Total Cost of Ownership of melting furnaces: application of a prototypal model to aluminum die casting producers

    Get PDF
After reviewing current literature on the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) methodology and its application to manufacturing contexts, we propose an application of this methodology to secondary aluminum melting furnaces. A prototypal calculation model is created and tested through three case studies of aluminum die casting companies. We illustrate the model structure and input data used to calculate the studied furnaces TCO. At last, results of the model test are presented and possible developments of the prototypal model are briefly discussed

A Geometric Environment for Building up Loops

    Get PDF
We start from the embedding of the Klein model of a hyperbolic plane H over a Euclidean field K in its direct motion group G := PSL_2 (K) and of both in PG(3, K). We present a geometric procedure to obtain loops which are related to suitable regular subsets of direct motions as transversals of the coset space G/D, where D is the subgroup of hyperbolic rotations fixing a given point o ∈ H. We investigate some properties of such loops and we determine their automorphism groups

Characterising Clifford parallelisms among Clifford-like parallelisms

    Get PDF
We recall the notions of Clifford and Clifford-like parallelisms in a 33-dimensional projective double space. In a previous paper the authors proved that the linear part of the full automorphism group of a Clifford parallelism is the same for all Clifford-like parallelisms which can be associated to it. In this paper, instead, we study the action of such group on parallel classes thus achieving our main results on characterisation of the Clifford parallelisms among Clifford-like ones.Comment: 2 Figure

An integrated approach in a case of facioscapulohumeral dystrophy

    Get PDF
BACKGROUND: Muscle fatigue, weakness and atrophy are basilar clinical features that accompany facioscapulohumeral dystrophy (FSHD) the third most common muscular dystrophy. No therapy is available for FSHD. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe the effects of 6mo exercise therapy and nutritional supplementation in a 43-year-old woman severely affected by FSHD. CONCLUSION: A mixed exercise program combined with nutritional supplementation can be safely used with beneficial effects in selected patients with FSHD

Translation structures with a principal line

    Get PDF
EnHere we study affine parallel translation structures, both finite and infinite, with a principal line, that is a line which intersects every line not in its parallel class. These structures can be regarded also as (finite or infinite) translation transversal divisible designs. An algebraic characterization of these structures in terms of semidirect product of groups is provided and the main properties related to their group of automorphisms are inspected. The particular case of kinematic spaces is also taken into consideration

    Regular parallelisms in kinematic spaces

    Get PDF
Here we propose a definition of regular parallelism in a linear space not necessarily embedded onto a projective space and we investigate its properties in the particular case of kinematic spaces. We prove that the kinematic parallelisms are always regular in that sense and we deduce some results on the group of translations acting transitively on the pointset
