    EFFECT OF ACTIVE VS. PASSIVE END-RANGE DETERMINATION ON SHOULDER AXIAL ROTATION IN THROWER ATHLETES

    The effect of active or passive end-range determination on shoulder axial rotation is unclear on overhead-throwing athletes. Twenty-two healthy males were equally divided into athletes and non-athletes groups and their throwing arm was tested during internal and external arm rotation and on active and passive end-range determination conditions. The humeral and scapular 3D position were recorded at the shoulder rotational endrange and compared across groups using two-way repeated-measures ANOVA. No differences were found between groups for all humeral and scapular variables. The active internal Thoracohumeral (TH) and Glenohumeral (GH) arches were significantly (p=0.00) higher than internal passive TH and GH. At the end-range of external rotation athletes showed a scapula less in protraction (p=0.027) and less in scapular posterior tilt (p=0.00).     Plant / Controller Optimization with applications to Integrated Surface Sizing and Feedback Controller Design for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs)

    This paper describes a solution to the following plant controller optimization (PCO) problem: given an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) - with a fixed baseline body configuration - that is required to operate over a finite number of representative trimming conditions in the vertical plane, determine the optimal size of the bow and stern control surfaces so that a weighted average J of the power required at trimming is minimized, subject to the conditions that: i) a given set of open loop requirements are met, and ii) stabilizing feedback controllers can be designed to meet desired time and frequency closed loop performance requirements about each trimming point. The solution proposed is rooted in the theory of Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) and leads to efficient PCO algorithms that build on a recently released LMI Toolbox.The work of C. Silvestre and A.     Neutrino magnetohydrodynamics

    A new neutrino magnetohydrodynamics (NMHD) model is formulated, where the effects of the charged weak current on the electron-ion magnetohydrodynamic fluid are taken into account. The model incorporates in a systematic way the role of the Fermi neutrino weak force in magnetized plasmas. A fast neutrino-driven short wavelengths instability associated with the magnetosonic wave is derived. Such an instability should play a central role in strongly magnetized plasma as occurs in supernovae, where dense neutrino beams also exist. In addition, in the case of nonlinear or high frequency waves, the neutrino coupling is shown to be responsible for breaking the frozen-in magnetic field lines condition even in infinite conductivity plasmas. This work explores the results of a survey especially developed to document the ease of acceptance of possible characteristics to implement in mobile outdoor applications enhanced with AR. Preference level has been evaluated based on indicators from models concerning various existing and important models.     Urethanes and polyurethanes from suberin 2: synthesis and characterization

    Polyurethanes based on suberin from cork of Quercus suber L. and conventional isocyanate monomers were prepared and fully characterized in terms of both structure (FTIR and 1 H NMR spectroscopy) and thermal properties (differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis). Two fractions were systematically isolated, namely (i) methylene-chloride soluble products, which corresponded to linear and branched macromolecules and (ii) methylene-chloride insoluble products, representing the crosslinked material. The structures of these polymers were regular and no appreciable side reactions were detected. DSC analyses provided information about the glass transition temperature of both fractions and this parameter was correlated with the stiffness of the isocyanate used. The TGA of these polyurethanes showed that they started to degrade at about 175°C and that the residue at 400°C was around 50%. The highest amounts of insoluble fractions, as well as the highest Tgs, were reached when an initial [NCO]/[OH] of unity was used.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Latar Belakang : Intra Uterine Fetal Death (IUFD) atau kematian janin dalam rahim adalah janin yang mati dalam rahim dengan berat badan 500 gram atau lebih atau kematian janin dalam rahim pada umur kehamilan 20 minggu atau lebih. IUFD merupakan salah satu penyebab kematian perinatal.Tujuan : Penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang berhubungan dengan kejadian IUFD di RSUP Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou Manado.Metode Penelitian : Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif analitik dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Jumlah sampel 226 orang terbagi atas kasus IUFD 113 orang dan kontrol (tidak IUFD) 113 orang. Instrument penelitian yang digunakan adalah check list. Analisis data menggunakan uji Chi-square.Hasil Penelitian : Hasil analisis uji Chi-square terhadap hubungan umur ibu dengan kejadian IUFD didapatkan nilai ρ value = 0,594 (ρ > 0,05) artinya tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara umur ibu dengan kejadian IUFD, umur kehamilan dengan kejadian IUFD didapatkan nilai ρ value = 1,000 (ρ > 0,05) artinya tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara umur kehamilan dengan kejadian IUFD. Sedangkan hasil analisis uji Chi-square terhadap hubungan kadar Hb dengan kejadian IUFD didapatkan nilai ρ value = 0,010 (ρ < 0,05) artinya terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara kadar Hb dengan kejadian IUFD.Kesimpulan : Tidak ada hubungan antara umur ibu dan umur kehamilan dengan kejadian IUFD, dan ada hubungan antara kadar Hb dengan kejadia

