    Get PDF
In this study is proposed an educational innovation that consists of using sentences in order to learn Law. The student has to learn by means of study of sentences that have been chosen carefully. As well as learning legal knowledge, students can also learn technical skills, which will be very important in their career.

A geometric approach to phase response curves and its numerical computation through the parameterization method

    Get PDF
The final publication is available at link.springer.comThe phase response curve (PRC) is a tool used in neuroscience that measures the phase shift experienced by an oscillator due to a perturbation applied at different phases of the limit cycle. In this paper, we present a new approach to PRCs based on the parameterization method. The underlying idea relies on the construction of a periodic system whose corresponding stroboscopic map has an invariant curve. We demonstrate the relationship between the internal dynamics of this invariant curve and the PRC, which yields a method to numerically compute the PRCs. Moreover, we link the existence properties of this invariant curve as the amplitude of the perturbation is increased with changes in the PRC waveform and with the geometry of isochrons. The invariant curve and its dynamics will be computed by means of the parameterization method consisting of solving an invariance equation. We show that the method to compute the PRC can be extended beyond the breakdown of the curve by means of introducing a modified invariance equation. The method also computes the amplitude response functions (ARCs) which provide information on the displacement away from the oscillator due to the effects of the perturbation. Finally, we apply the method to several classical models in neuroscience to illustrate how the results herein extend the framework of computation and interpretation of the PRC and ARC for perturbations of large amplitude and not necessarily pulsatile.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

Multivariate Orthogonal Polynomials and Modified Moment Functionals

Multivariate orthogonal polynomials can be introduced by using a moment functional defined on the linear space of polynomials in several variables with real coefficients. We study the so-called Uvarov and Christoffel modifications obtained by adding to the moment functional a finite set of mass points, or by multiplying it times a polynomial of total degree 2, respectively. Orthogonal polynomials associated with modified moment functionals will be studied, as well as the impact of the modification in useful properties of the orthogonal polynomials. Finally, some illustrative examples will be given

Determination of Soluble Sugars in Arabidopsis thaliana Leaves by Anion Exchange Chromatography

Determination of soluble sugars is basic for the study of carbon metabolism in plants. Soluble sugar quantitation can be achieved by enzymatic methods implying different coupled reactions. Here we describe a simple method that allows rapid determination of the most abundant soluble sugars (glucose, fructose and sucrose) in Arabidopsis leaves by anion exchange chromatography. We have applied this method to study the levels of soluble sugars during the photoperiodic transition to flowering (Ortiz-Marchena et al., 2014).España, MINECO projects CSD2007-00057, BIO2008-02292, and BIO2011-28847-C02-00España, Junta de Andalucía P06-CVI-01450 and P08-AGR-0358

Purification of Starch Granules from Arabidopsis Leaves and Determination of Granule-Bound Starch Synthase Activity

Starch constitutes the most important carbon reserve in plants and is composed of branched amylopectin and linear amylose. The latter is synthesized exclusively by the Granule-Bound Starch Synthase (GBSS, EC 2.4.1.21). Here we report a readily reproducible, specific and highly sensitive protocol, which includes the isolation of intact starch granules from Arabidopsis thaliana leaves and the subsequent determination of GBSS activity. We have applied this method to study GBSS activity in diurnal cycles in vegetative growth and during the photoperiodic transition to flowering in Arabidopsis (Tenorio et al., 2003; Ortiz-Marchena et al., 2014).España,MINECO CSD2007-00057, BIO2008-02292, and BIO2011-28847-C02-00España, Junta de Andalucía P06-CVI-01450 and P08-AGR-0358

    Modelos animales en anfibios

    Get PDF
An animal model is a non-human animal useful for research and teaching because it has specific characteristics that resemble a human or superior animal. In the design of those animal models, the keys are the election of the correct species and the viability to extrapolate the data obtained to the species in which these are going to be used. In this work the anatomic, physiologic and ecological aspects that turn some of the amphibian species in the most employed animal models in investigation are reviewed. These are: easy breeding, tolerance to diverse habitats, high prolificity, phylogenetic and ecological diversity, tissue regeneration capability, unique ability to undergo metamorphosis, high sensitivity to climatic and habitat changes. The most important amphibian models used in research are reviewed in this article

This article seeks to clarify the impact of human capital on the innovation capacity of companies. We employ the literature review and some personals interpretations. Results have relevant implications for managers of companies that are interested in promoting thier innovation activity. By considering how human capital is related with the innovation process, this article attempts to provide a useful guide of human capital indicators within the intellectual capital framework. We consider that the basic contribution of our work is the development of a system of indicators for human capital management with the objective of allowing for a clear picture of links between strategic human resources and the innovation capacity of companies. Moreover, it can be easily adapted to a given type of organization and, therefore, serve to compare companies belonging to the same sector of activityEl objetivo de este artículo es definir el impacto del capital humano en la capacidad innovadora de las empresas y para ello hemos recurrido a la revisión de la literatura y a nuestras interpretaciones personales.
