Gravitational Geometric Phase in the Presence of Torsion

We investigate the relativistic and non-relativistic quantum dynamics of a neutral spin-1/2 particle submitted an external electromagnetic field in the presence of a cosmic dislocation. We analyze the explicit contribution of the torsion in the geometric phase acquired in the dynamic of this neutral spinorial particle. We discuss the influence of the torsion in the relativistic geometric phase. Using the Foldy-Wouthuysen approximation, the non-relativistic quantum dynamics are studied and the influence of the torsion in the Aharonov-Casher and He-McKellar-Wilkens effects are discussed.Comment: 14 pages, no figur

ANÁLISE DOS LIMITES E POSSIBILIDADES DA ORDEM PÚBLICA PROCESSUAL NA HOMOLOGAÇÃO DE SENTENÇA ESTRANGEIRA PELO STJ

Para que a sentença estrangeira seja reconhecida e tenha eficácia no Brasil, em regra, e independentemente do país em que tenha sido proferida, depende de um juízo de delibação, cuja competência, hoje, é atribuída ao STJ, desde que preenchidos certos requisitos estabelecidos nos artigos 15 a 17 da LINDB, reproduzidos, com pequenas alterações, nos artigos 5º e 6º da Resolução 9/2005 do STJ. Dentre os requisitos cuja observância é exigida para futura homologação encontra-se o instituto da ordem pública. Uma das matérias que se busca demonstrar ao longo deste trabalho é a necessidade de se estabelecer contornos mais precisos do que se entende por ordem pública processual quando da homologação de decisões estrangeiras pelo STJ, observando, para tanto, os limites desse mesmo instituto tanto no âmbito do direito interno como no âmbito do direito internacional

Dientes de Abelisauridae y Carcharodontosauridae cf. (Theropoda, Dinosauria) del Campaniano-Maastrichtiano Formación Presidente Prudente (Suroeste Provincia de São Paulo, Brasil)

Isolated theropod teeth referable to Abelisauridae indet., and Carcharodontosauridae cf., from the Campanian-Maastrichtian Presidente Prudente Formation of the western São Paulo State, Brazil, are described. They are compared to the Late Cretaceous Gondwanan theropod dinosaur teeth and their affinities are discussed. These teeth are significant because carnivorous dinosaur remains are poorly known from the Late Cretaceous beds of Western São Paulo State except for a few isolated elements.Se describen dientes aislados de terópodos referidos a Abelisauridae indet. y Carcharodontosauridae cf., procedentes de la Formación Presidente Prudente del Campaniano-Maastrichtiano, en el oeste del estado de San Pablo, Brasil. Los materiales son comparados con dientes de dinosaurios gondwánicos del Cretácico tardío, y cuyas afinidades son aquí discutidas. Estos dientes de dinosaurios carnívoros son significativos debido a que su presencia es pobremente conocida en el Cretácico tardío del oeste del estado del San Pablo, excepto por unos pocos huesos

Human Mobility in Large Cities as a Proxy for Crime

We investigate at the subscale of the neighborhoods of a highly populated city the incidence of property crimes in terms of both the resident and the floating population. Our results show that a relevant allometric relation could only be observed between property crimes and floating population. More precisely, the evidence of a superlinear behavior indicates that a disproportional number of property crimes occurs in regions where an increased flow of people takes place in the city. For comparison, we also found that the number of crimes of peace disturbance only correlates well, and in a superlinear fashion too, with the resident population. Our study raises the interesting possibility that the superlinearity observed in previous studies [Bettencourt et al., Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 104, 7301 (2007) and Melo et al., Sci. Rep. 4, 6239 (2014)] for homicides versus population at the city scale could have its origin in the fact that the floating population, and not the resident one, should be taken as the relevant variable determining the intrinsic microdynamical behavior of the system.Comment: 17 pages, 8 Figure

Review of Small Cell Carcinomas of the Prostate

Small cell carcinoma of the prostate is a rare neoplasm, with only a few series hitherto reported. A little less than half of the cases are associated with conventional acinar adenocarcinoma, which are usually high grade. Although consensus has not been reached, the majority of patients with small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the prostate have advanced disease at diagnosis and disproportionally low PSA levels compared to patients with conventional acinar adenocarcinoma. Treatment consists mainly of chemotherapy associated with surgery. Radiation therapy is reserved for selected cases. NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF A ELASTO-VISCOPLASTIC FLUID FLOW INSIDE A CAVITY

This article addresses finite element approximations for elasto-viscoplastic flows. Numerical simulations aiming at investigating the role of elasticity for inertialess flows of viscoplastic materials within lid-driven cavity.The mechanical model is made up of the usual governing equations for incompressible fluids coupled with a Oldroyd-B type equation (de Souza Mendes, 2011) modified to incorporate the dependency both of relaxation and retardation time as the viscoplastic viscosity on the strain rate. These parameters depend on the material microstructure, which level is described by an structure parameter . This model is approximated by a multi-field Galerkin least-squares formulation (Behr et al., 1993) in terms of extra-stress tensor, the pressure field and the velocity vector. Castanha na roça: sinergia entre agricultura e extrativismo em uma unidade de conservação de uso sustentável - RESEX Cajari.

Este trabalho busca evidenciar a sinergia entre agricultura e extrativismo, demonstrando que existe um potencial produtivo de castanha da amazônia em áreas de roças e capoeiras provenientes da agricultura itinerante, que podem ser conduzidas como sistemas agroflorestais (SAFs). A partir do levantamento realizado em 14 comunidades da RESEX, foram inventariadas 90 áreas provenientes da agricultura com diferentes períodos de pousio. Dessas, 42 são capoeiras "abandonadas" e 48 são áreas que foram selecionadas, em 2012, para a agricultura. Nessas áreas foram encontradas 1.445 castanheiras (cast), a maior parte jovens, gerando uma densidade aproximada de 13 cast ha-1. A densidade nas capoeiras abandonadas foi de 17 cast ha-1 e nas capoeiras em cultivo foi de 8 cast ha1, confirmando que os castanheiros optam por colocar a roça em áreas com menor regeneração de castanheiras. Do total de castanheiras inventariadas, 7,4% são comprovadamente produtivas e muitas ainda não produzem frutos, mas já apresentam floração. Em algumas dessas áreas de capoeiras, os castanheiros já fazem a coleta dos ouriços. A interação, bem como a troca de conhecimento com os agroextrativistas, proporcionou uma compreensão melhor da realidade local e facilitou a realização do trabalho. A maior densidade de regenerações de castanheiras e maior crescimento nas áreas usadas para agricultura itinerante, do que dentro na floresta madura, justifica o manejo dessas áreas como se fossem SAFs, com a manutenção das castanheiras jovens no meio do roçado para formação de futuros castanhais
