    Currently, the data and variables of a control system are the most important elements to be safeguarded in an industrial network, so it is vitally important to ensure their safety. This paper presents the design and simulation of a demilitarized network (DMZ) using firewalls to control access to all the information that is stored in the servers of the industrial network of the Hermanos DĂ­az Refinery in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. In addition, the characteristics, configurations, methods, and rules of DMZs and firewalls are shown, select the configuration with three multi-legged firewalls as the most appropriate for our application, since it allows efficient exchange of data guaranteeing security and avoiding the violation of the control system. Finally, the simulation of the proposed network is carried out

    Thy-1 (CD90)-Induced Metastatic Cancer Cell Migration and Invasion Are ÎČ3 Integrin-Dependent and Involve a Ca<sup>2+</sup>/P2X7 Receptor Signaling Axis.

    Cancer cell adhesion to the vascular endothelium is an important step in tumor metastasis. Thy-1 (CD90), a cell adhesion molecule expressed in activated endothelial cells, has been implicated in melanoma metastasis by binding to integrins present in cancer cells. However, the signaling pathway(s) triggered by this Thy-1-Integrin interaction in cancer cells remains to be defined. Our previously reported data indicate that Ca &lt;sup&gt;2+&lt;/sup&gt; -dependent hemichannel opening, as well as the P2X7 receptor, are key players in Thy-1-α &lt;sub&gt;V&lt;/sub&gt; ÎČ &lt;sub&gt;3&lt;/sub&gt; Integrin-induced migration of reactive astrocytes. Thus, we investigated whether this signaling pathway is activated in MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells and in B16F10 melanoma cells when stimulated with Thy-1. In both cancer cell types, Thy-1 induced a rapid increase in intracellular Ca &lt;sup&gt;2+&lt;/sup&gt; , ATP release, as well as cell migration and invasion. Connexin and Pannexin inhibitors decreased cell migration, implicating a requirement for hemichannel opening in Thy-1-induced cell migration. In addition, cell migration and invasion were precluded when the P2X7 receptor was pharmacologically blocked. Moreover, the ability of breast cancer and melanoma cells to transmigrate through an activated endothelial monolayer was significantly decreased when the ÎČ &lt;sub&gt;3&lt;/sub&gt; Integrin was silenced in these cancer cells. Importantly, melanoma cells with silenced ÎČ &lt;sub&gt;3&lt;/sub&gt; Integrin were unable to metastasize to the lung in a preclinical mouse model. Thus, our results suggest that the Ca &lt;sup&gt;2+&lt;/sup&gt; /hemichannel/ATP/P2X7 receptor-signaling axis triggered by the Thy-1-α &lt;sub&gt;V&lt;/sub&gt; ÎČ &lt;sub&gt;3&lt;/sub&gt; Integrin interaction is important for cancer cell migration, invasion and transvasation. These findings open up the possibility of therapeutically targeting the Thy-1-Integrin signaling pathway to prevent metastasis

    Does the current taxonomic delimitation of Galianthe find support in phylogenetic perspective?

    Galianthe Griseb. is a neotropical genus comprising 50 species divided into two subgenera: G. subgen. Galianthe (41 spp.), characterized by homogeneous morphological traits, with species further divided into two sections (G. secc. Galianthe and G. secc. Laxae); and G. subgen. Ebelia (14 spp.) with more heterogeneous morphological characteristics. Due to its morphological similarity with other genera, Galianthe has historically been associated with Borreria, Spermacoce, Diodia (based on fruit type), as well as Denscantia and Emmeorhiza (based on inflorescence type). In recent years, molecular studies have established Galianthe as a basal genus within the Spermacoce clade, closely related to other genera such as Carajasia and Schwendenera. Despite the progress made in recent molecular studies, the studies have focused on a limited number of species within the genus, failing to encompass all infrageneric categories. Questioning of the current taxonomic delimitation of the genus, this study aims to test the monophyly of Galianthe and explore its infrageneric and interspecific phylogenetic relationships. Three markers (two nuclear: ITS, ETS, and one plastid: rps16) were utilized, encompassing 107 entities, including 42 Galianthe species, thereby representing 76% of the current genus diversity, as well as 17 closely related genera within the Spermacoce clade. The phylogenetic results confirm the monophyly of Galianthe, revealing the presence of three major subclades. Subclades I and II comprise several G. subgen. Ebelia species, whereas subclade III consists of all G. subgen. Galianthe species plus G. angulata. Regarding the sections, monophyly was not supported. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that G. subgen. Ebelia is paraphyletic, G. subgen. Galianthe is potentially paraphyletic due to G. angulata, and there is no clear distinction between the sections

