Asymptotic Behavior of Ext functors for modules of finite complete intersection dimension
Let be a local ring, and let and be finitely generated
-modules such that has finite complete intersection dimension. In this
paper we define and study, under certain conditions, a pairing using the
modules \Ext_R^i(M,N) which generalizes Buchweitz's notion of the Herbrand
diference. We exploit this pairing to examine the number of consecutive
vanishing of \Ext_R^i(M,N) needed to ensure that \Ext_R^i(M,N)=0 for all
. Our results recover and improve on most of the known bounds in the
literature, especially when has dimension at most two
1st International consensus guidelines for advanced breast cancer (ABC 1)
The 1st international Consensus Conference for Advanced Breast Cancer (ABC 1) took place on November 2011, in Lisbon. Consensus guidelines for the management of this disease were developed. This manuscript summarizes these international consensus guidelines
Classification of Supernovae
The current classification scheme for supernovae is presented. The main
observational features of the supernova types are described and the physical
implications briefly addressed. Differences between the homogeneous
thermonuclear type Ia and similarities among the heterogeneous core collapse
type Ib, Ic and II are highlighted. Transforming type IIb, narrow line type
IIn, supernovae associated with GRBs and few peculiar objects are also
discussed.Comment: 16 Pages, 4 figures, to be published in "Supernovae and Gamma-Ray

Prognostic value of total tumor volume in patients with colorectal liver metastases:A secondary analysis of the randomized CAIRO5 trial with external cohort validation
Background:This study aimed to assess the prognostic value of total tumor volume (TTV) for early recurrence (within 6 months) and overall survival (OS) in patients with colorectal liver metastases (CRLM), treated with induction systemic therapy followed by complete local treatment. Methods: Patients with initially unresectable CRLM from the multicenter randomized phase 3 CAIRO5 trial (NCT02162563) who received induction systemic therapy followed by local treatment were included. Baseline TTV and change in TTV as response to systemic therapy were calculated using the CT scan before and the first after systemic treatment, and were assessed for their added prognostic value. The findings were validated in an external cohort of patients treated at a tertiary center. Results:In total, 215 CAIRO5 patients were included. Baseline TTV and absolute change in TTV were significantly associated with early recurrence (P = 0.005 and P = 0.040, respectively) and OS in multivariable analyses (P = 0.024 and P = 0.006, respectively), whereas RECIST1.1 was not prognostic for early recurrence (P = 0.88) and OS (P = 0.35). In the validation cohort (n = 85), baseline TTV and absolute change in TTV remained prognostic for early recurrence (P = 0.041 and P = 0.021, respectively) and OS in multivariable analyses (P < 0.0001 and P = 0.012, respectively), and showed added prognostic value over conventional clinicopathological variables (increase C-statistic, 0.06; 95 % CI, 0.02 to 0.14; P = 0.008). Conclusion: Total tumor volume is strongly prognostic for early recurrence and OS in patients who underwent complete local treatment of initially unresectable CRLM, both in the CAIRO5 trial and the validation cohort. In contrast, RECIST1.1 did not show prognostic value for neither early recurrence nor OS.</p
Allan Sandage and the Cosmic Expansion
This is an account of Allan Sandage's work on (1) The character of the
expansion field. For many years he has been the strongest defender of an
expanding Universe. He later explained the CMB dipole by a local velocity of
220 +/- 50 km/s toward the Virgo cluster and by a bulk motion of the Local
supercluster (extending out to ~3500 km/s) of 450-500 km/s toward an apex at
l=275, b=12. Allowing for these streaming velocities he found linear expansion
to hold down to local scales (~300 km/s). (2) The calibration of the Hubble
constant. Probing different methods he finally adopted - from
Cepheid-calibrated SNe Ia and from independent RR Lyr-calibrated TRGBs - H_0 =
62.3 +/- 1.3 +/- 5.0 km/s/Mpc.Comment: 12 pages, 11 figures, 1 table, Submitted to Astrophysics and Space

Report on consumer acceptability tests of NARITA hybrids in Tanzania and Uganda
Consumer acceptability tests of NARITA hybrids were conducted with a total of 572 randomly selected men and women farmers from 5 sites in different agro-ecological zones in Tanzania and Uganda (Maruku, Mitalula and Moshi in Tanzania; Kawanda and Mbarara in Uganda). Evaluations were done between July and November 2018 under the project âImprovement of banana for smallholder farmers in the Great Lakes Region of Africaâ. At each site, focus group discussions (FGDs) were first conducted with different age groups: young women, young men (35 years) to ascertain the main products households make using cooking banana cultivars and the preparation method. The most important product was then prepared in each site - steamed matooke in both Uganda sites and boiled fingers in all Tanzania sites. On a given day, about 100 farmers were each provided with coded samples of four NARITA hybrids plus one local check and asked to rate each sample on a 5-point hedonic scale for the following attributes: colour, aroma, texture in hand, taste, mouthfeel and overall acceptability. This report provides results that can help inform the selection of the best NARITAs to take on-farm and subsequent varietal release
