AbstractA generalized Bethe tree is a rooted tree in which vertices at the same distance from the root have the same degree. Let Pm be a path of m vertices. Let {Bi:1⩽i⩽m} be a set of generalized Bethe trees. Let Pm{Bi:1⩽i⩽m} be the tree obtained from Pm and the trees B1,B2,…,Bm by identifying the root vertex of Bi with the i-th vertex of Pm. We give a complete characterization of the eigenvalues of the Laplacian and adjacency matrices of Pm{Bi:1⩽i⩽m}. In particular, we characterize their spectral radii and the algebraic conectivity. Moreover, we derive results concerning their multiplicities. Finally, we apply the results to the case B1=B2=…=Bm

The Intentional and the Grassroots Hispanic-Serving Institutions: A Critical History of Two Universities

This study examines the institutional histories of Loma Verde University and Azul City University and their development over time into Hispanic-Serving Institutions. Utilizing a theoretical framework of transformational change, we focus on various aspects of these institutions, including curriculum, the allocation of physical spaces, and the creation of programs that specifically serve Latinx students. The study makes use of archival documents that tell the story of the struggles at each institution to cultivate a campus that addressed the needs of Latinx students to promote their long-term academic success. The findings suggest that these institutions were on paths that were heavily influenced by their local contexts and student population; that the transformational process to serving Latinx students was long and faced setbacks; and that their successes came in different forms. These conclusions indicate that the histories of Hispanic-Serving Institutions may be as rich and diverse as the Latinx population itself, furthering the notion that these institutions are unique among other types of Minority-Serving Institutions

Two cycles of monetary easing in Mexico: 2009 and 2013−2014

This paper provides an analysis of two cycles of monetary easing in Mexico. The first took place in 2009, during the global financial crisis, and the second occurred in 2013−2014, when the Mexican economy lost dynamism. In both periods, the actions taken by the Bank of Mexico provide ample evidence of its efforts to stabilize output and employment, while ceding importance to the fight against inflation and, in doing so, adopting a hierarchical mandate. The abundant global liquidity generated in developed countries by the great recession facilitated the monetary flexibilization in Mexico. A revision of official information from the Bank of Mexico in 2009 and 2013−2014 provides data on the cuts made to the reference rate, their periodicity, as well as their quantity. The two cycles of monetary expansion diminished the cost of money with the goal of incentivizing investment and consumption while counteracting the weakness of the Mexican economy.El trabajo analiza dos ciclos de relajamiento monetario en México, el primero en 2009 con la crisis mundial y el segundo en 2013−2014 cuando la economía mexicana perdió dinamismo; para evidenciar las acciones de Banco de México por estabilizar en dos momentos el producto y el empleo, restándole importancia al combate a la inflación y en los hechos adoptando un mandato jerarquizado. La abundante liquidez mundial que se generó en los países desarrollados por la gran recesión facilitó la flexibilización monetaria en México. Mediante una revisión de información oficial de Banco de México en 2009 y 2013−2014, se presentan los recortes a la tasa de referencia, su periodicidad y su cuantía. Silencing of the Na+/H+ exchanger 1(NHE-1) prevents cardiac structural and functional remodeling induced by angiotensin II

Chronic activation of the renin angiotensin system (RAS) favors several cardiac diseases, among which myocardial hypertrophy occupies an outstanding place. In this context, the hyperactivity of the cardiac Na+/H+ (NHE-1) exchanger plays a key role. The pathologic remodeling of the myocardium constitutes an independent risk factor for morbidity and mortality with continuously increasing healthcare cost. Therefore, the development of better therapeutic strategies emerges as highly mandatory. Our goal was to prevent angiotensin II (ANGII)-induced cardiac hypertrophy by NHE-1 gene silencing in Wistar rats. The intramyocardial injection of a lentivirus coding a specific small interference RNA (l-shNHE1) significantly reduced NHE-1 expression exclusively in the heart (~ 50 %) and prevented cardiac remodeling in rats exposed to chronic infusion of ANG II (heart weigh/tibia length: 24,03 ± 0,7915 mg/mm vs 28,45 ± 0,9779 mg/mm and collagen volume fraction 2,526 ± 0,5003 vs 5,982 ± 1,043 in l-shNHE1 + ANGII and ANGII, respectively).Interestingly, this was accompanied by an improvement in cardiac function determined by echocardiography even though blood pressure remained elevated (Fractional shortening 0,5960 ± 0,4228 vs -0,9567± 0,06888 and blood pressure at the end of ANGII treatment 141,2 ± 6,117 mm Hg vs 134,1 ± 6,723 mm Hg ; in l-shNHE1 + ANGII and ANGII, respectively). ANGII infusion increased myocardial NADPH oxidase activity but the l-shNHE1 injection prevented oxidative stressas revealed by the normalization of lipid peroxidation (T-BARS 12,40 ± 2,887.vs 23,05 ± 1,537 in lshNHE1 + ANGII and ANGII, respectively). These results allow as to propose the partial silencing of the cardiac NHE-1 through lentiviralinjection as a promising tool in the prevention of ANGII-induced cardiac hypertrophy.Fil: Medina, Andrés Javier. Promoting Design Knowledge Accumulation Through Systematic Reuse: The Case for Product Line Engineering

