    Excitation of solitons in hexagonal lattices and ways of controlling electron transport

The final authenticated version is available online at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s40435-017-0383-x.We construct metastable long-living hexagonal lattices with appropriately modified Morse interactions and show that highly-energetic solitons may be excited moving along crystallographic axes. Studying the propagation, their dynamic changes and the relaxation processes it appears that lump solitons create in the lattice running local compressions. Based on the tight-binding model we investigate the possibility that electrons are trapped and guided by the electric polarization field of the compression field of one soliton or two solitons with crossing pathways. We show that electrons may jump from a bound state with the first soliton to a bound state with a second soliton and changing accordingly the direction of their path.     In order to cope with uncertainties present in the renewable energy generation, as well as in the demand consumer, we propose in this paper the formulation and comparison of three robust model predictive control techniques, i. i. e., multi-scenario, tree-based, and chance-constrained model predictive control, which are applied to a nonlinear plant-replacement model that corresponds to a real laboratory-scale plant located in the facilities of the University of Seville.     Real time Tritium concentrations in air in two chemical forms, HT and HTO, coming from an ITER-like fusion reactor as source were coupled the European Centre Medium Range Weather Forecast (ECMWF) numerical model with the Lagrangian Atmospheric-particle dispersion model FLEXPART. This tool was analyzed in nominal tritium discharge operational reference and selected incidental conditions affecting the Western Mediterranean Basin during 45 days during summer 2010 together with surface “wind observations” or weather data based in real hourly observations of wind direction and velocity providing a real approximation of the tritium behavior after the release to the atmosphere from a fusion reactor. From comparison with NORMTRI - a code using climatologically sequences as input - over the same area, the real time results have demonstrated an apparent overestimation of the corresponding climatologically sequence of Tritium concentrations in air outputs, at several distances from the reactor. For this purpose two development patterns were established. The first one was following a cyclonic circulation over the Mediterranean Sea and the second one was based on the plume delivered over the Interior of the Iberian Peninsula and Continental Europe by another stabilized circulation corresponding to a High Pressure System. One of the important remaining activities defined then, was the qualification tool. In order to validate the model of ECMWF/FLEXPART we have developed of a new complete data base of tritium concentrations for the months from November 2010 to March 2011 and defined a new set of four patterns of HT transport in air, in each case using real boundary conditions: stationary to the North, stationary to the South, fast and very fast displacement. Finally the differences corresponding to those four early patterns (each one in assessments 1 and 2) has been analyzed in terms of the tuning of safety related issues and taking into account the primary phase o- - f tritium modeling, from its discharge to the atmosphere to the deposition on the ground, will affect to the complete tritium environmental pathway altering the chronic dose by absorption, reemission and ingestion both from elemental tritium, HT and from the oxide of tritium, HT

    Stochastic pump of interacting particles

    We consider the overdamped motion of Brownian particles, interacting via particle exclusion, in an external potential that varies with time and space. We show that periodic potentials that maintain specific position-dependent phase relations generate time-averaged directed current of particles. We obtain analytic results for a lattice version of the model using a recently developed perturbative approach. Many interesting features like particle-hole symmetry, current reversal with changing density, and system-size dependence of current are obtained.     It is shown that, with the only exception of n=2n=2, the Einstein-Hilbert action in n+D+dn+D+d dimensions, with nn times, is invariant under the duality transformation a1aa\to \frac{1}{a} and b1bb\to \frac{1}{b}, where aa is a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker scale factor in DD dimensions and bb a Brans-Dicke scalar field in dd dimensions respectively.     Stunning pigs with different gas mixtures : Aversion in pigs

    The objective of this study was to assess the aversion to exposure of 90% argon, 70% N2/30% CO2 and 85% N2/15% CO 2 by volume in atmospheric air in 24 halothane-free slaughter-weight pigs using aversion learning techniques and behavioural studies in an experimental slaughterhouse. Pigs were subjected to the treatments individually during 2 separate trials of 12 animals each. The time of exposure to the gases was 46 and 32 s, respectively. When the pit contained any of the 3 gas mixtures, the time taken to cross the raceway and enter the cradle (TCREC) increased compared with the training sessions (atmospheric air). The incidence of pigs showing retreat and escape attempts and gasps and the number of times that this behaviour was performed was lower in 90% argon than in the gas mixtures with N2 and CO2. On the other hand, the time to loss of posture was lower with 70% N2/30% CO2 than with argon. The second exposure to all gas mixtures was more aversive than the first and the loss of posture also occurred earlier in the second exposure. In conclusion, pigs showed more aversion to gas mixtures with N2 and either 15% or 30% CO 2 by volume than 90% argon by volume

    Modeling heat stress under organic dairy farming conditions in warm temperate climates within the Mediterranean basin

    We studied the effect of heat stress on milk quality in Spanish organic dairy farms using published milk productivity equations. We collected data from 23 weather stations and 14,424 milk test-days for milk yield and milk fat and protein content for the period July 2011 to June 2013. As an indicator of heat stress, we used the maximum daily temperature–humidity index (THI) from 2 days before the milk test date. We fitted the data using hierarchical regression models stratified by farm, cow parity and monthly testday milk records. The effect of THI was deemed low on biological costs through milk yield. However, the known negative relationship between milk yield and milk quality (protein and fat content) became even steeper when the THI increased, suggesting a significant negative correlation between heat stress and milk quality. Therefore, although the milk yield of cows in the organic farming systems analyzed appeared resilient to heat stress conditions, milk quality, a major selling point for organic dairy products, was negatively affected.     Cryptanalysis and improvement of chen-hsiang-shih's remote user authentication scheme using smart cards

    Recently, Chen-Hsiang-Shih proposed a new dynamic ID-based remote user authentication scheme. The authors claimed that their scheme was more secure than previous works. However, this paper demonstrates that theirscheme is still unsecured against different kinds of attacks. In order to enhance the security of the scheme proposed by Chen-Hsiang-Shih, a new scheme is proposed. The scheme achieves the following security goals: without verification table, each user chooses and changes the password freely, each user keeps the password secret, mutual authentication, the scheme establishes a session key after successful authentication, and the scheme maintains the user's anonymity. Security analysis and comparison demonstrate that the proposed scheme is more secure than Das-Saxena-Gulati's scheme, Wang et al.'s scheme and Chen-Hsiang-Shih.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
