    On the discovery of doubly-magic 48^{48}Ni

    The paper reports on the first observation of doubly-magic Nickel-48 in an experimental at the SISSI/LISE3 facility of GANIL. Four Nickel-48 isotopes were identified. In addition, roughly 100 Nickel-49, 50 Iron-45, and 290 Chromium-42 isotopes were observed.     Magnetic transport in a straight parabolic channel

    We study a charged two-dimensional particle confined to a straight parabolic-potential channel and exposed to a homogeneous magnetic field under influence of a potential perturbation WW. If WW is bounded and periodic along the channel, a perturbative argument yields the absolute continuity of the bottom of the spectrum. We show it can have any finite number of open gaps provided the confining potential is sufficiently strong. However, if WW depends on the periodic variable only, we prove by Thomas argument that the whole spectrum is absolutely continuous, irrespectively of the size of the perturbation. On the other hand, if WW is small and satisfies a weak localization condition in the the longitudinal direction, we prove by Mourre method that a part of the absolutely continuous spectrum persists

    Proton drip-line nuclei in Relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory

    Ground-state properties of spherical even-even nuclei 14Z2814\leq Z \leq 28 and N=18,20,22N=18,20,22 are described in the framework of Relativistic Hartree Bogoliubov (RHB) theory. The model uses the NL3 effective interaction in the mean-field Lagrangian, and describes pairing correlations by the pairing part of the finite range Gogny interaction D1S. Binding energies, two-proton separation energies, and proton rmsrms radii that result from fully self-consistent RHB solutions are compared with experimental data. The model predicts the location of the proton drip-line. The isospin dependence of the effective spin-orbit potential is discussed, as well as pairing properties that result from the finite range interaction in the pppp channel.Comment: 12 pages, RevTex, 10 p.s figures, submitted to Phys.     Genetic divergence in basil cultivars and hybrids.

    Basil is an aromatic herb that stands out fo its economic importance. It is consumed in natura and sed to obtain essential oil. The cultivation of this species in several regions of the world has allowed variations by natural crosses and euploidy, leading to the wide genetic variability found nowadays. Considering the importance of this species, we aimed to analyze the genetic diversity of 27 basil genotypes using ISSR molecular markers. Fourteen primers were employed for DNA amplification, resulting in 86% polymorphism. Based on the Jaccard?s dissimilarity index, the highest index (0.80) was observed between the individuals BAS001 and BAS012, while the lowest index (0.18) was detected between the genotypes BAS014 and BAS015. The genetic similarity among individuals was calculated, forming four distinct clusters. Most individuals (40.7%) were allocated in cluster I. The polymorphic information content (PIC) (0.89) indicated considerable levels of genetic diversity among genotypes. In this sense, the ISSR markers were efficient in the detection of polymorphisms between the accessions, suggesting the genetic variability of the collection. This result demonstrates the importance of the use of molecular markers and the advantages that this information provides to the breeding of the species. O manjericão é uma erva aromática que se destaca por possuir importância econômica. É consumido in natura e também utilizado na obtenção de óleo essencial. O cultivo desta espécie em diversas regiões do mundo permitiu que surgissem variações mediante cru-zamentos naturais e euploidia, ocasionando a ampla variabilidade genética existente. Considerando a importância desta espécie, este trabalho teve como objetivo analisar a diversidade genética de 27 genótipos de manjericão usando marcadores moleculares ISSR. Qua-torze primers foram utilizados para amplificação do DNA, resultando em 86% de polimorfismo. Com base no índice de dissimilaridade de Jaccard, observou-se o maior índice (0,80) entre os indivíduos BAS001 e BAS012, enquanto que o menor índice de dissimilari-dade (0,18) foi detectado entre os genótipos BAS014 e BAS015. A semelhança genética entre indivíduos foi calculada, formando quatro grupos distintos. A maioria dos indivíduos (40,7%) foi agrupada no grupo I. O conteúdo de informação polimórfica (PIC) (0,89) indicou níveis consideráveis de diversidade genética entre os genótipos. Neste sentido, os marcadores ISSR foram eficientes na detecção de polimorfismos entre os acessos e confirmaram que é possível inferir a variabilidade genética na coleção. Isso demonstra a importância do uso de marcadores moleculares e as vantagens que esta informação pode oferecer ao melhoramento genético das espécies

    The beta-decay of 22Al

    In an experiment performed at the LISE3 facility of GANIL, we studied the decay of 22Al produced by the fragmentation of a 36Ar primary beam. A beta-decay half-life of 91.1 +- 0.5 ms was measured. The beta-delayed one- and two-proton emission as well as beta-alpha and beta-delayed gamma decays were measured and allowed us to establish a partial decay scheme for this nucleus. New levels were determined in the daughter nucleus 22Mg. The comparison with model calculations strongly favours a spin-parity of 4+ for the ground state of 22Al

    Maximizacao da exploracao da soja (Glycine max (L.) Merrill). XII. Efeito de sistemas de corte e cultivares na producao de feno.

    O objetivo do presente trabalho foi verificar a influencia de sistemas de corte sobre a producao de feno de diferentes cultivares de soja (Glycine max (L.)Merrill). O ensaio foi instalado no ano agricola de 1988/89, no campus da Universidade Federal de Lavras, Lavras, MG, em Latossolo Roxo Distrofico. Usou-se o delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados, com tres repeticoes, em esquema fatorial 5 x 2, envolvendo cinco cultivares de soja (Cristalina, Numbaira, IAC-8, UFV-7 e UFV-10) e dois sistemas de corte (um corte e dois cortes). As cultivares Cristalina e UFV-10 produziram maior quantidade de massa verde, feno e proteina bruta. A cultivar Cristalina apresenta maior capacidade de rebrota do que a 'UFV-10'. O sistema de dois cortes proporcionou aumentos significativos nos rendimentos de proteina bruta, potassio, calcio e magnesio

    Probabilistic cellular automata with conserved quantities

    We demonstrate that the concept of a conservation law can be naturally extended from deterministic to probabilistic cellular automata (PCA) rules. The local function for conservative PCA must satisfy conditions analogous to conservation conditions for deterministic cellular automata. Conservation condition for PCA can also be written in the form of a current conservation law. For deterministic nearest-neighbour CA the current can be computed exactly. Local structure approximation can partially predict the equilibrium current for non-deterministic cases. For linear segments of the fundamental diagram it actually produces exact results.Comment: 17 pages, 2 figure
