A Simulation Tool for tccp Programs

The Timed Concurrent Constraint Language tccp is a declarative synchronous concurrent language, particularly suitable for modelling reactive systems. In tccp, agents communicate and synchronise through a global constraint store. It supports a notion of discrete time that allows all non-blocked agents to proceed with their execution simultaneously. In this paper, we present a modular architecture for the simulation of tccp programs. The tool comprises three main components. First, a set of basic abstract instructions able to model the tccp agent behaviour, the memory model needed to manage the active agents and the state of the store during the execution. Second, the agent interpreter that executes the instructions of the current agent iteratively and calculates the new agents to be executed at the next time instant. Finally, the constraint solver components which are the modules that deal with constraints. Engineering Students’ Motivational Beliefs. Development of a Scale Utilizing an Expectancy, Value, and Cost Framework

In the current study, researchers developed a 12-item instrument (Engineering Student Motivational Beliefs Scale; ESMBS) to assess engineering students’ perceived expectancies, values, and costs of being an engineering major and pursuing an engineering career. The purpose of the paper is to present the ESMBS development process, including preliminary psychometric information. Researchers used Benson’s model of construct validation, encompassing three phases, to guide the development and preliminary validation of ESMBS. The substantive phase included a thorough review of the literature to theoretically and empirically define the expectancy, value, and cost constructs within the context of undergraduate engineering. The structural phase consisted of psychometric investigations of the scale to examine internal consistencies. Finally, during the external phase, the relationship between the ESMBS constructs and student engagement was examined. The results from this preliminary instrument development study were mixed, showing the need for further examination of the measure

En este artículo veremos la forma en que ex combatientes y familiares de caídos de la Guerra de Malvinas encuentran formas muy distintas de entender las muertes en la guerra en el contexto de la última dictadura militar en la Argentina. En este sentido, veremos de qué manera, a través de diferentes marcos de interpretación, establecen modos específicos de relacionarse con los muertos y con la historia nacional.In this article we see the different ways in which families of veterans and fallen of the Falklands War gave meaning to the deaths in the war in the context of the military dictatorship in Argentina. Aproximación a la documentación judicial inquisitorial conservada en el Archivo Histórico Nacional

The author analyzes the legal documentation produced by the Spanish Inquisition in modern times preserved in the National Historical Archive. The most representative is the “causa de fe” (cause of faith). Destruction of these documents in the nineteenth century requires the researcher to seek other complementary sources, such as the “relaciones de causas y autos de fe” (relations of cause and faith autos) and “alegaciones fiscales” (fiscal allegations). The Inquisition was also a court which managed the “civil litigations” and “criminal cases” of its own staff, which entailed “pleitos de competencias” (lawsuits of competitions) with other courts when there was no mutual understanding.El autor analiza la documentación judicial producida por la Inquisición española en época moderna conservada en el Archivo Histórico Nacional. La más representativa es la causa de fe. La destrucción de esta documentación en el siglo XIX obliga al investigador a acudir a otras fuentes complementarias, como son las “relaciones de causas y autos de fe” y las “alegaciones fiscales”. A Virgem de Luján: fonte sagrada de legitimação dos heróis da Guerra das Malvinas.

La pérdida de un ser querido en una guerra, al igual que en las pérdidas extraordinarias en general, produce una ruptura en las formas habituales de enfrentar la muerte. En este artículo veremos la forma en que familiares de la organización Familiares de Caídos en Malvinas e Islas del Atlántico Sur se adaptaron a estos cambios reelaborando creativamente los modelos convencionales para entenderla, a través de un marco de interpretación de las pérdidas en donde la Virgen de Luján, fuente sagrada de legitimación de los muertos y los deudos, deviene para los familiares en el instrumento a través del cual se produce la comunión de todos los argentinos, tanto vivos como muertos, y se refuerza la identidad nacional.The loss of a loved one in war, as in the extraordinary losses in general, produces a break in the usual ways of facing death. In this article we will see how relatives of fallen in the Malvinas War were adapted to these changes in a creative way, reformulating conventional models to understand them, through a framework of interpretation of losses where the Virgin of Luján, sacred source of legitimation of the dead and the bereaved, becomes the instrument through which occurs the communion of all Argentineans, both living and dead, and strengthening the national identity.A perda de um ente querido numa guerra, como nas perdas extraordinárias em geral, produz uma ruptura nas formas usuais de encarar a morte. The Hero’s Body: the Unveiling of the Bust of a Soldier Fallen in the Malvinas War

En este artículo veremos de qué manera el descubrimiento del busto del soldado caído en la Guerra de Malvinas, Elbio Araujo, expresa un marco simbólico de interpretación de la muerte en la guerra de un grupo particular, y deviene para los familiares en un escenario de dramatización de la muerte que por la falta del cuerpo no pudo enfrentarse a través de sus formas habituales. Observaré al ritual desde el punto de vista de la performance, ya que nos permite ver de qué manera estamos refiriéndonos a experiencias vivenciadas en escenarios determinados, a través de los cuales es habitada la muerte de una persona, y significada de una manera particular. Así, veremos que a través del descubrimiento del busto, se sustituye la presencia del cuerpo ausente por otra materialidad y la puesta en escena actúa no sólo como un canal de comunicación a través del cual los deudos expresan al resto de la sociedad sus experiencias y los sentidos dados a la muerte en la guerra, sino que deviene también, para los familiares involucrados, en una práctica transformadora en cuanto a la reflexividad que propone sobre la condición social del muerto.In this paper we will show how the unveiling of the bust of Elbio Araujo, a soldier fallen in the Malvinas War, expresses the symbolic framework for interpretation of death in battle of a particular group, at the same time becoming for his relatives the stage for dramatization of a death that could not be dealt with in the usual manner due to the lack of a body. We will deal with the ritual from the point of view of performance, since it allows us to see the ways experiences are lived in specific scenes, through which the death of a person is inhabited and signified in a particular way. Therefore, we will show that through the unveiling of the bust, the lack of the body is replaced by a different materiality and that the performance acts not only as a communication channel through which the bereaved express their experiences and the meanings given to death in war to society at large, but also becomes, for the families involved, a transformative practice through the proposed reflexivity on the social status of the deceased.Fil: Panizo, Laura Marina.
