    Local well-posedness for the nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation in the intersection of modulation spaces Mp,qs(Rd)∩M∞,1(Rd)M_{p, q}^s(\mathbb{R}^d) \cap M_{\infty, 1}(\mathbb{R}^d)

    We introduce a Littlewood-Paley characterization of modulation spaces and use it to give an alternative proof of the algebra property, somehow implicitly contained in Sugimoto (2011), of the intersection Mp,qs(Rd)∩M∞,1(Rd)M^s_{p,q}(\mathbb{R}^d) \cap M_{\infty, 1}(\mathbb{R}^d) for d∈Nd \in \mathbb{N}, p,q∈[1,∞]p, q \in [1, \infty] and s≥0s \geq 0. We employ this algebra property to show the local well-posedness of the Cauchy problem for the cubic nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation in the above intersection. This improves Theorem 1.1 by B\'enyi and Okoudjou (2009), where only the case q=1q = 1 is considered, and closes a gap in the literature. If q>1q > 1 and s>d(1−1q)s > d \left(1 - \frac{1}{q}\right) or if q=1q = 1 and s≥0s \geq 0 then Mp,qs(Rd)↪M∞,1(Rd)M^s_{p,q}(\mathbb{R}^d) \hookrightarrow M_{\infty, 1}(\mathbb{R}^d) and the above intersection is superfluous. For this case we also reobtain a H\"older-type inequality for modulation spaces.Comment: 14 page

This paper presents an algorithm design of Music Visualization on Robot (MVR) which could automatically link the flashlight, color, and emotion through music. We call this algorithm as MVR algorithm that composed by two analyses. First, we focus on Music Signal Analysis. Second, we focus on Music Sentiment Analysis. We integrate two analysis results and implement the MVR algorithm on a robot called Zenbo which is released from ASUS Company. We perform the Zenbo Robot in luminous environments. The MVR system not only could be used in Zenbo robot but also could extend to other fields of Artificial Intelligent (AI) equipment in the future

    Identifying the favored mutation in a positive selective sweep.

    Most approaches that capture signatures of selective sweeps in population genomics data do not identify the specific mutation favored by selection. We present iSAFE (for "integrated selection of allele favored by evolution"), a method that enables researchers to accurately pinpoint the favored mutation in a large region (∼5 Mbp) by using a statistic derived solely from population genetics signals. iSAFE does not require knowledge of demography, the phenotype under selection, or functional annotations of mutations

    Marked long-term decline in ambient CO mixing ratio in SE England, 1997–2014:Evidence of policy success in improving air quality

    Atmospheric CO at Egham in SE England has shown a marked and progressive decline since 1997, following adoption of strict controls on emissions. The Egham site is uniquely positioned to allow both assessment and comparison of ‘clean Atlantic background’ air and CO-enriched air downwind from the London conurbation. The decline is strongest (approximately 50ppb per year) in the 1997–2003 period but continues post 2003. A ‘local CO increment’ can be identified as the residual after subtraction of contemporary background Atlantic CO mixing ratios from measured values at Egham. This increment, which is primarily from regional sources (during anticyclonic or northerly winds) or from the European continent (with easterly air mass origins), has significant seasonality, but overall has declined steadily since 1997. On many days of the year CO measured at Egham is now not far above Atlantic background levels measured at Mace Head (Ireland). The results are consistent with MOPITT satellite observations and ‘bottom-up’ inventory results. Comparison with urban and regional background CO mixing ratios in Hong Kong demonstrates the importance of regional, as opposed to local reduction of CO emission. The Egham record implies that controls on emissions subsequent to legislation have been extremely successful in the UK

    Mean-risk models using two risk measures: A multi-objective approach

    This paper proposes a model for portfolio optimisation, in which distributions are characterised and compared on the basis of three statistics: the expected value, the variance and the CVaR at a specified confidence level. The problem is multi-objective and transformed into a single objective problem in which variance is minimised while constraints are imposed on the expected value and CVaR. In the case of discrete random variables, the problem is a quadratic program. The mean-variance (mean-CVaR) efficient solutions that are not dominated with respect to CVaR (variance) are particular efficient solutions of the proposed model. In addition, the model has efficient solutions that are discarded by both mean-variance and mean-CVaR models, although they may improve the return distribution. The model is tested on real data drawn from the FTSE 100 index. An analysis of the return distribution of the chosen portfolios is presented

We and others have previously identified a subpopulation of pancreatic cancer stem cells within the tumor as a critical therapeutic target and additionally shown that the tumor stroma represents not only a restrictive barrier for successful drug delivery, but also serves as a paracrine niche for cancer stem cells. Therefore, we embarked on a large-scale investigation on the effects of combining chemotherapy, hedgehog pathway inhibition, and mTOR inhibition in a preclinical mouse model of pancreatic cancer. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: Prospective and randomized testing in a set of almost 200 subcutaneous and orthotopic implanted whole-tissue primary human tumor xenografts. RESULTS: The combined targeting of highly chemoresistant cancer stem cells as well as their more differentiated progenies, together with abrogation of the tumor microenvironment by targeting the stroma and enhancing tissue penetration of the chemotherapeutic agent translated into significantly prolonged survival in preclinical models of human pancreatic cancer. Most pronounced therapeutic effects were observed in gemcitabine-resistant patient-derived tumors. Intriguingly, the proposed triple therapy approach could be further enhanced by using a PEGylated formulation of gemcitabine, which significantly increased its bioavailability and tissue penetration, resulting in a further improved overall outcome. CONCLUSIONS: This multimodal therapeutic strategy should be further explored in the clinical setting as its success may eventually improve the poor prognosis of patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

    BPS States, Refined Indices, and Quiver Invariants

    For D=4 BPS state construction, counting, and wall-crossing thereof, quiver quantum mechanics offers two alternative approaches, the Coulomb phase and the Higgs phase, which sometimes produce inequivalent counting. The authors have proposed, in arXiv:1205.6511, two conjectures on the precise relationship between the two, with some supporting evidences. Higgs phase ground states are naturally divided into the Intrinsic Higgs sector, which is insensitive to wall-crossings and thus an invariant of quiver, plus a pulled-back ambient cohomology, conjectured to be an one-to-one image of Coulomb phase ground states. In this note, we show that these conjectures hold for all cyclic quivers with Abelian nodes, and further explore angular momentum and R-charge content of individual states. Along the way, we clarify how the protected spin character of BPS states should be computed in the Higgs phase, and further determine the entire Hodge structure of the Higgs phase cohomology. This shows that, while the Coulomb phase states are classified by angular momentum, the Intrinsic Higgs states are classified by R-symmetry.Comment: 51 pages, 5 figure
