Several authors have analysed how institutionalized women's movements impact policy, but research has devoted little attention to the differentiated impact of institutionalized movements on the substantive and symbolic dimensions of the same policy. I investigate this issue by focusing on the Bolivian movement of domestic workers, a paradigmatic case of an institutionalized women's movement that had a sound impact on the symbolic dimension of the policy on domestic workers' rights but a much weaker impact on its substantive dimension. The research is based on qualitative content analysis of documents produced by the movement and the government, and semi-structured interviews with key actors. I have reached three main findings. First, institutionalization facilitates the achievement of symbolic policy outcomes, but does not necessarily allow the achievement of substantive policy outcomes. Second, the inclusion of movements in deliberative processes that imply the joint elaboration of policy seems to be the form of institutionalization that allows the strongest impact on the substantive dimension of policy, while the appointment of movement members to official positions is less effective. Third, a form of institutionalization that was not included in existent typologies has been identified: the recognition of the importance of a movement by the government

Nowadays, social networks contain information that can be used to extract knowledge from it, however, the insights from that information are usually accessible to companies but not to individuals. The aim of this project is to provide an accessible web application that makes use of Machine Learning algorithms together with Twitter official’s API to perform Sentiment Analysis over a set of tweets. Different natural language and feature engineering techniques have been applied to generate a range of trained models, including Logistic Regression, Bernoulli Naïve Bayes, Support Vector Machines and Random Forest. Finally, these models have been compared to one another and several conclusions were drawn: Bernoulli Naïve Bayes and SVM performed the best, even if resulting in a F-score larger than 0.9, without suffering overfitting, is extremely difficult.

On Verifying Resource Contracts using Code Contracts

In this paper we present an approach to check resource consumption contracts using an off-the-shelf static analyzer. We propose a set of annotations to support resource usage specifications, in particular, dynamic memory consumption constraints. Since dynamic memory may be recycled by a memory manager, the consumption of this resource is not monotone. The specification language can express both memory consumption and lifetime properties in a modular fashion. We develop a proof-of-concept implementation by extending Code Contracts' specification language. To verify the correctness of these annotations we rely on the Code Contracts static verifier and a points-to analysis. We also briefly discuss possible extensions of our approach to deal with non-linear expressions.Comment: In Proceedings LAFM 2013, arXiv:1401.056

Measuring Object Rotation via Visuo-Tactile Segmentation of Grasping Region

When carrying out robotic manipulation tasks, objects occasionally fall as a result of the rotation caused by slippage. This can be prevented by obtaining tactile information that provides better knowledge on the physical properties of the grasping. In this paper, we estimate the rotation angle of a grasped object when slippage occurs. We implement a system made up of a neural network with which to segment the contact region and an algorithm with which to estimate the rotated angle of that region. This method is applied to DIGIT tactile sensors. Our system has additionally been trained and tested with our publicly available dataset which is, to the best of our knowledge, the first dataset related to tactile segmentation from non-synthetic images to appear in the literature, and with which we have attained results of 95% and 90% as regards Dice and IoU metrics in the worst scenario. Moreover, we have obtained a maximum error of ≈ 3° when testing with objects not previously seen by our system in 45 different lifts. This, therefore, proved that our approach is able to detect the slippage movement, thus providing a possible reaction that will prevent the object from falling. This work was supported by the Ministry of Science and Innovation of the Spanish Government through the research project PID2021-122685OB-I00 and by the University of Alicante through the grant UAFPU21-26

Left-wing populist parties have become increasingly central to European politics since the 2008 economic crisis, but have been analysed less often than radical right-wing populist parties. This research contributes to filling this gap through a comparison of Podemos and France Insoumise, two paradigmatic cases of left-wing populist parties. Two dimensions are analysed: the discourse and the inner organisa-tion of the parties. The article is based on qualitative content analysis of policy and organisational documents published by both parties, and on public interventions made by their respective leaders during the periods of emergence and consolidation of each party. The analysis allows us to reach two conclusions. First, Podemos and France Insoumise both promote discourses that are inclusive in their symbolic, mate-rial and political dimensions (Mudde and Rovira Kaltwasser, 2013) - which allows us to distinguish them from the radical populist right. Second, the two parties have different structures, which suggests that left-wing populism does not necessarily imply a specific organisational model

Populismo y democracia

Discussions on the relation between populism and democracy have become growingly frequent in the literature. Some authors consider that there is a virtuous relation between both phenomena, while others define the relation between populism and democracy as ambiguous, and a third stream views populism as a threat for democracy. In this article I review three books that are paradigmatic examples of the mentioned currents, and I support the following position: populism is compatible with democracy, and it reinforces its participatory dimension, but it presents certain tensions with political pluralism. In addition, the analysis performed in the present article suggests that the relation between populism and democracy takes specific forms in each case, and systematic comparative research on populist and non-populist actors is needed to better identify the distinctive features of populism.

Hydrogen trapping in an API 5L X60 steel

Electrochemical hydrogen permeation tests were performed on an API 5L X60 steel to study trapping and diffusion properties in the as-received (AR) and in a cold-rolled (CR) state, at 30, 50 and 70 C. Hydrogen trapping was characterized by assuming saturable traps in local equilibrium. Binding energies (DG) and trap densities (N) were determined by fitting a trapping theoretical model to experimental data. Both conditions AR and CR present a high density of weak traps |DG| < 35 kJ/mol, namely N = 1.4 105 and 7.9 104 mol/cm3 respectively. Strong trapping sites were detected (72 < DG < 57 kJ/mol) and their densities increased markedly after cold-rolling.Fil: Castaño Rivera, Patricia. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of sex, average daily gain (ADG) and purchase size on performance and gross monthly profitability (GMR) and to know the structure of association between economic and performance variables in grazing cattle located under rainy tropical conditions in Colombia. The records of 598 cattle from the years 2016 to 2021 were analysed. The animals were classified by sex and into three groups based on the live weight (small, medium, and large) when purchased. The least squares methodology was used to determine the influence of the effects and their interaction on the GMR (p<0.05). The final model included the factors of sex, size and their interaction while ADG and days to fattening (DF) were included as linear covariates within the model. The principal component analysis methodology was used to discover the association structure between variables. Females produced higher GMR and gained less weight than males (7.7 and 6.7% and 399±8.0 and 526±5.6 g, respectively). Small animals generate higher GMR (8.4±0.1%), than medium (6.9±0.1%) and large (6.2±0.2%). Principal component analysis grouped five features into two principal components (PC), retaining 76.8% of the total variance. The (CP1) grouped the variables initial weight and DF. CP2 was strongly associated with final weight, ADG, and GMR. The effect of sex, ADG and size influenced the GMR. Principal components analysis was efficient in identifying associations between the characteristics studied, where initial weight and DF present an inversely proportional association, and final weight, ADG and GMR have a directly proportional association.
