An Offering on the Altar of Queer History: Amalia Mesa-Bains and Sor Juana’s Library

    Get PDF
This paper argues that home altars are archives. I consider the history of altars within Chicana community practices; political, and feminist critique of both patriarchal nationalism; and the role of the altar in challenging the public and private divide defined by nationalist discourses of the US and Aztlan. Furthermore, I use Amalia Mesa-Bains’s altar installation The Library of Sor Juana Inez de la Cruz to consider how altars are spaces of feminist queer memory-making and resistance against colonial logics

Educational Management System: Using In-Depth Interviews to Identify Effects in Management Style During International Sanctions in Uncertain Times

This study looked into the impact of management style and factors that affect the future of the educational system by conducting in-depth interviews with seven different key stakeholders who work for UrFU and are involved with GSEM faculty and/or international affairs. The author suggests a PEST analysis, which is made up of several factors that affect the business environment, based on themes that the interviewer discovered

Educational Management System: Reputation Analysis and Social Listening of Study in Russia “Estudiar En Rusia”

The relevance of this research topic lies in the fact that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has affected various aspects of life including the sphere of education. H1: The Ukrainian conflict damaged Russian’s academic credibilitywith the Western countries. H2: Due to the influence of the rating sites on LatinAmerican countries, they do not consider Russia as a potential study destination. In order to prove it two content analysissoftware that are freely available onlineare used to conduct the reputation analysis. 69 articles or publications that mentioned "Estudiar en Rusia" (Study in Russia) between February 2022 and January 2023 were studied in this paper

Unveiling Interfacial Li-Ion Dynamics in Li7La3Zr2O12/PEO(LiTFSI) Composite Polymer-Ceramic Solid Electrolytes for All-Solid-State Lithium Batteries

Unlocking the full potential of solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) is key to enabling safer and more-energy dense technologies than today’s Li-ion batteries. In particular, composite materials comprising a conductive, flexible polymer matrix embedding ceramic filler particles are emerging as a good strategy to provide the combination of conductivity and mechanical and chemical stability demanded from SSEs. However, the electrochemical activity of these materials strongly depends on their polymer/ceramic interfacial Li-ion dynamics at the molecular scale, whose fundamental understanding remains elusive. While this interface has been explored for nonconductive ceramic fillers, atomistic modeling of interfaces involving a potentially more promising conductive ceramic filler is still lacking. We address this shortfall by employing molecular dynamics and enhanced Monte Carlo techniques to gain unprecedented insights into the interfacial Li-ion dynamics in a composite polymer-ceramic electrolyte, which integrates polyethylene oxide plus LiN(CF3SO2)2 lithium imide salt (LiTFSI), and Li-ion conductive cubic Li7La3Zr2O12 (LLZO) inclusions. Our simulations automatically produce the interfacial Li-ion distribution assumed in space-charge models and, for the first time, a long-range impact of the garnet surface on the Li-ion diffusivity is unveiled. Based on our calculations and experimental measurements of tensile strength and ionic conductivity, we are able to explain a previously reported drop in conductivity at a critical filler fraction well below the theoretical percolation threshold. Our results pave the way for the computational modeling of other conductive filler/polymer combinations and the rational design of composite SSEs.-Juan de la Cierva grant IJC2018-037214-I, -PID2019-106519RB-I00, as -HPC-Europa3 grant HPC17ERWTO -AI in BCAM, EXP. 2019/004

Enigmatic amphibians in mid-Cretaceous amber were chameleon-like ballistic feeders

Albanerpetontids are tiny, enigmatic fossil amphibians with a distinctive suite of characteristics, including scales and specialized jaw and neck joints. Here we describe a new genus and species of albanerpetontid, represented by fully articulated and three-dimensional specimens preserved in amber. These specimens preserve skeletal and soft tissues, including an elongated median hyoid element, the tip of which remains embedded in a distal tongue pad. This arrangement is very similar to the long, rapidly projecting tongue of chameleons. Our results thus suggest that albanerpetontids were sit-and-wait ballistic tongue feeders, extending the record of this specialized feeding mode by around 100 million years

Experimental investigation of the impact of optical injection on vital parameters of a gain-switched pulse source

An analysis of optical injection on a gain-switched distributed feedback (DFB) laser and its impact on pulse parameters that influence the performance of the pulse source in high-speed optical communication systems is presented in this paper. A range of 10 GHz in detuning and 5 dB in injected power has been experimentally identified to attain pulses, from an optically injected gain-switched DFB laser, with durations below 10 ps and pedestal suppression higher than 35 dB. These pulse features are associated with a side mode suppression ratio of about 30 dB and a timing jitter of less than 1 ps. This demonstrates the feasibility of using optical injection in conjunction with appropriate pulse compression schemes for developing an optimized and cost-efficient pulse source, based on a gain-switched DFB laser, for high-speed photonic systems
