XML Signature Wrapping Still Considered Harmful: A Case Study on the Personal Health Record in Germany
XML Signature Wrapping (XSW) has been a relevant threat to web services for
15 years until today. Using the Personal Health Record (PHR), which is
currently under development in Germany, we investigate a current SOAP-based web
services system as a case study. In doing so, we highlight several deficiencies
in defending against XSW. Using this real-world contemporary example as
motivation, we introduce a guideline for more secure XML signature processing
that provides practitioners with easier access to the effective countermeasures
identified in the current state of research.Comment: Accepted for IFIP SEC 202
Relative spins and excitation energies of superdeformed bands in 190Hg: Further evidence for octupole vibration
An experiment using the Eurogam Phase II gamma-ray spectrometer confirms the
existence of an excited superdeformed (SD) band in 190Hg and its very unusual
decay into the lowest SD band over 3-4 transitions. The energies and dipole
character of the transitions linking the two SD bands have been firmly
established. Comparisons with RPA calculations indicate that the excited SD
band can be interpreted as an octupole-vibrational structure.Comment: 12 pages, latex, 4 figures available via WWW at

Genetic determinants of complement activation in the general population
Complement is a fundamental innate immune response component. Its alterations are associated with severe systemic diseases. To illuminate the complement's genetic underpinnings, we conduct genome-wide association studies of the functional activity of the classical (CP), lectin (LP), and alternative (AP) complement pathways in the Cooperative Health Research in South Tyrol study (n = 4,990). We identify seven loci, encompassing 13 independent, pathway-specific variants located in or near complement genes (CFHR4, C7, C2, MBL2) and non-complement genes (PDE3A, TNXB, ABO), explaining up to 74% of complement pathways' genetic heritability and implicating long-range haplotypes associated with LP at MBL2. Two-sample Mendelian randomization analyses, supported by transcriptome- and proteome-wide colocalization, confirm known causal pathways, establish within-complement feedback loops, and implicate causality of ABO on LP and of CFHR2 and C7 on AP. LP causally influences collectin-11 and KAAG1 levels and the risk of mouth ulcers. These results build a comprehensive resource to investigate the role of complement in human health
A Tropical Marine Microbial Natural Products Geobibliography as an Example of Desktop Exploration of Current Research Using Web Visualisation Tools
Microbial marine biodiscovery is a recent scientific endeavour developing at a time when information and other technologies are also undergoing great technical strides. Global visualisation of datasets is now becoming available to the world through powerful and readily available software such as Worldwindâą, ArcGIS Explorerâą and Google Earthâą. Overlaying custom information upon these tools is within the hands of every scientist and more and more scientific organisations are making data available that can also be integrated into these global visualisation tools. The integrated global view that these tools enable provides a powerful desktop exploration tool. Here we demonstrate the value of this approach to marine microbial biodiscovery by developing a geobibliography that incorporates citations on tropical and near-tropical marine microbial natural products research with Google Earthâą and additional ancillary global data sets. The tools and software used are all readily available and the reader is able to use and install the material described in this article
Managing Kant Crises.. Sprachkunst. BeitrÀge zur Literaturwissenschaft|Sprachkunst XLIX / 2018, 2. Halbband|
