Uncovering a Mystery of the Isoflavonoid Metabolon: Identification and Characterization of the Arogenate Dehydratase Gene Family in Soybean

Soybean (Glycine max) is a vastly important, multi-billion dollar global commodity; but this crop’s yields are under threat from the pathogen Phytophthora sojae, which causes extensive stem and root rot in soybean crops. Isoflavonoids, a metabolite class unique to legumes, are a promising research target to combat P. sojae. Isoflavonoids are released as phytoalexins in response to stress, and also facilitate interactions with nitrogen-fixing rhizobial bacteria through nodule formation. An isoflavonoid biosynthesis metabolon was discovered in soybean through co-immunoprecipitation, anchored to the endoplasmic reticulum by isoflavone synthase (IFS) and Cinnamate 4-hydroxylase, two cytochrome P450 enzymes. One of the IFS-interacting partners discovered was arogenate dehydratase (ADT), which synthesizes phenylalanine, the precursor to the phenylpropanoid pathway. Generally ADTs are localized to the chloroplast, making the interaction with IFS seemingly impossible. In the current study, 9 GmADTs were identified, and the GmADT-GmIFS interaction was confirmed. These findings broaden the current knowledge of the isoflavonoid metabolon

Jarosite versus Soluble Iron-Sulfate Formation and Their Role in Acid Mine Drainage Formation at the Pan de Azúcar Mine Tailings (Zn-Pb-Ag), NW Argentina

    Get PDF
Secondary jarosite and water-soluble iron-sulfate minerals control the composition of acid mine waters formed by the oxidation of sulfide in tailings impoundments at the (Zn-Pb-Ag) Pan de Azúcar mine located in the Pozuelos Lagoon Basin (semi-arid climate) in Northwest (NW) Argentina. In the primary zone of the tailings (9.5 wt % pyrite-marcasite) precipitation of anglesite (PbSO4), wupatkite ((Co,Mg,Ni)Al2(SO4)4) and gypsum retain Pb, Co and Ca, while mainly Fe2+, Zn2+, Al3+, Mg2+, As3+/5+ and Cd2+ migrate downwards, forming a sulfate and metal-rich plume. In the oxidation zone, jarosite (MFe3(TO4)2(OH)6) is the main secondary Fe3+ phase; its most suitable composition is M = K+, Na+, and Pb2+and TO4 = SO42−; AsO42−. During the dry season, iron-sulfate salts precipitate by capillary transport on the tailings and at the foot of DC2 (tailings impoundment DC2) tailings dam where an acid, Fe2+ rich plume outcrops. The most abundant compounds in the acid mine drainage (AMD) are SO42−, Fe2+, Fe3+, Zn2+, Al3+, Mg2+, Cu2+, As3+/5+, Cd2+. These show peak concentrations at the beginning of the wet season, when the soluble salts and jarosite dissolve. The formation of soluble sulfate salts during the dry season and dilution during the wet season conform an annual cycle of rapid metals and acidity transference from the tailings to the downstream environment.

An historical perspective on the Canadian-American free trade movement of 1947-1948: Commercial union-unrestricted reciprocity revisited.

This study in Canadian-American relations examines the ongoing existence of the idea of reciprocity in theory and in practice from its early beginnings in the 1840s, culminating with the free trade movement of 1947-48. The original thrust is to place the 1940s movement into an historical perspective, that underscores the fact that the programme adopted in 1947-48 was a full regeneration of the more memorable commercial union-unrestricted reciprocity movement of 1887-1891. Unlike the free trade movement of the late 1880s, little has been written on the 1947-48 movement. In fact, the idea of comparing the similarities between the 1880s and the 1940s has appeared to escape the interest of the relatively few scholars of Canadian-American relations who have attempted to shed light on the 1947-48 episode. Moreover, in light of Canada\u27s historic decision to enter into the current free trade agreement with the United States in November 1988, investigating the historical significance of an issue that has been constant and pervasive in Canadian-American relations is a valuable undertaking.Dept. of History, Philosophy, and Political Science. Political socialization in/with digital environments can be understood as those politics learnings that we be able to to reconstruct from various dimensions (political subjectivation, socialization, appropriation of technologies) that are part of our relation with digital social networks. Here we will present a typology of politics learning by young people within the context of two civil society organizations in the city of Corrientes (Argentina): Oajnu and Techo.Facultad de Periodismo y Comunicación Socia
