Transition of D- Level Quantum Systems Through Quantum Channels with Correlated Noise

Entanglement and entanglement-assisted are useful resources to enhance the mutual information of the Pauli channels, when the noise on consecutive uses of the channel has some partial correlations. In this Paper, we study quantum-communication channels in dd-dimensional systems and derive the mutual information of the quantum channels for maximally entangled states and product states coding with correlated noise. Then, we compare fidelity between these states. Our results show that there exists a certain fidelity memory threshold which depends on the dimension of the Hilbert space (d)(d) and the properties of noisy channels. We calculate the classical capacity of a particular correlated noisy channel and show that in order to achieve Holevo limit, we must use dd particles with dd degrees of freedom. Our results show that entanglement is a useful means to enhance the mutual information. We choose a special non-maximally entangled state and show that in the quasi-classical depolarizing and quantum depolarizing channels, maximum classical capacity in the higher memory channels is given by the maximally entangled state. Hence, our results show that for high error channels in every degree of memory, maximally entangled states have better mutual information.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figures, PHYSICAL REVIEW A 75, 042301 (2007

    Get PDF
The aims of the present study were to determine presence of immunoreactive progestins in feces, correlate fecal progestins with plasma progesterone (P4) concentrations and subsequently assess the role of fecal progestins in monitoring estrous cycle in Kedah Kelantan (KK) beef cows. A total of 12 cycling cows were subjected to blood and matched fecal sampling twice a week for 9 weeks. The concentrations of plasma P4 and fecal progestins extracted using a modified technique, were determined by a P4 radioimmunoassay (RIA) kit. There was a significant positive correlation between the concentrations of fecal progestins and plasma P4 (r = 0.6, P<0.01), as tested for the whole group except one animal. High performance liquid chromatographic separation of fecal extracts and subsequent radioimmunoassay revealed presence of four immunoreactive progestins against the P4 antibodies. These results imply that the non-invasive measure of fecal progestins using a DSL-3900 RIA kit can be used to monitor the ovarian activity in beef cows

Background:Liver cirrhosis causes changes in cardiovascular system. Electrographic (ECG) abnormality commonly found in cirrhosis patients is QT interval prolongation. It is part of cirrhotic cardiomyopathy. QTc interval prolongation is correlated to the incidence of life-threatening arrhythmias. The objective of this study was to recognize the correlation between the severity of liver cirrhosis and QTc interval prolongation in patients with liver cirrhosis at Sardjito General Hospital, Jogjakarta.Method: The design of this study was cross-sectional. The subjects were hospitalized patients with liver cirrhosis at the Department of Internal Medicine, Sardjito Hospital, Jogjakarta between January 2011 and March 2012. ECG was performed in all patients and QTc interval was measured. The severity of liver cirrhosis was determined by Child-Pugh score. Spearman correlation analysis was used to determine the correlation between variables of QTc interval prolongation and Child-Pugh score. Results: A total of 73 patients were enrolled, including 51 (69.9%) male and 22 (31.1%) female patients with mean age of 54.05 ± 12.55 years (range 20-80). Liver cirrhosis was caused by hepatitis B virus in 36 (49.3%) patients, hepatitis C virus in 20 (27.4%) patients and other causes in 19 (26%) patients. The Child-Pugh score for liver cirrhosis was found as follows: child A in 10 (13.6%) patients, child B in 27 (36.9%) patients and child C in 36 (49.3%) patients. The correlation between the severity of liver cirrhosis and QTc interval prolongation was weak (r = 0.255; p = 0.029).Conclusion:Severity of liver cirrhosis has a weak positive correlation with QTc interval prolongation

Sect and House in Syria: History, Architecture, and Bayt Amongst the Druze in Jaramana

    Get PDF
This paper explores the connections between the architecture and materiality of houses and the social idiom of bayt (house, family). The ethnographic exploration is located in the Druze village of Jaramana, on the outskirts of the Syrian capital Damascus. It traces the histories, genealogies, and politics of two families, bayt Abud-Haddad and bayt Ouward, through their houses. By exploring the two families and the architecture of their houses, this paper provides a detailed ethnographic account of historical change in modern Syria, internal diversity, and stratification within the intimate social fabric of the Druze neighbourhood at a time of war, and contributes a relational approach to the anthropological understanding of houses

Current therapy-regimens against Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infections have considerable failure rates and adverse side effects that urge the quest for an effective alternative therapy. We have shown that curcumin is capable of eradicating Hp-infection in mice. Here we examine the mechanism by which curcumin protects Hp infection in cultured cells and mice. Since, MMP-3 and -9 are inflammatory molecules associated to the pathogenesis of Hp-infection, we investigated the role of curcumin on inflammatory MMPs as well as proinflammatory molecules. Curcumin dose dependently suppressed MMP-3 and -9 expression in Hp infected human gastric epithelial (AGS) cells. Consistently, Hp-eradication by curcumin-therapy involved significant downregulation of MMP-3 and -9 activities and expression in both cytotoxic associated gene (cag)+ve and cag-ve Hp-infected mouse gastric tissues. Moreover, we demonstrate that the conventional triple therapy (TT) alleviated MMP-3 and -9 activities less efficiently than curcumin and curcumin's action on MMPs was linked to decreased pro-inflammatory molecules and activator protein-1 activation in Hp-infected gastric tissues. Although both curcumin and TT were associated with MMP-3 and -9 downregulation during Hp-eradication, but unlike TT, curcumin enhanced peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ and inhibitor of kappa B-α. These data indicate that curcumin-mediated healing of Hp-infection involves regulation of MMP-3 and -9 activities

Purpose: Sperm DNA fragmentation (SDF) testing was recently added to the sixth edition of the World Health Organization laboratory manual for the examination and processing of human semen. Many conditions and risk factors have been associated with elevated SDF; therefore, it is important to identify the population of infertile men who might benefit from this test. The purpose of this study was to investigate global practices related to indications for SDF testing, compare the relevant professional society guideline recommendations, and provide expert recommendations. Materials and Methods: Clinicians managing male infertility were invited to take part in a global online survey on SDF clinical practices. This was conducted following the CHERRIES checklist criteria. The responses were compared to professional society guideline recommendations related to SDF and the appropriate available evidence. Expert recommendations on indications for SDF testing were then formulated, and the Delphi method was used to reach consensus. Results: The survey was completed by 436 experts from 55 countries. Almost 75% of respondents test for SDF in all or some men with unexplained or idiopathic infertility, 39% order it routinely in the work-up of recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL), and 62.2% investigate SDF in smokers. While 47% of reproductive urologists test SDF to support the decision for varicocele repair surgery when conventional semen parameters are normal, significantly fewer general urologists (23%; p=0.008) do the same. Nearly 70% would assess SDF before assisted reproductive technologies (ART), either always or for certain conditions. Recurrent ART failure is a common indication for SDF testing. Very few society recommendations were found regarding SDF testing. Conclusions: This article presents the largest global survey on the indications for SDF testing in infertile men, and demonstrates diverse practices. Furthermore, it highlights the paucity of professional society guideline recommendations. Expert recommendations are proposed to help guide clinicians
