A human-computer interface is developed to provide services of computer assisted machine translation (CAT) and computer assisted transcription of handwritten text images (CATTI). The back-end machine translation (MT) and handwritten text recognition (HTR) systems are provided by the Pattern Recognition and Human Language Technology (PRHLT) research group. The idea is to provide users with easy to use tools to convert interactive translation and transcription feasible tasks. The assisted service is provided by remote servers with CAT or CATTI capabilities. The interface supplies the user with tools for efficient local edition: deletion, insertion and substitution.Ocampo Sepúlveda, JC. (2009). Pasteurized skimmilk at 4°C was acidified to pH 5.8 with 85.5% phosphoric acid (136g H3Po4;100 kg skimmilk), then warmed to 54°C and ultrafiltered to a protein concentration 9.1 ± 0.2%. The retentate was heated to 76.5°C for 16 s then cooled to 2°C. Phosphoric acid (85.5%) was added at a rate of 3.41g per kg retentate. The acidified retentate was slowly warmed to 29.5 °C (3°C/5 min) when the pH was checked. The pH at this point was no lower than 5.4. Heating was continued until a temperature of 32.2°C was reached. Glucono delta lactone was added to the retentate (17.6 g/kg retentate) and left undisturbed for approximately 80 min. The curd was cut at pH 4.7 with 0.64 cm curd knives and allowed 10 min for syneresis. Permeate obtained from the same lot of milk was acidified to pH 4.8 (66 g H3Po4;100 kg permeate), then added to the curd at 32.2°C (three parts permeate to four parts retentate) and used as a cooking vehicle. The curd was cooked to 59°C in 90 min. The curd was held at 59°C for 10 min, drained and washed once with ice water. Cream dressing containing 12.5% fat and 3% salt was used at the rate of two parts curd to one part dressing. Control cottage cheese was produced by a direct acid method from the same skimmilk used to produce ultrafiltered curd. Use of ultrafiltered skimmilk retentate for cottage cheese making resulted in 2.24% more curd (corrected to 20% solids) and 2.24% more curd per kg original milk protein than the control. However, satisfactory firmness in UF curd required slightly more than 20% solids in the final product. Sensory evaluations indicated that creamed cottage cheese was not significantly different (p \u3c 0.05) from control cheese, but was better than commercial cottage cheese samples selected from the local market

    Trichoscopy of Dark Scalp

    Get PDF
Abstract Trichoscopy (dermoscopy of the hair and scalp) is a technique that improves diagnostic accuracy and follow-up with hair and scalp disorders. Although several studies of trichoscopy have been made in Caucasian and Asian populations, little has been published regarding trichoscopy findings in skin of color, despite the great prevalence of hair diseases in populations with this kind of skin. The aim of this review was to describe the trichoscopic features of normal scalp and of hair disorders in patients with dark skin phototypes. This will help dermatologists to distinguish between unique trichoscopic features of dark skin, and allow them to provide more accurate diagnoses and treatments for these patients

Hydrological modelling is the basis for the comprehensive management of hydrological resources, and in the case of high-mountain watersheds, it involves a complex physicochemical process interaction. This study, conducted in the Chinchiná river watershed (Colombia), poses a multimodel analysis in order to capture the uncertainty associated with the hydrological modelling by means of seven hydrological models, continuous simulation rain-runoff, monthly-scale aggregates, with different complexity levels. The capability to reflect the hydrological response was analyzed through graphical and statistical methods. The results exhibited in the statistical indicators, the hydrographs, and the discharge durationcurves allow a better compression of the runoff in high-mountain watersheds. The Tetis and abcd concept models, as well as the ARMA (1,1) Salas & Smith auto-regressive model, satisfactorily captured the mean discharge, and they could be applied for the estimation in non-appraised watersheds in the zone of the study

