The degradation and impoverishment of the seabed that has been detected during last decades is the result of numerous variables, among which are uncontrolled exploitation of the seabed concerning its vulnerability, based on trawling gear. Intending to bring the situation under control, European fishing authorities have concluded a series of proposals to promote, define and defend Marine Vulnerable Ecosystems (VMEs), among which one of the most controversial and with the greatest social and economic impact is the veto of trawling in numerous fishing areas/grounds that currently are exploited by a large c number of vessels from many countries of the EU, which see their livelihood in danger. In the process of proposing an alternative that is attractive to both parts, we propose an automatic, real-time tool (BentoSearcher) based on artificial intelligence so that trawlers have will have the autonomy to decide whether or not to cast the net on the seabed in which the vessel is operating based on the data of benthic species detected in previous fishing hauls or trips that characterize and allow to identify vulnerable seabeds

With the objective of evaluating and selecting cover crops to improve soil management in vineyards ( Vitis vinifera L.) cv. Cabernet Sauvignon, five cover pastures were evaluated: a) control without vegetation; b) control with spontaneous vegetation; c) legume mixture of early maturing cultivars of subterranean clover ( Trifolium subterraneum L.) and burr medic ( Medicago polymorpha L.); d) legumes mixture of late maturing cultivars of subterranean clover and balansa clover (T. michelianum Savi); and e) legumes mixture of late maturing cultivars and annual ryegrass ( Lolium rigidum Gaud.).The study was conducted at Cauquenes Experimental Center, Agriculture Research Institute (INIA), over two seasons, 2005-2006 and 2006-2007. The experimental design was randomized blocks with four replicates. The three pasture mixtures had a good establishment and achieved high populations. Biomass production was significantly higher (P 64 0.05) in the mixtures with late maturing cultivars of subterranean clover and balansa clover, compared to the mixture of early maturing cultivars of subterranean clover and burr medic (2.3 to 4 t DM ha-1 yr-1 and 5.3 to 6.2 t DM ha-1 yr-1 in the first and second year, respectively). The contents of N, P and K in the biomass of the cover crops were higher (P 64 0.05) than those covers with spontaneous species, which allowed for increasing the content of available N in the soil. As well, higher contents of K and P were detected in the soil. The over crops exercised an important detrimental effect on the population of the spontaneous species that grow in the inter-rows of the vineyard.Con el objetivo de evaluar y seleccionar cubiertas vegetales como cultivos entre hileras, para mejorar el manejo del suelo en un vi\uf1edo ( Vitis vinifera L.) cv. The implementation and fully compliance of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) of the EU depends largely on the ability to quantify total catches on board commercial fishing vessels. To this aim, the use of electronic devices is gaining relevance and vision-based electronic monitoring technologies have emerged as a more cost-effective and efficient way to monitor fishing activity. In this work, we present the iObserver 2.0, a device that uses Deep Learning image recognition to automatically identify and quantify in real time the entire catch on board fishing vessels. It builds upon two previous prototypes, improving image quality by using line scan technology. Two neural networks are used for fish species segmentation, identification, and length regression tasks. As main results of this disruptive technology, the iObserver 2.0 distinguishes more than twice the number of species than previous version, works with area scan and line scan camera images, and it is evaluated with a test set incorporating more complex images. An experimental fishing survey has been conducted to assess the system’s performance in real-life conditions, showing promising results in terms of total catch registration of target and discard fish species.Peer Reviewe

Crossbreeding allows taking advantage of additive genetic differences between breeds, they also allow making use of heterosis and complementarity. Therefore, it is necessary to generate information on the efficacy of crosses compared to pure breeds under the conditions of interest. The objective was to quantify the impact of additive and non-additive genetic effects for days to first estrus (DFE), days to first service (DFS), days open (DO), services per conception (SPC), calving interval (CI) and gestation length (GL). The productive and genealogical information of females from a diallel between Holstein (HO) and Brown Swiss (BS), a total of 148 cows of the breeds HO (n=43), BS (n=64) and their reciprocal crosses HO-BS (n=20) and BS-HO (n=21), was used. Contrasts were used to estimate individual heterosis and differences between direct genetic effects and between maternal genetic effects based on Dickerson models. The results showed that heterosis and differences between maternal effects were not significant (P>0.05) for any of the traits studied. Differences between direct genetic effects were only important (P0.05) para ninguna de las características estudiadas.

OBJECTIVE: It is essential to identify a serological marker of injury in order to study the pathophysiology of intestinal ischemia reperfusion. In this work, we studied the evolution of several serological markers after intestinal ischemia reperfusion injury in rats. The markers of non-specific cell damage were aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransaminase, and lactic dehydrogenase, the markers of inflammation were tumor necrosis factor alpha, interleukin-6, and interleukin-1 beta, and the markers of intestinal mucosal damage were intestinal fatty acid binding protein and D-lactate. We used Chiús classification to grade the histopathological damage. METHODS: We studied 35 Wistar rats divided into groups according to reperfusion time. The superior mesenteric artery was clamped for 30 minutes, and blood and biopsies were collected at 1, 3, 6, 12, 24, and 48 hours after reperfusion. We plotted the mean ± standard deviation and compared the baseline and maximum values for each marker using Student's t-test. RESULTS: The maximum values of interleukin-1 beta and lactic dehydrogenase were present before the maximal histopathological damage. The maximum tumor necrosis factor alpha and D-lactate expressions coincided with histopathological damage. Alanine aminotransaminase and aspartate aminotransferase had a maximum expression level that increased following the histopathological damage. The maximum expressions of interluken-6 and intestinal fatty acid binding protein were not significantly different from the Sham treated group. CONCLUSION: For the evaluation of injury secondary to acute intestinal ischemia reperfusion with a 30 minute ischemia period, we recommend performing histopathological grading, quantification of D-lactate, which is synthesized by intestinal bacteria and is considered an indicator of mucosal injury, and quantification of tumor necrosis factor alpha as indicators of acute inflammation three hours after reperfusion
