    Toy Model for Pion Production II: The role of three-particle singularities

    The influence of three-particle breakup singularities on s-wave meson production in nucleon-nucleon collisions is studied within the distorted wave Born approximation. This study is based on a simple scalar model for the two-nucleon interaction and the production mechanism. An algorithm for the exact numerical treatment of the inherent three-body cuts, together with its straightforward implementation is presented. It is also shown that two often-used approximations to avoid the calculation of the three-body breakup are not justified. The possible impact on pion production observables is discussed.Comment: 14 pages, 6 figure

    On the gauge and BRST invariance of the chiral QED with Faddeevian anomaly

    Chiral Schwinger model with the Faddeevian anomaly is considered. It is found that imposing a chiral constraint this model can be expressed in terms of chiral boson. The model when expressed in terms of chiral boson remains anomalous and the Gauss law of which gives anomalous Poisson brackets between itself. In spite of that a systematic BRST quantization is possible. The Wess-Zumino term corresponding to this theory appears automatically during the process of quantization. A gauge invariant reformulation of this model is also constructed. Unlike the former one gauge invariance is done here without any extension of phase space. This gauge invariant version maps onto the vector Schwinger model.The gauge invariant version of the chiral Schwinger model for a=2a=2 has a massive field with identical mass however gauge invariant version obtained here does not map on to that.Comment: 11 pages latex, no figures, A little change in Title and abstrac

    Nucleon Polarizabilities from Deuteron Compton Scattering within a Green's-Function Hybrid Approach

    We examine elastic Compton scattering from the deuteron for photon energies ranging from zero to 100 MeV, using state-of-the-art deuteron wave functions and NN-potentials. Nucleon-nucleon rescattering between emission and absorption of the two photons is treated by Green's functions in order to ensure gauge invariance and the correct Thomson limit. With this Green's-function hybrid approach, we fulfill the low-energy theorem of deuteron Compton scattering and there is no significant dependence on the deuteron wave function used. Concerning the nucleon structure, we use Chiral Effective Field Theory with explicit \Delta(1232) degrees of freedom within the Small Scale Expansion up to leading-one-loop order. Agreement with available data is good at all energies. Our 2-parameter fit to all elastic γd\gamma d data leads to values for the static isoscalar dipole polarizabilities which are in excellent agreement with the isoscalar Baldin sum rule. Taking this value as additional input, we find \alpha_E^s= (11.3+-0.7(stat)+-0.6(Baldin)) x 10^{-4} fm^3 and \beta_M^s = (3.2-+0.7(stat)+-0.6(Baldin)) x 10^{-4} fm^3 and conclude by comparison to the proton numbers that neutron and proton polarizabilities are essentially the same.Comment: 47 pages LaTeX2e with 20 figures in 59 .eps files, using graphicx.     Precise measurement of hadronic tau-decays with an eta meson

    We have studied hadronic tau decay modes involving an eta meson using 490 fb^{-1} of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. The following branching fractions have been measured: B(tau- -> K- eta nu)=(1.58 +- 0.05 +- 0.09)x 10^{-4}, B(tau- -> K- pi0 eta nu)=(4.6 +- 1.1 +- 0.4)x 10^{-5}, B(tau- -> pi- pi0 eta nu)=(1.35 +- 0.03 +- 0.07)x 10^{-3}, B(tau- -> pi- KS eta nu)=(4.4 +- 0.7 +- 0.2)x 10^{-5}, and B(tau- -> K^{*-} eta nu)=(1.34 +- 0.12 +- 0.09)x 10^{-4}. These results are substantially more precise than previous measurements. The new measurements are compared with theoretical calculations based on the CVC hypothesis or the chiral perturbation theory. We also set upper limits on branching fractions for tau decays into K- KS eta nu, pi- KS pi0 eta nu, K- eta eta nu, pi- eta eta nu and non-resonant K- pi^0 eta nu final states.Comment: 24 pages, 7 figure

    Nucleon-deuteron elastic scattering as a tool to probe properties of three-nucleon forces

    Faddeev equations for elastic Nd scattering have been solved using modern NN forces combined with the Tucson-Melbourne two-pion exchange three-nucleon force, with a modification thereof closer to chiral symmetry and the Urbana IX three-nucleon force. Theoretical predictions for the differential cross section and several spin observables using NN forces only and NN forces combined with three-nucleon force models are compared to each other and to the existing data. A wide range of energies from 3 to 200 MeV is covered. Especially at the higher energies striking three-nucleon force effects are found, some of which are supported by the still rare set of data, some are in conflict with data and thus very likely point to defects in those three-nucleon force models.Comment: 30 pages, 14 Postscript figures; now minor changes in figures and reference

    Search for Lepton-Flavor-Violating tau Decays into a Lepton and an f0(980) Meson

    We search for lepton-flavor-violating tau decays into a lepton (electron or muon) and an f0(980) meson using 671 fb-1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. No events are observed and we set the following 90% C.L. upper limits on the branching fraction products: B(tau- -> e-f0(980))*B(f0(980)->pi+pi-) mu-f0(980))*B(f0(980) -> pi+pi-)<3.4x10^-8.     Search for B+ -> D*+ pi0 decay

    We report on a search for the doubly Cabibbo suppressed decay B+ -> D*+ pi0, based on a data sample of 657 million BBbar pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e+ e- collider. We find no significant signal and set an upper limit of Br(B+ -> D*+ pi0) < 3.6 x 10^-6 at the 90% confidence level. This limit can be used to constrain the ratio between suppressed and favored B -> D* pi decay amplitudes, r < 0.051, at the 90% confidence level.Comment: 5pages, 2figures, submitted to PRL (v1); PRL published version (v2: minor corrections in the text

    Observation of the ϕ(1680)\phi(1680) and the Y(2175) in e+eϕπ+πe^+ e^- \to \phi\pi^+\pi^-

    The cross sections for e+eϕπ+πe^+ e^- \to \phi\pi^+\pi^- and e^+ e^- \to \phi \fzero are measured from threshold to s=3.0\sqrt{s}=3.0 GeV\hbox{GeV} using initial state radiation. The analysis is based on a data sample of 673 fb1^{-1} collected on and below the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^+e^- collider. First measurements are reported for the resonance parameters of the ϕ(1680)\phi(1680) in the ϕπ+π\phi\pi^+\pi^- mode: m=(1689±7±10)m=(1689\pm 7\pm 10) MeV/c2c^2 and Γ=(211±14±19)\Gamma=(211\pm 14\pm 19) MeV/c2c^2. A structure at s=2.1GeV/c2\sqrt{s}=2.1 \hbox{GeV}/c^2, corresponding to the so called Y(2175), is observed; its mass and width are determined to be 2079±1328+792079\pm13^{+79}_{-28} MeV/c2c^2 and 192±2361+25MeV/c2192\pm23^{+25}_{-61} \hbox{MeV}/c^2, respectively.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures.
