MATLAB para la caracterización de las componentes armónicas generadas por variadores de frecuencia tanto de seis como de doce pulsos. Se consideran la revisión de técnicas para la reducción de los efectos armónicos considerando lo contemplado en IEEE std 519 de 2014 y los documentos normativos nacionales tales como la CREG 070 de 1998 y las normas técnicas colombianas NTC 5000, NTC 5001. Como caso de prueba se realizan simulaciones de variadores de frecuencia de seis pulsos y se analizan las técnicas para la reducción de los efectos de los armónicos generados por los variadores de frecuencia utilizando SIMULINK (MATLAB), logrando identificar la mejor opción técnica-económica para la reducción de los efectos de los armónicos generados por los variadores de frecuencia mediante el caso de estudio considerado.Power quality problems usually generate distortion in voltage and current variables affecting equipment and/or process. Power quality problems include harmonic distortions commonly caused by drivers and process control equipment, which due to their high content of power electronics elements and non-linear loads associated to the process generate distortions, such as Variable speed drive technologies. The presence of harmonics tends to cause heating and increased losses in power transformers, motors, losses of clock synchronism in electronic cards, problems with leakage currents, presence of common mode currents, reflected current, increased resistivity of conductors, increased of total RMS current, among others. This research proposes to evaluate the techniques for reducing the effect of harmonics produced by six-pulse frequency converters using MATLAB's SIMULINK tool for the characterization of harmonic components generated by both six-pulse and twelve-pulse frequency converters. It is considered the revision of techniques for the reduction of harmonic effects considering what is contemplated in IEEE std 519 of 2014 and the national normative documents such as CREG 070 of 1998 and the Colombian technical standards NTC 5000, NTC 5001. As a test case, simulations of six pulse frequency variators are performed and the techniques for the reduction of the effects of harmonics generated by the frequency variators are analyzed using SIMULINK (MATLAB), identifying the best technical-economic option for the reduction of the effects of harmonics generated by the frequency variators through the case study considered

    Esta tesis doctoral se centra en la aplicación de membranas de intercambio iónico para la cristalización de proteínas y la derivatización de cristales de proteínas. El trabajo experimental se divide en tres partes. La primera parte del trabajo se centra en la comprensión del efecto de la topografía en la nucleación. La softlitografía se utilizó para modificar la topografía superficial de las membranas Nafion® con diseños específicos, evitando así cambios en la química de la superficie que pueden enmascarar el efecto de la topografía en la nucleación. Las membranas impresas se caracterizaron por microscopia de fuerza atómica (AFM), microscopia electrónica de barrido (SEM) y ángulos de contacto, y se analizó la cristalización de tripsina de páncreas bovino. La nucleación y el crecimiento de los cristales se controlaron a lo largo del tiempo mediante el uso de microscopía óptica. Los resultados experimentales se compararon con los cálculos teóricos del ratio de la variación de la energía libre de Gibbs de nucleación heterogénea y homogénea. La segunda parte del trabajo se centró en una soft-derivatizaciónde cristales de proteínas utilizando membranas de intercambio iónico. Nafion® y Neosepta 01 se seleccionaron entre varias membranas por su capacidad de facilitar la nucleación. La cinética del transporte de iones para Br-, (PtCl2-) 4 y Hg2+ se evaluó para modelar el transporte en la celda de derivatización. La estabilidad de los cristales derivatizados por membranas de intercambio iónico a lo largo del tiempo fue comparada con la estabilidad de los cristales derivatizados por el método convencional de inmersión. Los cristales derivatizados con las membranas de intercambio iónico se analizaron mediante sincrotrón y la estructura de la proteína se resolvió con la técnica de reemplazo isomorfo. La tercera parte del trabajo consistió en la integración del concepto de derivatización con membranas de intercambio iónico en un microdispositivo de polidimetilsiloxano (PDMS). El microdispositivo se diseñó y construyó mediante las técnicas de fotolitografía y soft-lithography. La unión de la membrana al PDMS se realizó mediante grafting. Se realizaron la modelización del transporte de agua, NaCl y Hg2+ en el microdispositivo,los experimentos de cristalización donde la sobresaturación se conseguió mediante ósmosis, y la evaluación de la calidad de difracción de los cristales se realizó.<br /

    Evaluation of the lacrimal recess of the maxillary sinus: an anatomical study

    The anatomical relation between the maxillary sinus and the nasolacrimal duct has gained greater importance with the advent of microsurgeries and endoscopic-assisted sinonasal procedures, and the growing use of endonasal surgery to perform middle meatus procedures and transnasal dacryocystorhinostomy. We did not find reports on maxillary sinus classification concerning its lacrimal recess, nor how often it is found. OBJECTIVE: To assess how frequent the lacrimal recess can be found in the maxillary sinuses of dissected anatomical specimens. METHOD: We assessed 31 half-heads from cadavers. We dissected the area corresponding to the middle third of the face, by lateral access so as to be able to observe the most lateral portion of the nasolacrimal duct vis-à-vis the maxillary sinus.The maxillary sinuses were assessed by two examiners simultaneously, getting to a consensus in relation to the type of nasolacrimal duct. RESULTS: We assessed 18 maxillary sinuses of the lateral type (58.1%) and 13 anterior sinuses (41.9%). The difference in frequency of the anterior type of maxillary type of the right side (35.7%) and left (47.1%) did not have statistical significance (p = 0.524). CONCLUSION: We found a frequency of 41.9% of lacrimal recesses in the maxillary sinuses.Arelação anatômica entre seio maxilar e ducto lacrimonasal adquiriu maior importância com o advento das microcirugias e cirurgias nasossinusais assistidas por endoscopia e pelo crescente uso da endoscopia nasal na realização das meatotomias médias e dacriocistorrinostomiastransnasais. Não foram encontrados relatos de classificação do seio maxilar quanto ao seu recesso lacrimal, tampouco sua frequência. OBJETIVO: Avaliar a frequência do recesso lacrimal do seio maxilar em peças anatômicas dissecadas. MÉTODO: Foram avaliadas 31 partes de hemicabeças de cadáveres. Procedeu-se à dissecção da área correspondente ao terço médio da face, por acesso lateral, para que se pudesse observar a posição da porção mais lateral do ducto lacrimonasal em relação ao seio maxilar. Os seios maxilares foram avaliados, por dois examinadores simultaneamente, chegando ao consenso do tipo de ducto lacrimonasal. RESULTADOS: Foram encontrados 18 seios maxilares do tipo lateral (58,1%) e 13 do tipo anterior (41,9%). A diferença entre a frequência de seios maxilares do tipo anterior nos lados direito (35,7%) e esquerdo (47,1%) não mostrou significância estatística (p = 0,524). CONCLUSÃO: Observou-se frequência de 41,9% de recessos lacrimais nos seios maxilares.353
