Synthesis of boron nitride nanotubes from ammonia and a powder mixture of boron and iron oxide
Boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) were synthesized from the reaction of ammonia gas with a powder mixture of boron and iron oxide in a tubular reactor connected to a mass spectrometer for the on-line chemical analysis of the reactor outlet stream at different temperatures and inlet gas compositions. XRD results showed that hexagonal and rhombohedral boron nitrides, iron, boron oxide, and iron boride were the solid phases formed in these materials depending on the reaction temperature and gas composition. It was observed that the crystallinity of the product increased with an increase in temperature. The synthesized materials exhibited Type II isotherms. The chemical analysis revealed that the only reaction taking place in the gas phase was the decomposition reaction of the ammonia gas and BNNTs were produced by the reaction of nitrogen formed from the decomposition reaction with FexBy formed from the reaction of B with Fe2O3

In incest cases, notification rates are relatively low, especially the sexual abuse between siblings remains hidden much more than other sexual abuses. In this case report, which appears in a random manner, 12-year-old male patient, who was abused by his sister, will be discussed. Our incest case has a big importance because of having a sister as an abuser, since incest abusers often considered to be fathers or brothers. At this point, the possibility of having the abuse carried out by anyone from children's social environment including each family members should be kept in mind

Might BPA and phthalates have a role in etiopathogenesis of ADHD?
Objective: Although the etiology of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is unknown, it is thought that endocrine disruptors may be involved in the etiopathogenesis. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between ADHD development and exposure to mono-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (MEHP), di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), and bisphenol A (BPA). Methods: The study included 44 children who were diagnosed with ADHD according to DSM IV-TR diagnostic criteria and 51 healthy children as controls. In all subjects, serum MEHP, DEHP, and BPA were measured by using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Results: Serum MEHP and BPA levels were found to be significantly higher in the ADHD group (0.47 +/- 0.22 mu g/ml, 1.48 +/- 0.28 ng/ml) than the controls (0.31 +/- 0.13 mu g/ml, 0.91 +/- 0.23 ng/ml). There was no difference in the level of DEHP between the ADHD group and healthy controls (2.17 +/- 0.69 mu g/ml, 2.26 +/- 0.56 mu g/ml). Conclusion: Our results could be accepted as an evidence to support an association between BPA, MEHPlevels and ADHD. However, further studies are needed to clarify the linkage between ADHD and endocrine disruptors
Cardiac Monitoring in Patients with Electrocution Injury
BACKGROUND The necessity of admitting patients exposed to electrocution injuries for monitoring and observation in the emergency department (ED) remains controversial. METHODS We evaluated the medical records of 102 patients (86 male, 16 female; median age 29.5; range 18 to 68 years) admitted to the adult ED with electrocution injuries over the past 20 years. RESULTS Only 9 deaths were reported: 3 as a result of contact with low-voltage electricity and 6 after contact with high-voltage electricity. With the exception of a case of sepsis, all deaths were related to early rhythm abnormalities immediately following the incident. The ECG findings of surviving patients in the study group were as follows: 70 normal, 8 sinus tachycardia, 3 sinus bradycardia, 4 ST-T wave changes, and 1 ventricular extrasystole. ECG recordings of 7 patients could not be found. 72 cases had been followed up with repeat ECG recordings. There were no observed ECG changes requiring any medical or electrical therapies in the surviving patients. CONCLUSION Cardiac rhythm abnormalities related to electrocution injuries are usually observed at the time of the incident. If the patient's overall clinical condition is good and they have a normal ECG at the time of admission to the ED, the probability of observing any delayed serious dysrhythmia is unlikely.WoSScopu
Ocular findings in patients with psoriasis
Background Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting skin, nails, and joints. Although there are not many reports in the literature, ocular findings occur in approximately 10% of patients, in mostly those who have psoriatic arthritis. In this study, we aimed to evaluate eye involvement in psoriasis patients. Methods This study was performed on a total of 100 psoriasis patients and a group of 100 healthy individuals. History was taken from all study and control subjects, and dermatological, systemic, and ophthalmological examinations were performed and Schirmer and BUT values were measured. Constant variables were compared using the t-test, and categorical variables were compared using chi-square test. Relationship between ocular findings and sex, age, duration of psoriasis, PASI score, presence of psoriatic plaques on the eyelid, nail involvement, and psoriatic arthritis was evaluated using logistic regression analysis. Statistical analyses were performed individually for both right and left eyes. Results The number of ocular findings in both eyes in the patient group was found to be statistically higher than that in the control group. Schirmer and BUT values were statistically lower in the patient group than those in the control group. Conclusions Although results of our study support the necessity of routine ophthalmological examination of psoriasis patients for early diagnosis and treatment, we believe that further studies are required on the etiopathogenesis of ocular involvement in psoriasis patients