    Factibilidad y resultados de un programa de rehabilitaciĂłn cardiaca intensiva. Perspectiva del estudio aleatorizado MxM (MĂĄs por Menos)

    IntroducciĂłn y objetivos Los programas de rehabilitaciĂłn cardiaca (PRC) engloban intervenciones encaminadas a mejorar el pronĂłstico de la enfermedad cardiovascular influyendo en la condiciĂłn fĂ­sica, mental y social de los pacientes, pero no se conoce su duraciĂłn Ăłptima. Nuestro objetivo es comparar los resultados de un PRC estĂĄndar frente a otro intensivo mĂĄs breve tras un sĂ­ndrome coronario agudo, mediante el estudio MĂĄs por Menos. MĂ©todos Diseño prospectivo, aleatorizado, abierto, enmascarado a los evaluadores de eventos y multicĂ©ntrico (PROBE). Se aleatorizĂł a los pacientes al PRC estĂĄndar de 8 semanas u otro intensivo de 2 semanas con sesiones de refuerzo. Se realizĂł una visita final 12 meses despuĂ©s, tras la finalizaciĂłn del programa. Se evaluĂł: adherencia a la dieta, esfera psicolĂłgica, hĂĄbito tabĂĄquico, tratamiento farmacolĂłgico, capacidad funcional, calidad de vida, parĂĄmetros cardiometabĂłlicos y antropomĂ©tricos, eventos cardiovasculares y mortalidad por cualquier causa durante el seguimiento. Resultados Se analizĂł a 497 pacientes (media de edad, 57, 8 ± 10, 0 años; el 87, 3% varones; programa intensivo, n = 262; estĂĄndar, n = 235). Las caracterĂ­sticas basales de ambos grupos eran similares. Al año, mĂĄs del 93% habĂ­a mejorado en al menos 1 MET el resultado de la ergometrĂ­a. AdemĂĄs, la adherencia a la dieta mediterrĂĄnea y la calidad de vida mejoraron significativamente con el PRC, sin diferencias significativas entre grupos. Los eventos cardiovasculares ocurrieron de manera similar en ambos grupos. Conclusiones La PRC intensiva podrĂ­a ser tan efectiva como la PRC estĂĄndar en lograr la adherencia a las medidas de prevenciĂłn secundaria y ser una alternativa para algunos pacientes y centros. Introduction and objectives: Cardiac rehabilitation programs (CRP) are a set of interventions to improve the prognosis of cardiovascular disease by influencing patients’ physical, mental, and social conditions. However, there are no studies evaluating the optimal duration of these programs. We aimed to compare the results of a standard vs a brief intensive CRP in patients after ST-segment elevation and non–ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome through the MĂĄs por Menos study (More Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs in Less Time). Methods: In this prospective, randomized, open, evaluator-blind for end-point, and multicenter trial (PROBE design), patients were randomly allocated to either standard 8-week CRP or intensive 2-week CRP with booster sessions. A final visit was performed 12 months later, after completion of the program. We assessed adherence to the Mediterranean diet, psychological status, smoking, drug therapy, functional capacity, quality of life, cardiometabolic and anthropometric parameters, cardiovascular events, and all-cause mortality during follow-up. Results: A total of 497 patients (mean age, 57.8 ± 10.0 years; 87.3% men) were finally assessed (intensive: n = 262; standard: n = 235). Baseline characteristics were similar between the 2 groups. At 12 months, the results of treadmill ergometry improved by = 1 MET in = 93% of the patients. In addition, adherence to the Mediterranean diet and quality of life were significantly improved by CRP, with no significant differences between the groups. The occurrence of cardiovascular events was similar in the 2 groups. Conclusions: Intensive CRP could be as effective as standard CRP in achieving adherence to recommended secondary prevention measures after acute coronary syndrome and could be an alternative for some patients and centers.     LPA1 receptor and chronic stress: Effects on behaviour and the genes involved in the hippocampal excitatory/inhibitory balance.

