    Non-binary experiences in the context of gender dichotomization: a qualitative systematic review

    Gender diverse persons have historically and presently faced unique challenges, marginalization, and discrimination. The lived experiences of the transgender nonconforming population are still widely unresearched, and most research treats transgender and transgender nonconforming (TGNC) people as a homogeneous group. This neglects the nuanced and diverse experience of the TGNC population. This integrative systematic review of the literature was conducted in order to identify and highlight the experiences of transgender nonconforming persons in the context of a binarily set world. The following questions guided this study: (a) What are the identity-related experiences of non-binary individuals in the context of gender dichotomization?, (b) What are the social and relational experiences of non-binary individuals in the context of gender dichotomization?, and (c) What are the psychotherapy and counseling experiences of nonbinary individuals in the context of gender dichotomization? The comprehensive search process yielded 24 qualitative studies that met inclusion criteria. Review findings suggest that the TGNC community is heterogeneous in their gender identities and experience their gender journey as nuanced and unique to the individual and in the context of their other socio-cultural identities. Additionally, themes of acceptance from family, peers, romantic partners, mental health providers, and educational systems appeared to promote overall socio-emotional wellness, while rejection appeared to exacerbate mental health problems and lead to internalized negative attitudes directed at oneself. Though only two studies directly looked at the therapeutic relationship and mental health outcomes, data suggests that the TGNC community benefits from providers educating themselves about the TGNC community, while also cultivating a safe and affirming environment

    Assessment of farmers’ willingness to pay for quality seed using dynamic auctions: The case of smallholder potato growers in Tanzania.

    Irish potato is an important income and food security crop in many sub-Sahara Africa countries (SSA). However, the neglect of the potato Irish potato industry and failure of privatization to spur investment in seed potato production stifled the industry. Hence farmers have been forced to recycle seed, resulting in quality degradation and, in some cases resulting in up to 66-75% yield, and hence income, declines. The recent global food price swings has led to renewed interest in developing potato subsector in most producing SSA countries. One intervention by SSA governments has been in trying break the quality seed bottleneck by investing in generation of quality seed. Such investment involve construction of state of the art seed production labs to clean degraded seed and evaluate imported seed, on-station and on-farm testing, and promotion smallholder seed production. This study uses data collected from Tanzania to examine farmers’ willingness to pay such seed. Since 2009, Tanzania government has heavily invested in developing seed potato industry jointly with international and national research organization through donor support

    Quantum Inequalities for the Electromagnetic Field

    A quantum inequality for the quantized electromagnetic field is developed for observers in static curved spacetimes. The quantum inequality derived is a generalized expression given by a mode function expansion of the four-vector potential, and the sampling function used to weight the energy integrals is left arbitrary up to the constraints that it be a positive, continuous function of unit area and that it decays at infinity.     Gravitons and Lightcone Fluctuations

    Gravitons in a squeezed vacuum state, the natural result of quantum creation in the early universe or by black holes, will introduce metric fluctuations. These metric fluctuations will introduce fluctuations of the lightcone. It is shown that when the various two-point functions of a quantized field are averaged over the metric fluctuations, the lightcone singularity disappears for distinct points. The metric averaged functions remain singular in the limit of coincident points. The metric averaged retarded Green's function for a massless field becomes a Gaussian which is nonzero both inside and outside of the classical lightcone. This implies some photons propagate faster than the classical light speed, whereas others propagate slower. The possible effects of metric fluctuations upon one-loop quantum processes are discussed and illustrated by the calculation of the one-loop electron self-energy.Comment: 18pp, LATEX, TUTP-94-1

    Phantom Cosmology with Non-minimally Coupled Real Scalar Field

    We find that the expansion of the universe is accelerating by analyzing the recent observation data of type \textsc{I}a supernova(SN-Ia) .It indicates that the equation of state of the dark energy might be smaller than -1,which leads to the introduction of phantom models featured by its negative kinetic energy to account for the regime of equation of state parameter w<−1w<-1.In this paper the possibility of using a non-minimally coupled real scalar field as phantom to realize the equation of state parameter w<−1w<-1 is discussed.The main equations which govern the evolution of the universe are obtained.Then we rewrite them with the observable quantities.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures.     VIVO and VIV Species Formed in Aqueous Solution by the Tridentate Glutaroimide–Dioxime Ligand – An Instrumental and Computational Characterization

    Complexation of VIV in aqueous solution with glutaroimide–dioxime (H3L), a ligand proposed for the possible sequestration of uranium from seawater, was studied by the combined application of spectroscopic (EPR and UV/Vis), spectrometric (ESI‐MS), electrochemical (CV), and computational (DFT) techniques. The results indicate that a rare non‐oxido VIV species, with formula [VIVL2]2–, is formed in the pH range 3–5. It transforms into a usual VIVO complex, [VIVOL(OH)]2–, at pH > 6. The non‐oxido species is characterized by a "type 3" EPR spectrum with Az ≈ 126 × 10–4 cm–1 and a UV/Vis signal with Δ > 2000 m–1 cm–1 in the visible region. The detection of VV species by ESI‐MS spectrometry was related to two possible oxidation processes, the first one in solution and the second one in‐source during the recording of the spectra. The cyclic voltammogram of [VIVL2]2– shows two quasi‐reversible processes, at E1/2 = –0.75 V and E1/2 = 0.03 V, assigned to the VIV/VIII reduction and VIV/VV oxidation, respectively. All the experimental results were verified by DFT calculations, which indicated that the geometry of the non‐oxido VIV complex is intermediate between an octahedron and a trigonal prism and allowed us to predict its 51V hyperfine coupling (HFC) tensor A, the electron absorption spectrum, the two redox processes in the cyclic voltammogram, and the electronic structure that, in turn, determines its EPR and UV/Vis behavior

    On the spin-statistics connection in curved spacetimes

    The connection between spin and statistics is examined in the context of locally covariant quantum field theory. A generalization is proposed in which locally covariant theories are defined as functors from a category of framed spacetimes to a category of ∗*-algebras. This allows for a more operational description of theories with spin, and for the derivation of a more general version of the spin-statistics connection in curved spacetimes than previously available. The proof involves a "rigidity argument" that is also applied in the standard setting of locally covariant quantum field theory to show how properties such as Einstein causality can be transferred from Minkowski spacetime to general curved spacetimes.Comment: 17pp. Contribution to the proceedings of the conference "Quantum Mathematical Physics" (Regensburg, October 2014
