NoSQL stores for coreless mobile networks

    Get PDF
The goals of 5G networks — low latency, high bandwidth, and support for fast mobility — are non-trivial and they demand improvements across all involved technology fields. Researchers are therefore exploring approaches that leverage on network function virtualization and software-defined networking for meeting the demands of verticals expected to use 5G networks. One approach which appears promising is the concept of a coreless mobile network where the key network functions are placed at the edge of the network. In this article we focus on management of the user-context state in a coreless mobile network, and posit that these network functions can use a NoSQL data store for maintaining the user-context and other state variables. We first present an overview of promising NoSQL data stores and evaluate their suitability. We then present the results of benchmarking the Apache Geode data store as an example of a state management solution which could serve a coreless mobile network. During our tests we observe that the Apache Geode data store is, subject to its configuration, capable of delivering the data model, consistency, and high availability required by a coreless mobile network.Peer reviewe

Interspliced transcription chimeras: Neglected pathological mechanism infiltrating gene accession queries?

AbstractOver half of the DNA of mammalian genomes is transcribed, and one of the emerging enigmas in the field of RNA research is intergenic splicing or transcription induced chimerism. We argue that fused low-copy-number transcripts constitute neglected pathological mechanism akin to copy number variation, due to loss of stoichiometric subunit ratios in protein complexes. An obstacle for transcriptomics meta-analysis of published microarrays is the traditional nomenclature of merged transcript neighbors under same accession codes. Tandem transcripts cover 4–20% of genomes but are only loosely overlapping in population. They were most enriched in systems medicine annotations concerning neurology, thalassemia and genital disorders in the GeneGo Inc. MetaCore-MetaDrugTM knowledgebase, evaluated with external randomizations here. Clinical transcriptomics is good news since new disease etiologies offer new remedies. We identified homeotic HOX-transfactors centered around BMI-1, the Grb2 adaptor network, the kallikrein system, and thalassemia RNA surveillance as vulnerable hotspot chimeras. As a cure, RNA interference would require verification of chimerism from symptomatic tissue contra healthy control tissue from the same patient

Experiences in the evaluation of carcass value of live pigs by ultrasonic photography

In the present study it was found that the mean cross-sectional lean area of three ultrasonic photographs has a closer correlation than any one of the three individual areas to the cross-sectional lean area measured from the carcass. The correlation of this mean value with the lean + bone amount of the most valuable part of the half carcass approached that of the cross-sectional area of the lean measured from the carcass. The correlation of the ultrasonic area measurements with the carcass amounts of fat and lean -f- bone and with the fat-lean ratio calculated from these was closer than that of the ultrasonic thickness measurements. The fat-lean ratio calculated from the areas was also slightly better correlated to carcass quality than was the ratio calculated from the thickness measurements. In other respects the fat thickness measurements appeared to be better than area measurement. Although the measurement of lean correlated to the carcass a value of the animal more poorly than the fat measurements, the highest correlations were nevertheless obtained by the combined use of the fat and lean measurements

Array-based gene expression, CGH and tissue data defines a 12q24 gain in neuroblastic tumors with prognostic implication

Neuroblastoma has successfully served as a model system for the identification of neuroectoderm-derived oncogenes. However, in spite of various efforts, only a few clinically useful prognostic markers have been found. Here, we present a framework, which integrates DNA, RNA and tissue data to identify and prioritize genetic events that represent clinically relevant new therapeutic targets and prognostic biomarkers for neuroblastoma.Peer reviewe