    The LPA1 receptor, one of the six characterized G protein-coupled receptors (LPA1-6) through which lysophosphatidic acid acts, is likely involved in promoting normal emotional behaviours. Current data suggest that the LPA-LPA1-receptor pathway may be involved in mediating the negative consequences of stress on hippocampal function. However, to date, there is no available information regarding the mechanisms whereby the LPA1 receptor mediates this adaptation. To gain further insight into how the LPA-LPA1 pathway may prevent the negative consequences of chronic stress, we assessed the effects of the continuous delivery of LPA on depressive-like behaviours induced by a chronic restraint stress protocol. Because a proper excitatory/inhibitory balance seems to be key for controlling the stress response system, the gene expression of molecular markers of excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmission was also determined. In addition, the hippocampal expression of mineralocorticoid receptor genes and glucocorticoid receptor genes and proteins as well as plasma corticosterone levels were determined. Contrary to our expectations, the continuous delivery of LPA in chronically stressed animals potentiated rather than inhibited some (e.g., anhedonia, reduced latency to the first immobility period), though not all, behavioural effects of stress. Furthermore, this treatment led to an alteration in the genes coding for proteins involved in the excitatory/inhibitory balance in the ventral hippocampus and to changes in corticosterone levels.     Long-term consistency of spatial patterns of primate seed dispersal

    Seed dispersal is a key ecological process in tropical forests, with effects on various levels ranging from plant reproductive success to the carbon storage potential of tropical rainforests. On a local and landscape scale, spatial patterns of seed dispersal create the template for the recruitment process and thus influence the population dynamics of plant species. The strength of this influence will depend on the long‐term consistency of spatial patterns of seed dispersal. We examined the long‐term consistency of spatial patterns of seed dispersal with spatially explicit data on seed dispersal by two neotropical primate species, Leontocebus nigrifrons and Saguinus mystax (Callitrichidae), collected during four independent studies between 1994 and 2013. Using distributions of dispersal probability over distances independent of plant species, cumulative dispersal distances, and kernel density estimates, we show that spatial patterns of seed dispersal are highly consistent over time. For a specific plant species, the legume Parkia panurensis, the convergence of cumulative distributions at a distance of 300 m, and the high probability of dispersal within 100 m from source trees coincide with the dimension of the spatial–genetic structure on the embryo/juvenile (300 m) and adult stage (100 m), respectively, of this plant species. Our results are the first demonstration of long‐term consistency of spatial patterns of seed dispersal created by tropical frugivores. Such consistency may translate into idiosyncratic patterns of regeneration

