Investigating Multiplicity: Institutional Logics and Division II Commuter Student Athletes
The primary purpose of this study was to examine the perceptions of commuter student athletes who were hypothesized to experience a multiplicity of institutional logics while competing at the NCAA Division II level. Second, if multiple competing logics were present, the authors intended to test a theoretical model of logic multiplicity development. Utilizing a case study methodology, the authors collected data from commuter student athletes competing at the Division II level. The study’s findings indicated that commuter student athletes perceived the presence of multiple competing logics and that these logics indicated an aligned or minimally estranged organization. In particular, the high compatibility and high centrality of multiple competing logics signified an organization aligned between academic, athletic, and family values, whereas the low centrality and low compatibility of social identification and societal factors denoted an estranged organization for commuter student athletes. The implications of this research within sport management are presented herein
A geometric Newton method for Oja's vector field
Newton's method for solving the matrix equation runs
up against the fact that its zeros are not isolated. This is due to a symmetry
of by the action of the orthogonal group. We show how
differential-geometric techniques can be exploited to remove this symmetry and
obtain a ``geometric'' Newton algorithm that finds the zeros of . The
geometric Newton method does not suffer from the degeneracy issue that stands
in the way of the original Newton method
Examination of the ADOS-2 Expressive Language Score in Fragile X Syndrome
The development of an expressive language score for people with autism based on the ADOS-2 was recently reported by Mazurek et al. (2019). The current study examined the construct validity of the ADOS-2 expressive language score (ELS) in a sample of adolescents with fragile X syndrome (n = 45, 10 girls), a neurodevelopmental disorder with high rates of autism symptomology. The ADOS-2 ELS showed strong convergent validity with multiple assessments of expressive language, receptive language, and nonverbal cognition. Divergent validity was demonstrated between the expressive language score and chronological age, symptoms of anxiety/depression, and rule-breaking behaviors. This expressive language score is a promising measure of expressive language ability that can be used in research when other language assessments are unavailable
d0 Ferromagnetic Interface Between Non-magnetic Perovskites
We use computational and experimental methods to study d0 ferromagnetism at a
charge- imbalanced interface between two perovskites. In SrTiO3/KTaO3
superlattice calculations, the charge imbalance introduces holes in the SrTiO3
layer, inducing a d0 ferromagnetic half-metallic 2D electron gas at the
interface oxygen 2p orbitals. The charge imbalance overrides doping by
vacancies at realistic concentrations. Varying the constituent materials shows
ferromagnetism to be a gen- eral property of hole-type d0 perovskite
interfaces. Atomically sharp epitaxial d0 SrTiO3/KTaO3, SrTiO3 /KNbO3 and
SrTiO3 /NaNbO3 interfaces are found to exhibit ferromagnetic hysteresis at room
temperature. We suggest the behavior is due to high density of states and
exchange coupling at the oxygen t1g band in comparison with the more studied d
band t2g symmetry electron gas.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
Exploring Referee Abuse Through the Lens of the Collegiate Rugby Coach
Referees are valuable contributors to the legitimacy of a sporting contest. Despite this, abuse in sport has become a growing concern and is regularly noted as an obstacle with which referees must contend. Continued abuses have been associated with referee discontinuation and have been noted as a detrimental influence in the recruitment and retention of referees. Sporting organizations, coaches, and players all feel the impact when there is an inadequate supply of referees. Coaches have been noted as a primary perpetrator of referee abuse; thus, in this study, the authors utilize a phenomenological approach to explore perceptions of referee abuse through the lens of the collegiate rugby coach. Data were collected from 15 participants, all of whom completed two phone interviews. Five factors that influence one\u27s perceptions of and proclivity towards referee abuse emerged from the data: (a) personal characteristics/philosophies, (b) relationships, (c) social influences, (d) organizational expectations, and (e) culture. Implications to practice and recommendations for future research are discussed
Theory of Interplay of Nuclear Magnetism and Superconductivity in AuIn2
The recently reported coexistence of a magnetic order, with the critical
temperature T_M=35 \mu*K, and superconductivity, with the critical temperature
T_S=207 m*K, in AuIn_2 is studied theoretically. It is shown that
superconducting (S) electrons and localized nuclear magnetic moments (LM's)
interact dominantly via the contact hyperfine (EX) interaction, giving rise to
a spiral (or domain-like) magnetic order in superconducting phase. The
electromagnetic interaction between LM's and S electrons is small compared to
the EX one giving minor contribution to the formation of the oscillatory
magnetic order. In clean samples (l>\xi_0) of AuIn the oscillatory magnetic
order should produce a line of nodes in the quasiparticle spectrum of S
electrons giving rise to the power law behavior. The critical field H_c(T=0) in
the coexistence phase is reduced by factor two with respect to its bare value.Comment: 4 pages with 2 PS figures, RevTeX, submitted to Physical Review B -