DSR literature raises concerns about Design Knowledge (DK) accumulation across distinct projects. We believe that DK and the artifact(s) that fleshes it out, are the two sides of the same coin, to the extent that, for DK accumulation to thrive, DSR artifacts should come along. On these premises, and with a focus on software artifacts, we advocate for complementing the relevance-design-rigor cycles with a fourth step: refactoring. By `refactoring\u27 is meant the effort that goes in making the design artifact fit to evolve. Specifically, we advocate for artifact development to introduce reuse considerations: development-with-reuse permits to start for reusable code, while development-for-reuse allows for artifact customization to be merged back to the reuse platform, and hence, making it available to subsequent projects. By intertwining ``for reuse\u27\u27 and ``by reuse\u27\u27, a reuse platform gradually emerges that expands beyond a single DSR project, and in so doing, becomes the artifact counterpart of the DK accumulation repository. To this end, we make the case for adapting Product Line Engineering (PLE) to DSR. This software development methodology advocates for systematic reuse by putting the focus on a family of artifacts rather than on one-off artifacts. LA Integración Económica de la Unión Europea, evolución y perspectivas

La Unión Europea (UE), es la única Unión Económica que existe en el mundo. En tal sentido, en el presente artículo analizamos la evolución histórica de la instauración de la Unión Europea, del mismo modo, analizamos el funcionamiento de la Unión Europea y de sus instituciones haciendo especial énfasis a las instituciones que atañen al ámbito económico y finalmente se analizan los logros y dificultades del durante el proceso de integración de la Unión Europea. Como resultado, el estudio revela que múltiples son los logros económicos, políticos y sociales que ha alcanzado la Unión Europea hasta el momento, sin embargo, se identifican dificultades que se han hecho evidentes por el impacto de la crisis financiera internacional en las economías de los Estados Miembros, siendo necesaria la creación y/o fortalecimiento de instituciones y de mecanismos que hagan posible una mayor y mejor coordinación de las políticas fiscales y monetarias para que las consecuencias de los eventuales shocks económicos y financieros de un país miembro no trastoquen las finanzas de toda la regió

Propuesta del diseño de un manual de control interno contable del área de Inventario de Suministros en el Hotel Granada Inn, ubicado en el municipio de Granada, Departamento de Granada, durante el II Semestre del año 2016

El presente informe se enfoca en desarrollar una propuesta del diseño de un manual de control interno contable del área de inventario de suministros en el hotel Granada Inn, ubicado en el municipio de Granada, departamento de Granada. Para ello se aplicaron dos entrevistas a los propietarios con el fin de conocer las generalidades y la situación en la que se encuentra el negocio. A través de los instrumentos utilizados, se logró constatar que el hotel Granada Inn se encuentra en la finalización de la primera etapa de construcción por tanto los propietarios carecen de un manual de control interno contable donde se establezcan objetivos, políticas, mecanismos y lineamientos para la operación del área de inventario de suministros. Por tanto elaboramos una propuesta del diseño de un manual de control interno contable al que se sujetará el personal responsable de las operaciones de inventario en el hotel Granada Inn, planteando objetivos general y específicos que servirán de base para el buen funcionamiento del negocio, se establecieron políticas y normas según el modelo Coso I con los cinco componentes característicos de este modelo para controlar las actividades de las empresas, así como mecanismos y lineamientos para la operación de inventario