    IndexaciĂłn: Web of Science; Scielo.La EstaciĂłn BiolĂłgica Senda Darwin (EBSD) constituye un centro de investigaciĂłn inmerso en el paisaje rural del norte de la Isla de ChiloĂ© (42Âș S), donde fragmentos del bosque siempreverde original coexisten con praderas de uso ganadero, turberas de Sphagnum, matorrales sucesionales, plantaciones de Eucalyptus y otras formaciones de origen antropogĂ©nico. Desde 1994 hemos realizado estudios de largo plazo centrados en algunas especies de plantas (e.g., Pilgerodendron uviferum D. Don) y animales (e.g., Aphrastura spinicauda Gmelin, Dromiciops gliroides [Thomas]) catalogados como amenazados o escasamente conocidos y en ecosistemas nativos de importancia regional y global (e.g., turberas de Sphagnum, bosque Valdiviano y NordpatagĂłnico). Las investigaciones han considerado las respuestas de las especies y de los ecosistemas frente al cambio antropogĂ©nico del paisaje y cambio climĂĄtico, asĂ­ como los efectos de diferentes formas de manejo. Este escenario es semejante al de otras regiones de Chile y LatinoamĂ©rica lo que da generalidad a nuestros resultados y modelos. En este perĂ­odo, investigadores asociados a la EBSD han producido mĂĄs de un centenar de publicaciones en revistas nacionales e internacionales y 30 tesis de pre y postgrado. Entendiendo el papel clave de los seres humanos en los procesos ecolĂłgicos de la zona rural, la EBSD ha desarrollado un programa de educaciĂłn ecolĂłgica y vinculaciĂłn del avance cientĂ­fico con la sociedad local y nacional. La integraciĂłn de la EBSD a la naciente red de Sitios de Estudios Socio-EcolĂłgicos de Largo Plazo en Chile consolidarĂĄ y fortalecerĂĄ la investigaciĂłn bĂĄsica y aplicada que realizamos para proyectarla hacia la siguiente dĂ©cada.Senda Darwin Biological Station (SDBS) is a field research center immersed in the rural landscape of northern ChiloĂ© island (42Âș S), where remnant patches of the original evergreen forests coexist with open pastures, secondary successional shrublands, Sphagnum bogs, Eucalyptus plantations and other anthropogenic cover types, constituting an agricultural frontier similar to other regions in Chile and Latin America. Since 1994, we have conducted long-term research on selected species of plants (e.g., Pilgerodendron uviferum) and animals (e.g., Aphrastura spinicauda, Dromiciops glirioides) that are considered threatened, poorly known or important for their ecological functions in local ecosystems, and on ecosystems of regional and global relevance (e.g., Sphagnum bogs, North Patagonian and Valdivian rain forests). Research has assessed the responses of species and ecosystems to anthropogenic land-use change, climate change, and the impact of management. During this period, more than 100 scientific publications in national and international journals, and 30 theses (graduate and undergraduate) have been produced by scientists and students associated with SDBS. Because of our understanding of the key role that humans play in ecological processes at this agricultural frontier, since the establishment of SDBS we have been committed to creative research on the communication of science to society and ecological education. The integration of SDBS to the nascent Chilean network of long-term socio-ecological research will consolidate and strengthen basic and applied research to project our work into the next decade.http://ref.scielo.org/vbm4r

    Autophagy modulates endothelial junctions to restrain neutrophil diapedesis during inflammation

    The migration of neutrophils from the blood circulation to sites of infection or injury is a key immune response and requires the breaching of endothelial cells (ECs) that line the inner aspect of blood vessels. Unregulated neutrophil transendothelial cell migration (TEM) is pathogenic, but the molecular basis of its physiological termination remains unknown. Here, we demonstrated that ECs of venules in inflamed tissues exhibited a robust autophagic response that was aligned temporally with the peak of neutrophil trafficking and was strictly localized to EC contacts. Genetic ablation of EC autophagy led to excessive neutrophil TEM and uncontrolled leukocyte migration in murine inflammatory models, while pharmacological induction of autophagy suppressed neutrophil infiltration into tissues. Mechanistically, autophagy regulated the remodeling of EC junctions and expression of key EC adhesion molecules, facilitating their intracellular trafficking and degradation. Collectively, we have identified autophagy as a modulator of EC leukocyte trafficking machinery aimed at terminating physiological inflammation