    Cork suberin as a new source of chemicals.: 1. isolation and chemical characterization of its composition

    Extractive-free cork from Quercus suber L. was submitted to a solvolysis treatment with methanolic NaOH which yielded 37% (o.d. cork) of suberin. This mixture of compounds was thoroughly characterized by FTIR, 1 H- and 13C-NMR, gas chromatogra phy coupled with mass spectrometric (GC–MS) analysis, vapour pressure osmometry (VPO), mass spectrography (MS) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). After derivatization, the main components of the volatile fraction, representing less than half of the total, were found to be v-hydroxymonocarboxylates, a,v-dicarboxylates, simple alkanoates and 1-alkanols, all with chain lengths ranging from C16 to C24. A second fraction, with an average molecular weight about three times higher, was detected by VPO, MS and GPC. The presence of this important fraction in cork suberin had not been recognized in earlier studies.     Marginal mandibulectomy in the surgical treatment of tonsil and retromolar trigone tumours

    Resection of the ascending ramus of the mandible can result in considerable functional and esthetic damage. AIM: To compare the survival rate and local and regional recurrence in marginal and segmental mandibulectomy for advanced tonsil and retromolar trigone tumours with no mandibular invasion. PLACE AND PERIOD: Reference Head & Neck Service, between October 1994 and December 2001. MATERIAL AND METHOD: 20 stage IV patients undergoing marginal mandibulectomy and 22 undergoing segmental mandibulectomy were compared. CASE STUDY: a contemporary cross-sectional cohort study. RESULTS: Of 20 patients undergoing marginal mandibulectomy, 35% died of the disease, 15% due to local recurrence, 15% due to regional recurrence and 5% due to local and regional recurrence. Of 22 patients undergoing segmentary mandibulectomy, 36,4% died of the disease, 31,8% due to local recurrence and 13,6% due to distant recurrence. The Kaplan-Meier analysis showed a 55% survival rate for the marginal mandibulectomy group, and a 45% survival rate for the segmental group (p= 0.8329). CONCLUSIONS: Analysis of the two groups showed that conservation of the ascending ramus of the mandible, even in advanced lesions with no mandibular involvement, does not increase the recurrence rate.A ressecção do ramo ascendente da mandíbula ocasiona um déficit funcional e estético considerável. OBJETIVO: Comparar a mandibulectomia marginal e segmentar de tumores avançados de loja amigdalina e região retromolar sem envolvimento ósseo mandibular detectado no período pré-operatório, em relação à sobrevida e recidiva loco-regional. Forma de Estudo: Estudo de coorte contemporânea com corte transversal. MATERIAL E MÉTODO: Compararam-se 20 pacientes tratados com mandibulectomia marginal e 22 tratados com mandibulectomia segmentar de outubro de 1994 a dezembro de 2001 em serviço de referência em Cirurgia de Cabeça e Pescoço. RESULTADOS: Dos 20 pacientes tratados com mandibulectomia marginal, 35% morreram com doença, 15% por recidiva local, 15% por recidiva regional e 5% por recidiva loco-regional. Dos 22 pacientes tratados com mandibulectomia segmentar 45,4% morreram pela doença, sendo 31,8% por recidiva local e 13,6% por recidiva à distância. Na análise pelo método de Kaplan-Meier o grupo tratado com mandibulectomia marginal apresentou uma taxa de 55%, e o grupo tratado com ressecção segmentar 45% com p= 0,8329.
