The focus is on a particular type of business model, defined Product-Service Systems (PSSs), characterised by an integrated product-service offering, but can be generalised to other business model innovations. The paper presents a visualisation system based on a formalised business model ontology and a set of visualisation tools, and discusses how it can be used to enhance internal and external communication and improve dialogue and co-design activities inside the company and with external stakeholders

Beam Dynamics Studies and Design Optimisation of New Low Energy Antiproton Facilities

    Get PDF
Antiprotons, stored and cooled at low energies in a storage ring or at rest in traps, are highly desirable for the investigation of a large number of basic questions on fundamental interactions. This includes the static structure of antiprotonic atomic systems and the time-dependent quantum dynamics of correlated systems. The Antiproton Decelerator (AD) at CERN is currently the worlds only low energy antiproton factory dedicated to antimatter experiments. New antiproton facilities, such as the Extra Low ENergy Antiproton ring (ELENA) at CERN and the Ultra-low energy Storage Ring (USR) at FLAIR, will open unique possibilities. They will provide cooled, high quality beams of extra-low energy antiprotons at intensities exceeding those achieved presently at the AD by factors of ten to one hundred. These facilities, operating in the energy regime between 100 keV down to 20 keV, face several design and beam dynamics challenges, for example nonlinearities, space charge and scattering effects limiting beam life time. Detailed investigations into the low energy and long term beam dynamics have been carried out to address many of those challenges towards the design optimisation. Results from these studies are presented in this contribution, showing some examples for ELENA.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, 12th International Conference on Low Energy Antiproton Physics, LEAP 2016. Multiferroic BiFeO3-BiMnO3 Nanocheckerboard From First Principles

We present a first principles study of an unusual heterostructure, an atomic-scale checkerboard of BiFeO3-BiMnO3, and compare its properties to the two bulk constituent materials, BiFeO3 and BiMnO3. The "nanocheckerboard" is found to have a multiferroic ground state with the desired properties of each constituent: polar and ferrimagnetic due to BiFeO3 and BiMnO3, respectively. The effect of B-site cation ordering on magnetic ordering in the BiFeO3-BiMnO3 system is studied. The checkerboard geometry is seen to give rise to a a novel magnetostructural effect that is neither present in the bulk constituent materials, nor in the layered BiFeO3-BiMnO3 superlattice.Comment: 15 pages, 14 figure

    Density-functional theory of polar insulators

    Get PDF
We examine the density-functional theory of macroscopic insulators, obtained in the large-cluster limit or under periodic boundary conditions. For polar crystals, we find that the two procedures are not equivalent. In a large-cluster case, the exact exchange-correlation potential acquires a homogeneous ``electric field'' which is absent from the usual local approximations, and the Kohn-Sham electronic system becomes metallic. With periodic boundary conditions, such a field is forbidden, and the polarization deduced from Kohn-Sham wavefunctions is incorrect even if the exact functional is used

DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE OF INTRA-TRAIN FEEDBACK SYSTEMS AT ATF2

    Get PDF
The major goals of the final focus test beam line facility ATF2 are to provide electron beams with a few tens of nanometer beam sizes and beam stability control at the nanometer level. In order to achieve such a level of stability beam-based feedback systems are necessary at different timescales to correct static and dynamic effects. In particular, we present the design of intra-train feedback systems to correct the impact of fast jitter sources. We study a bunchto- bunch feedback system installed in the extraction line to combat the ring extraction transverse jitters. In addition, we design a bunch-to-bunch feedback system at the interaction point for correction of position jitter due to the fast vibration of the magnets in the final focus. Optimum feedback software algorithms are discussed and simulation results are presented

Strong influence of the complex bandstructure on the tunneling electroresistance: A combined model and ab-initio study

The tunneling electroresistance (TER) for ferroelectric tunnel junctions (FTJs) with BaTiO_{3} (BTO) and PbTiO}_{3} (PTO) barriers is calculated by combining the microscopic electronic structure of the barrier material with a macroscopic model for the electrostatic potential which is caused by the ferroelectric polarization. The TER ratio is investigated in dependence on the intrinsic polarization, the chemical potential, and the screening properties of the electrodes. A change of sign in the TER ratio is obtained for both barrier materials in dependence on the chemical potential. The inverse imaginary Fermi velocity describes the microscopic origin of this effect; it qualitatively reflects the variation and the sign reversal of the TER. The quantity of the imaginary Fermi velocity allows to obtain detailed information on the transport properties of FTJs by analyzing the complex bandstructure of the barrier material.Comment: quality of figures reduce

Dynamical-charge neutrality at a crystal surface

    Get PDF
For both molecules and periodic solids, the ionic dynamical charge tensors which govern the infrared activity are known to obey a dynamical neutrality condition. This condition enforces their sum to vanish (over the whole finite system, or over the crystal cell, respectively). We extend this sum rule to the non trivial case of the surface of a semiinfinite solid and show that, in the case of a polar surface of an insulator, the surface ions cannot have the same dynamical charges as in the bulk. The sum rule is demonstrated through calculations for the Si-terminated SiC(001) surface.Comment: 4 pages, latex file, 1 postscript figure automatically include

Analysis of genetic relationships among Muscat grapevines in Apulia (South Italy) by RAPD markers

    Get PDF
Two hundred 10-mer primers of arbitrary nucleotide sequence were used to study the genetic relationships among Muscat grapevines in Apulia. The coefficients of similarity of these genotypes were determined with 484 polymorphic RAPD bands (profiles). The bootstrap sampling analysis revealed that the number of RAPD bands was suitable to estimate the coefficients of similarity. The pattern of aggregation among genotypes (cluster analysis, principal coordinate analysis) indicates a diversity among the Muscats in Apulia except for Moscato Reale and Moscato Canelli, which were closely related