Passiflora danielii, an endemic species to Colombia, which is threatened, was rediscovered in the Department of Antioquia, where it has not been reported since 1938. The species was only known from the type locality (Municipality of Cocorná). Now, four new locations are added near it. The current study further presents a revised morphological description of P. danielii based on fresh material, along with an updated distribution map. Finally, following the IUCN Red List Criteria, P. danielii was classified as Critically Endangered (CR) species

Ecthyma gangrenosum: a report of eight cases

Abstract: Ecthyma gangrenosum is a rare skin infection classically associated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa. We performed a retrospective study of all cases diagnosed with ecthyma gangrenosum from 2004-2010 in a university hospital in Mexico (8 cases, 5 female patients and 3 male patients, ages between 4 months and 2 years). The most common risk factor for ecthyma gangrenosum is neutropenia in immunocompromised patients. In previously healthy patients, immunological evaluation is important to rule out underlying immunodeficiency. Ecthyma gangrenosum in healthy patients has a high mortality rate and early diagnosis and aggressive antibiotic treatment is imperative as it can improve patients’ prognosis.

TM in PHEVs is crucial to ensure good components performance and durability in all possible climate scenarios. A drawback of accurate TM solutions is the higher electrical consumption due to the increasing number of low voltage (LV) actuators used in the cooling circuits. Hence, more complex control strategies are needed for minimizing components thermal stress and at the same time electrical consumption. In this context, NMPC arises as a powerful method for achieving multiple objectives in Multiple input- Multiple output systems. This paper proposes an NMPC for the TM of the High Voltage (HV) battery and the power electronics (PE) cooling circuit in a PHEV. It distinguishes itself from the previously NMPC reported methods in the automotive sector by the complexity of its controlled plant which is highly nonlinear and controlled by numerous variables. The implemented model of the plant, which is based on experimental data and multi- domain physical equations, has been validated using six different driving cycles logged in a real vehicle, obtaining a maximum error, in comparison with the real temperatures, of 2C. For one of the six cycles, an NMPC software-in-the loop (SIL) is presented, where the models inside the controller and for the controlled plant are the same. This simulation is compared to the finite-state machine-based strategy performed in the real vehicle. The results show that NMPC keeps the battery at healthier temperatures and in addition reduces the cooling electrical consumption by more than 5%. In terms of the objective function, an accumulated and weighted sum of the two goals, this improvement amounts 30%. Finally, the online SIL presented in this paper, suggests that the used optimizer is fast enough for a future implementation in the vehicle.Accepted versio

Abstract: Background: Vitiligo is characterized by a lack of pigmentation in the skin. To date, there are no studies that analyze the changes in gene expression in the skin of vitiligo patients in response to narrow-band ultraviolet B (nb-UVB) phototherapy treatment. oBjective: Explore the usefulness of new generation RNA sequencing in the identification of gene expression changes in the skin of vitiligo patients treated with nb-UVB phototherapy. Methods: Four skin biopsies (4mm in diameter) were collected from 45 Mexican vitiligo vulgaris patients, 2 specimens before and 2 after treatment with nb-UVB phototherapy, obtained from pigmented and non-pigmented tissue. RNA extracted from the biopsies was analyzed using the Illumina TruSeq Targeted RNA Expression protocol to study the expression of genes that participate in pathways of skin homeostasis. The 2 groups were compared using Student’s t-test and the Mann-Whitney U-test. results: The expression analysis identified differences in 12 genes included in this study after comparing the samples obtained before and after treatment: 5 genes involved in skin pigmentation, 2 genes involved in apoptosis, 2 genes involved in cell survival, 2 genes involved in oxidative stress responses and 1 gene involved in signal transduction mechanisms (p<0.05). study liMitations: The small size of skin biopsies limits the amount of RNA obtained, the number of genes to be analyzed and the use of conventional techniques such as RT-qPCR. conclusion: We demonstrated usefulness of new generation RNA sequencing in the identification of gene expression changes, in addition to identifying new targets in the study of vitiligo.
