El papel de la propiedad extranjera en la innovacion
The aims of this work are to analyze the relationship between the existence of foreign investors' ownership on the firm and the firm's innovation probability, and to examine the influence of the foreign ownership on the level of firm's innovation. To that end, an empirical study was conducted of 1267 Spanish industrial firms in the 1998-2002 period. The results reveal that the existence of foreign owners has a negative effect on firm's innovation probability. Moreover, when the level of foreign ownership is considered the results shown that the foreign ownership concentration present a non-linear (-/+) relationship with the level of firm's innovation

A study of the antioxidant capacity of oak wood used in wine ageing and the correlation with polyphenol composition
The antioxidant capacity of oak wood used in the ageing of wine was studied by four different methods: measurement of scavenging capacity against a given radical (ABTS, DPPH), oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) and the ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP). Although, the four methods tested gave comparable results for the antioxidant capacity measured in oak wood extracts, the ORAC method gave results with some differences from the other methods. Non-toasted oak wood samples displayed more antioxidant power than toasted ones due to differences in the polyphenol compositon. A correlation analysis revealed that ellagitannins were the compounds mainly responsible for the antioxidant capacity of oak wood. Some phenolic acids, mainly gallic acid, also showed a significant correlation with antioxidant capacity
A Rational Expectations Model for Simulation and Policy Evaluation of the Spanish Economy
This paper describes a Rational Expectations Model of the Spanish economy, REMS, which is in the tradition of small open economy dynamic general equilibrium models, with a strongly microfounded system of equations. The model is built on standard elements, but incorporates some distinctive features to provide an accurate description of the Spanish economy. We contribute to the existing models of the Spanish economy by adding search and matching rigidities to a small open economy framework. Our model also incorporates habits in consumption and rule-of-thumb households. As Spain is a member of EMU, we model the interaction between a small open economy and monetary policy in a monetary union. The model is primarily constructed to serve as a simulation tool at the Spanish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance. As such, it provides a great deal of information regarding the transmission of policy shocks to economic outcomes. The paper describes the structure of the model in detail, as well as the estimation and calibration technique and some examples of simulations.general equilibrium, rigidities, policy simulations
The REMSDB Macroeconomic Database of The Spanish Economy
This paper presents a new macroeconomic database for the Spanish economy, REMSDB. The construction of this database has been oriented to conducting medium-term simulations for policy evaluation with the REMS model, a large Rational Expectations macroeconomic Model for Spain. The paper provides a detailed description of the data and documents its main statistical properties. The database is thought to be of major interest to related applications, whether strictly associated with the REMS model or, rather, with empirical macroeconomic studies.Spanish Data, Growth Data, Business Cycle Data, REMS
Approximate parametrization of plane algebraic curves by linear systems of curves
t is well known that an irreducible algebraic curve is rational (i.e. parametric) if and only if its genus is zero. In this paper, given a tolerance Ï”>0 and an Ï”-irreducible algebraic affine plane curve C of proper degree d, we introduce the notion of Ï”-rationality, and we provide an algorithm to parametrize approximately affine Ï”-rational plane curves by means of linear systems of (dâ2)-degree curves. The algorithm outputs a rational parametrization of a rational curve of degree d which has the same points at infinity as C. Moreover, although we do not provide a theoretical analysis, our empirical analysis shows that and C are close in practice
A dark energy multiverse
We present cosmic solutions corresponding to universes filled with dark and
phantom energy, all having a negative cosmological constant. All such solutions
contain infinite singularities, successively and equally distributed along
time, which can be either big bang/crunchs or big rips singularities.
Classicaly these solutions can be regarded as associated with multiverse
scenarios, being those corresponding to phantom energy that may describe the
current accelerating universe
A retrospective epydemiologic study was undertaken in a serie of 322 aged patients
with fracture of the upper extremity of the femur treated at the traumatology unit of
the «Hospital del Insalud» in Logroño beetween 1985 and 1988. Accidental falls with a minimum
traumatism were the main cause of the injury, with major incidence on 78 years old women,
the trochanteric fractures being more frequent than femoral week fractures. In our serie, 48%
of patients were affected by more than one previous disease to the fracture. Local post-operatire
complications (nail migration, local infection, haematoma) were found in 12%, and general
complications (urinary infection, pulmonary embolism, crust) in 19%. According to Nickens'
functional evaluation we found that 71% of patients were able to walk after surgery. The results
obtained in this community have been found similar to those reported by other authors
Interactive feature space extension for multidimensional data projection
Projecting multi-dimensional data to a lower-dimensional visual display is a commonly used approach for identifying and analyzing patterns in data. Many dimensionality reduction techniques exist for generating visual embeddings, but it is often hard to avoid cluttered projections when the data is large in size and noisy. For many application users who are not machine learning experts, it is difficult to control the process in order to improve the âreadabilityâ of the projection and at the same time to understand their quality. In this paper, we propose a simple interactive feature transformation approach that allows the analyst to de-clutter the visualization by gradually transforming the original feature space based on existing class knowledge. By changing a single parameter, the user can easily decide the desired trade-off between structural preservation and the visual quality during the transforming process. The proposed approach integrates semi-interactive feature transformation techniques as well as a variety of quality measures to help analysts generate uncluttered projections and understand their quality
