Kyiv Theological Academy Professors at the Beginning of the 20th Century: At the Intersection of Cultures

    Get PDF
This article attempts to reveal intercultural connections at the Kyiv Theological Academy at the beginning of the 20th century by reconstructing the spiritual biographies of two theological academy professors: Archimandrite (later, Archbishop of Berlin and Germany) Tykhon (Tymofii Liashchenko) and Petro Kudriavtsev. The article demonstrates how different cultural traditions intersected and combined in the spiritual experience of these figures. The author of the article argues that, as a result of revolutionary events in 1917–1919, both Kyiv Theological Academy professors experienced transformations in personal cultural identity, and their spiritual biographies reveal a transition from Russian to Western European and a combination of both (Tykhon (Liashchenko) identities), and from Russian to Ukrainian ideological cultural orientation (Petro Kudriavtsev)

    Least Error Sample Distribution Function

Email: The empirical distribution function (ecdf) is unbiased in the usual sense, but shows certain order bias. Pyke suggested discrete ecdf using expectations of order statistics. Piecewise constant optimal ecdf saves 200%/N of sample size N. Results are compared with linear interpolation for U(0, 1), which require up to sixfold shorter samples at the same accuracy

The article focuses on the interpretation of the features of the journalistic style of R. Menasse – the world famous Austrian writer, the discoverer of the European Union asa subject of aesthetic comprehension in world literature, who sharply raised a number of problematic issues of the political reality of the coexistence of European states. These include such as the ratio of the concepts of national interest, national power, nationalism; the possibility of the existence of democracy at the supranational level; the relationship between the elite and democracy; the national bureaucracy and the administrative apparatus of the EU and others, which are practically not affected so far in literary journalism. The concept of the article proceeds from the idea of Menasse’s mentality as a European writer as Europeanist, rooting in the minds of contemporary readers the realities of a new, supranational thinking. In undertaking a revision of the prevailing stereotypes of the EU as a restrictive and bureaucratic institution, Menasse draws on his own research undertaken to create an independent view of the EU’s activities. The writer’s vivid impressions are combined with reflections on the history of European countries and reliable judgments about the practical functioning of the EU. The engaged narrator Menasse sets out his objective concept of an intellectual and an independent thinker, relying on the evidence-based logic of facts and figures, which nowhere become an end in themselves, but illustrate a consistent and rigorous argumentation. The narrator-educator Menasse is characterized by completeness of formulations, frankness of position, honest attitude towards the reader. Thanks to the stylistic skill of the author, the essay develops into an analytical and journalistic compendium in which political objectivism and the power of persuasion dominate. At the moment, society in our country is undergoing a process of transition from the industrial era to the information, socio-economic changes are taking place, and these are all leading to major transformations in some vital areas of government activity. Looking at the world experience, people in our country have noticed that many processes take place in other countries faster and easier. This in turn also applies to educational processes. Many world systems have long and successfully integrated the methods of distance education, developing different methods of distance learning. Even at the beginning of the last decade, such terms as distance, correspondence, or open study were virtually indistinguishable from the point of view of Ukrainians. The distance learning system received a strong impetus for development in the late nineties along with the high speed of information technology improvement. The very essence of such a system challenges the problem, always facing the educational environment: ―How to ensure the right of every citizen to education and free access to information?‖ After all, the essence of distance learning is to give all people an opportunity to gain their education using information and communication technologies. In addition to solving problems related to accessibility of education for the citizen, distance learning can address other important issues. It can also be added to the above that distance learning is good in that it can be implemented at any level of education, involving people who already have a higher education and want to increase its level, and help people who are unable to study at a university with classical forms of education due to lack of physical capacity or through professional employment

This paper describes the steps of designing and development of the Web Application for Information Dashboard Design. The primary challenge is not only to visualize the data on the charts, but also to increase the usability of the final product and to allow programmers to add new widgets quickly and with minimum input required. Visualization tools are being analyzed both from the historical and modern perspectives. Big attention is paid to how human brain perceives information. Charts development tools (in particular, JavaScript libraries) are analyzed and the need in a new application is proven. Development is then described as an iterative process, including application prototype designing and several phases of usability testing and evaluation. As a part of the project, the open-source Vue.js extension for working with charts is developed. Resulting application satisfies all initial requirements and allows to create a new dashboard based on custom design, or using one of the predefined templates.

Industrial R&D on Innovative Surface Treatments for an Ecological Descaling of “Acciaierie Valbruna” Stainless Steel Wire Rods in Replacement of the Traditional Acid Etching

    Get PDF
This work deals with an industrial research on ecological innovative descaling treatments for stainless steels, in substitution of the acid etching process: from the study and the research on samples, the most efficient techniques and their application to industrial purpose are explained. The research has basically covered the study of two pre-finishing treatments (high pressure water blasting and “dry ice”-blasting) and two etching treatments (electropolishing with ionic liquids and in aqueous media). In the field of stainless steels, the surface oxide of iron Fe (III) is combined with the multiple elements added to alloys in order to increase their characteristics (carbon, chromium, nickel and other). Moreover, the surface oxide is presented as a layer very tenacious and compact. In addition, heat treatment leads to the formation of a layer without chromium more readily attacked by oxygen from the atmosphere. Surface treatments are required to remove the surface oxide and recover the chromium layer. The chemical pickling, that is one of the most common etching processes, depends on many factors, such as the size of the pieces, the type of plant, the type of alloy et al. In general, the traditional solutions contain from 10% to 20% by weight of nitric acid, and 1% to 5% by weight of hydrofluoric acid. The oxidizing environment is provided by nitric acid, which effectively removes the oxide surface, and is subsequently used without the hydrofluoric acid to restore the passive layer (passivation). From the environmental point of view, however, the use of this reagent is very costly: • Air pollution: the formation of nitrogen oxides (NOx) during the process causes fumes and vapours. These gases are harmful to health, highly polluting (production of acid rain) and extremely aggressive towards metals. • Water pollution: the high concentration of nitrates and nitrites is one of the causes of eutrophication. In particular, nitrites may form carcinogenic compounds such as nitrosamines, which can enter the food chain through fish. • Health and safety: hydrofluoric acid is highly corrosive and a poison. It should be handled with extreme attention, using protective equipment and safety precautions. Once absorbed into the blood through the skin, it reacts with blood calcium and may cause cardiac arrest. In addition, it combines with calcium and magnesium of the bones. Since its action can be delayed for many hours, it can distribute throughout the body, causing the erosion of bones. These features have shown how the study of alternative "green" treatments is crucial

In radiometric systems, due to the general "ground" of the p-i-n-modulator of the reference channel and input waveguide microwave tract, there is a parasitic signal that doesn’t allow to fully realize the available fluctuation sensitivity of the radiometer. This is especially affect in multichannel radiometers, as well as in cryogenic ones, where transitions to the Josephson effect are used as an active element. The main reason for this is the emergence of many "ground" circuits, some of which can be sequentially connected to the signal loop, in these systems, it’s impossible to prevent long wires, as well as interconnecting cable
