    Oscillation and nonoscillation theories have recently gotten too much attention and play a very important role in the theory of time-scale systems to have enough information about the long-time behavior of nonlinear systems. Some applications of such systems in discrete and continuous cases arise in control and stability theories for the unmanned aerial and ground vehicles (UAVs and UGVs). We deal with a two-dimensional nonlinear system to investigate the oscillatory behaviors of solutions. This helps us understand the limiting behavior of such solutions and contributes several theoretical results to the literature

    Broaching is one of the most recognized machining processes that can yield high productivity and high quality when applied properly. One big disadvantage of broaching is that all process parameters, except cutting speed, are built into the broaching tools. Therefore, it is not possible to modify the cutting conditions during the process once the tool is manufactured. Optimal design of broaching tools has a significant impact to increase the productivity and to obtain high quality products. In this paper, an optimization model for broaching design is presented. The model results in a non-linear non-convex optimization problem. Analysis of the model structure indicates that the model can be decomposed into smaller problems. The model is applied on a turbine disc broaching problem which is considered as one of the most complex broaching operations

    Questioning impact: interconnection between extra-organizational resources and agency of equality and diversity officers

    This paper examines the change agency of equality and diversity (E&D) officers with a specific emphasis on the role of extra-organizational influences and resources. The paper is informed by qualitative material collected through interviews with E&D officers from 20 higher education institutions in the UK. The paper offers an evidence-based analysis of the utility of extra-organizational mechanisms and intervention programmes for organizational E&D agenda and for the agentic influence of E&D officers. The paper contributes to both academic literature and policy-making. We present original empirical insights into the change agency of E&D officers by exploring the impact of extra-organizational bodies as potential mechanisms for support and influence. At the policy level, the paper provides evidence on the value of extra-organizational resources and tools that are produced by policy bodies in promoting progressive E&D agendas in organizations

    Antiviral therapy in neonatal cholestatic cytomegalovirus hepatitis

    BACKGROUND: Neonatal hepatitis refers to a heterogeneous group of disorders, caused by many factors including cytomegalovirus infection, revealing similar morphologic changes in the liver of an infant less than 3 months of age. Approximately 40% of cholestasis in infants is due to neonatal hepatitis. It may cause latent or acute cholestatic or chronic hepatitis, including cirrhosis in immunocompetant infant. METHODS: Twelve infants diagnosed with neonatal cytomegalovirus hepatitis in the last one year were included in the study. Group 1 consisted of seven babies treated with ganciclovir for 21 days. Group 2 included five cases who did not receive antiviral treatment. Physical examination, biochemical, serologic and virologic tests were done for both groups at the time of diagnosis and in the third month. RESULTS: Initial levels of total bilirubin, aminotransferases, gamma glutamyl transpeptidase, and alkaline phosphatase revealed a significant decrease after the treatment in Group 1 (p < 0.05) when compared with Group 2. This study revealed that ganciclovir treatment is a safe and effective in cases with cholestatic hepatitis. Similarly, all the patients in the treatment group had evidence of improvement serologically and virologically, while the comparison group did not reveal any significant change(p < 0.01). CONCLUSION: The clinical spectrum of perinatal infection varies from an asymptomatic infection or a mild disease to a severe systemic involvement, including central nervous system. The treatment in the early period of infection improved serologic markers and cholestatic parameters significantly. Further studies will lead us to clarify the efficacy of ganciclovir treatment in the early period of cytomegalovirus hepatitis, and the preventive role of anti-viral therapy on progressive liver disease due to cholestasis and hepatitis in neonatal cytomegalovirus infection

    The Relationship Between Dietary Intakes and Total Kidney Volume in Patients with Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease Dietary Intake and Polycystic Kidney Volume

    Aim: There is a need to understand autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) patients’ dietary habits since dietary interventions may have potential effects on ADPKD. In this study, we aimed to analyze the relationship between dietary nutrient intake and total kidney volume (TKV). Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 54 ADPKD patients recruited from the Nephrology outpatient clinic between June and July 2014. TKV was determined by magnetic-resonance imaging and general characteristics, biochemical and urinary parameters were determined. The nutrient intakes of patients were calculated using the three-day dietary records obtained on three consecutive days. Results: The total kidney-volume median was found to be 1407 mL. Patients’ total dietary energy and protein intakes were 25.8±9.4 kcal/kg, 0.9±0.3 g/kg, respectively. The percentage of carbohydrates, protein, and fat in energy was 49±7%, 14±3%, 37±7%, respectively. The mean intakes of thiamin, riboflavin, B6, calcium, magnesium, and zinc were sufficient, the mean dietary potassium intake was insufficient; and sodium intake was excessive in both sexes. In females, there was a negative but weak correlation between dietary vitamin C intake and TKV. In males, a negative but weak correlation was found between TKV and dietary intake of fiber, water, vitamin B6, vitamin K, magnesium, and iron. Conclusions: Dietary micronutrient intake may affect TKV according to sex. © 2022, Galenos Publishing House. All rights reserved

    Porous metal-organic Cu II complex of L-Arginine; synthesis, characterization, hydrogen storage properties and molecular simulation calculations

    Cu II -arginine coordination compound was synthesized and characterized by using DSC, DTA, EA, FT-IR, XRD, SEM and EDX analysis techniques and then the hydrogen storage properties were investigated. Hydrogen storage performance of synthesized compound was determined both experimental and theoretically by using Materials Studio which is one of the Molecular simulation software and adsorption measurement equipment. It is found out that the arginine compound uptakes approximately 1.2 wt. % experimentally and 0.8 wt. % theoretically hydrogen in 77K and 100 bars pressure. Also the surface characteristics was calculated and also the possible cites which could uptake hydrogen in a single lattice cell were determined. At the end of this research, in addition to drug and other applications of L-arginine, it is proved that could be used as a part of adsorbent for hydrogen storage application
