Today, there is increasing interest in discovering new bioactive compounds derived from ethnomedicine. Preparations of guava (Psidium guajava L.) leaves have traditionally been used to manage several diseases. The pharmacological research in vitro as well as in vivo has been widely used to demonstrate the potential of the extracts from the leaves for the co-treatment of different ailments with high prevalence worldwide, upholding the traditional medicine in cases such as diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and parasitic infections. Moreover, the biological activity has been attributed to the bioactive composition of the leaves, to some specific phytochemical subclasses, or even to individual compounds. Phenolic compounds in guava leaves have been credited with regulating blood-glucose levels. Thus, the aim of the present review was to compile results from in vitro and in vivo studies carried out with guava leaves over the last decade, relating the effects to their clinical applications in order to focus further research for finding individual bioactive compounds. Some food applications (guava tea and supplementary feed for aquaculture) and some clinical, in vitro, and in vivo outcomes are also included. The author Vito Verardo thanks the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO) for “Ramón y Cajal” post-doctoral contract

K/Ar yaş tayinleri Yamadağı volkanitlerinin 12 ± 0.5 ? 15 ± 0.5 My yaş aralığında oluştuğunu göstermektedir. Yamadağı volkanitlerinin jeokimyasal karakteristikleri bu volkanitlerin evriminde fraksiyonel kristallenmenin yanı sıra magma karışımı ve kabuksal bulaşma süreçlerinin etkin olduğunu göstermektedir.Major, trace element and K-Ar age determinations are reported for a suite from the Yamadağı volcanics in the Eastern Anatolia. The exposed rocks mainly consist of medium-potassium calc-alkaline basaltic andesites, andesites and dacites. Petrographical data exhibit disequilibrium mineral textures, such as resorption of the ferromagnesian phases, clinopyroxene-mantled orthopyroxene, and sieve-textured plagioclases. The Yamadağı volcanics have a calkalkaline character, and trace element characteristics exhibit that the volcanics resemble subduction zone volcanics and/or volcanics assimilated by continental crust. K/Ar age determinations show that the Yamadağı volcanics were formed during the 12 ± 0.5 − 15 ± 0.5 Ma time interval. Geochemical characteristics of these volcanics can be attributed to complex petrogenetic processes, including magma mixing and crustal assimilation along with fractional crystallization

Midgut volvulus due to congenital malrotation in an adult: a case report

Abstract Background Intestinal Malrotation is congenital that complicates 1 in every 200 births. It results from abnormal fixation and rotation of the gut tube during fetal development. It is usually asymptomatic and most cases are diagnosed during childhood and the condition is seldom seen in adults. Also, it can present as an incidental finding in imaging or patients undergoing laparotomy for other reasons. Midgut Volvulus can lead to small obstruction it warrants surgical intervention. Case presentation Our case is a 20 years old black African male from Khartoum (Sudan) who presented to the emergency department with features of intestinal obstruction he was resuscitated and underwent a CT scan of the abdomen that showed malrotation of the intestine with volvulus for which he underwent a Ladd procedure. Conclusion Small bowel obstruction due to volvulus complicating malrotation is a rare presentation in adulthood and the Ladd procedure can be utilized to manage such case
