On the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn sum rule for the deuteron
The Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn sum rule is evaluated for the deuteron by explicit
integration up to 550 MeV including contributions from the photodisintegration
channel and from coherent and incoherent single pion production as well. The
photodisintegration channel converges fast enough in this energy range and
gives a large negative contribution, essentially from the resonant
state near threshold. Its absolute value is about the same size as the sum of
proton and neutron GDH values. It is only partially cancelled by the single
pion production contribution. But the incoherent channel has not reached

Effect of pressure cycling on Iron: Signatures of an electronic instability and unconventional superconductivity
High pressure electrical resistivity and x-ray diffraction experiments have
been performed on Fe single crystals. The crystallographic investigation
provides direct evidence that in the martensitic
transition at 14 GPa the become the directions. During a pressure cycle, resistivity shows a
broad hysteresis of 6.5 GPa, whereas superconductivity, observed between 13 and
31 GPa, remains unaffected. Upon increasing pressure an electronic instability,
probably a quantum critical point, is observed at around 19 GPa and, close to
this pressure, the superconducting and the isothermal resistivity
(K) attain maximum values. In the superconducting pressure domain,
the exponent of the temperature power law of resistivity and its
prefactor, which mimics , indicate that ferromagnetic fluctuations may
provide the glue for the Cooper pairs, yielding unconventional
superconductivity
Assessment of the U and Co magnetic moments in UCoGe by X-ray magnetic circular dichroism
The ferromagnetic superconductor UCoGe has been investigated by high field
X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) at the U-M and Co/Ge-K edges.
The analysis of the branching ratio and XMCD at the U-M edges reveals
that the U-5 electrons count is close to 3. The orbital ()
and spin () moments of U at 2.1K and 17T (H//c) have been
determined. Their ratio () suggests a significant delocalization of
the 5 electron states. The similar field dependences of the local U/Co and
the macroscopic magnetization indicate that the Co moment is induced by the U
moment. The XMCD at the Co/Ge-K edges reveal the presence of small Co-4 and
Ge-4 orbital moments parallel to the macroscopic magnetization. In addition,
the Co-3 moment is estimated to be at most of the order of 0.1 at
17T. Our results rule out the possibility of an unusual polarisability of the U
and Co moments as well as their antiparallel coupling. We conclude that the
magnetism which mediates the superconductivity in UCoGe is driven by U.Comment: 4 figures + supplementary materia
The Josephson critical current in a long mesoscopic S-N-S junction
We carry out an extensive experimental and theoretical study of the Josephson
effect in S-N-S junctions made of a diffusive normal metal (N) embedded between
two superconducting electrodes (S). Our experiments are performed on Nb-Cu-Nb
junctions with highly-transparent interfaces. We give the predictions of the
quasiclassical theory in various regimes on a precise and quantitative level.
We describe the crossover between the short and the long junction regimes and
provide the temperature dependence of the critical current using dimensionless
units and where
is the Thouless energy. Experimental and theoretical results are in excellent

Zusammenfassung: Autonomes Nervensystem und Herzfrequenzvariabilität: Sowohl eine Dysregulation des autonomen Nervensystems (ANS) als auch die Menopause sind mit einem erhöhten kardiovaskulären Risiko verbunden. Das kardiale ANS kann anhand der Herzfrequenzvariabilität (HRV) beurteilt und in Frequenzspektren aufgespalten werden, die sich dem Parasympathikus- und/oder Sympathikuseinfluss zuordnen lassen. Einfluss der endokrinen Lebensphasen: Bereits während des Menstruationszyklus zeigt sich eine zyklusabhängige Fluktuation der HRV. Mit dem menopausalen Östrogenabfall ist ein Anstieg des Sympathikotonus mit HRV-Reduktion verbunden, was mit einem erhöhten kardiovaskulären Risiko einhergeht. Das mit menopausalen Hitzewallungen verbundene erhöhte kardiovaskuläre Erkrankungsrisiko ist möglicherweise ebenso auf eine Sympathikusaktivierung zurückzuführen. Therapie: Eine Hormonersatztherapie vermag eventuell eine Wiederherstellung der autonomen Balance herbeizuführe
Quasifree pion photoproduction on the deuteron in the region
Photo production of pions on the deuteron is studied in the spectator nucleon
model. The Born terms of the elementary production amplitude are determined in
pseudovector N coupling and supplied with a form factor. The
resonance is considered both in the and the channel. The parameters of
the resonance and the cutoff of the form factors are fixed on the
leading photoproduction multipoles. Results for total and differential cross
sections are compared with experimental data. Particular attention is paid to
the role of Pauli correlations of the final state nucleons in the quasifree
case. The results are compared with those for pion photoproduction on the

Crossover from weak to strong coupling regime in dispersive circuit QED
We study the decoherence of a superconducting qubit due to the dispersive
coupling to a damped harmonic oscillator. We go beyond the weak
qubit-oscillator coupling, which we associate with a phase Purcell effect, and
enter into a strong coupling regime, with qualitatively different behavior of
the dephasing rate. We identify and give a physicaly intuitive discussion of
both decoherence mechanisms. Our results can be applied, with small
adaptations, to a large variety of other physical systems, e. g. trapped ions
and cavity QED, boosting theoretical and experimental decoherence studies.Comment: Published versio
On the extraction of electromagnetic properties of the Delta(1232) excitation from pion photoproduction
Several methods for the treatment of pion photoproduction in the region of
the Delta(1232) resonance are discussed, in particular the effective Lagrangian
approach and the speed plot analysis are compared to a dynamical treatment. As
a main topic, we discuss the extraction of the genuine resonance parts of the
magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole multipoles of the electromagnetic
excitation of the resonance. To this end, we try to relate the various values
for the ratio R_{EM} of the E2 to M1 multipole excitation strengths for the
Delta(1232) resonance as extracted by the different methods to corresponding
ratios of a dynamical model. Moreover, it is confirmed that all methods for
extracting resonance properties suffer from an unitary ambiguity which is due
