The increase in global energy needs and restrictions on fossil fuels, has encouraged an increase in the use of renewable energy resources in the electricity grid. We are seeing an increasing penetration in the market of direct current (DC) energy sources and loads (Example, wind/photovoltaic energy and electric vehicles). Knowing that there was a need to control energy flow in the distribution network. Knowing that passive transformers are susceptible to DC displacement and have no controllability when used in smart grids. Solid State Transformer (SST) are identified as a potential solution to modernize and harmonize alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) electrical networks, as well as suitable for traction and industry applications. This dissertation was developed to share an overview on SST, concepts, topologies, classification, energy converters, selection of materials, limitations, applications and, in particular, the use of SST in charging electric vehicles. A network of charging infrastructures for electric vehicles is essential for the successful adoption and diffusion of the electric vehicle. The electric vehicle has established itself as one of the solutions for sustainable mobility that can contribute to the country's external independence from fossil fuels and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

This article aims to elucidate the relation between Fernando Pessoa, Schopenhauer and the problem of free-will, based on the reading that the Portuguese author made of the Schopenhauerian work. Indeed, throughout Pessoa’s writings one finds multiple testimonies of the reading that the Portuguese poet and thinker made of Schopenhauerian thought. An important indication for the study of Pessoa’s reappropriation of Schopenhauer’s thought is found in Fernando Pessoa’s Private Library, where one finds a French translation of Über die Freiheit des menschlichen Willens. The reading of this book would lead to the production of a multiplicity of philosophical writings that Fernando Pessoa attributes to two of his English fictitious literary personalities from the pre-heteronymic universe: Charles Robert Anon and Alexander Search. Thus, based on all these indications, we intend to show the impact of Schopenhauer’s reading on Pessoa’s literary universe.O presente artigo visa elucidar as relações entre Fernando Pessoa, Schopenhauer e a questão do livre arbítrio, tendo por base a leitura que o autor português fez da obra schopenhaueriana.

Mammals are threatened worldwide, with 26% of all species being includedin the IUCN threatened categories. This overall pattern is primarily associatedwith habitat loss or degradation, and human persecution for terrestrial mam-mals, and pollution, open net fishing, climate change, and prey depletion formarine mammals. Mammals play a key role in maintaining ecosystems func-tionality and resilience, and therefore information on their distribution is cru-cial to delineate and support conservation actions. MAMMALS INPORTUGAL is a publicly available data set compiling unpublishedgeoreferenced occurrence records of 92 terrestrial, volant, and marine mam-mals in mainland Portugal and archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira thatincludes 105,026 data entries between 1873 and 2021 (72% of the data occur-ring in 2000 and 2021). The methods used to collect the data were: live obser-vations/captures (43%), sign surveys (35%), camera trapping (16%),bioacoustics surveys (4%) and radiotracking, and inquiries that represent lessthan 1% of the records. The data set includes 13 types of records: (1) burrowsjsoil moundsjtunnel, (2) capture, (3) colony, (4) dead animaljhairjskullsjjaws, (5) genetic confirmation, (6) inquiries, (7) observation of live animal (8),observation in shelters, (9) photo trappingjvideo, (10) predators dietjpelletsjpine cones/nuts, (11) scatjtrackjditch, (12) telemetry and (13) vocalizationjecholocation. The spatial uncertainty of most records ranges between 0 and100 m (76%). Rodentia (n=31,573) has the highest number of records followedby Chiroptera (n=18,857), Carnivora (n=18,594), Lagomorpha (n=17,496),Cetartiodactyla (n=11,568) and Eulipotyphla (n=7008). The data setincludes records of species classified by the IUCN as threatened(e.g.,Oryctolagus cuniculus[n=12,159],Monachus monachus[n=1,512],andLynx pardinus[n=197]). We believe that this data set may stimulate thepublication of other European countries data sets that would certainly contrib-ute to ecology and conservation-related research, and therefore assisting onthe development of more accurate and tailored conservation managementstrategies for each species. SARS-CoV-2 introductions and early dynamics of the epidemic in Portugal

    Get PDF
Genomic surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 in Portugal was rapidly implemented by the National Institute of Health in the early stages of the COVID-19 epidemic, in collaboration with more than 50 laboratories distributed nationwide. Methods By applying recent phylodynamic models that allow integration of individual-based travel history, we reconstructed and characterized the spatio-temporal dynamics of SARSCoV-2 introductions and early dissemination in Portugal. Results We detected at least 277 independent SARS-CoV-2 introductions, mostly from European countries (namely the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Italy, and Switzerland), which were consistent with the countries with the highest connectivity with Portugal. Although most introductions were estimated to have occurred during early March 2020, it is likely that SARS-CoV-2 was silently circulating in Portugal throughout February, before the first cases were confirmed. Conclusions Here we conclude that the earlier implementation of measures could have minimized the number of introductions and subsequent virus expansion in Portugal. This study lays the foundation for genomic epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2 in Portugal, and highlights the need for systematic and geographically-representative genomic surveillance. We gratefully acknowledge to Sara Hill and Nuno Faria (University of Oxford) and Joshua Quick and Nick Loman (University of Birmingham) for kindly providing us with the initial sets of Artic Network primers for NGS; Rafael Mamede (MRamirez team, IMM, Lisbon) for developing and sharing a bioinformatics script for sequence curation (https://github.com/rfm-targa/BioinfUtils); Philippe Lemey (KU Leuven) for providing guidance on the implementation of the phylodynamic models; Joshua L. Goethe, Spengler e a morfologia da linguagem em Wittgenstein

UID/ELT/00657/2013 SFRH/BPD/121514/2016This article presents the importance of Goethe's and Spengler's morphology for the development of a morphology of language in Wittgenstein's work, after his return to Cambridge and philosophy in 1929. In fact, according to Norman Malcolm's testimony, present in Ludwig Wittgenstein: A memoir, Wittgenstein says, in the course of his lectures about philosophical psychology, which took place between 1946 and 1947, that what his philosophy try to give is the morphology of the use of an expression. The development of a morphology of the use of an expression in Wittgenstein would become the result of the application to the domain of language of the concept of morphology applied by Goethe, in his scientific writings, to the domain of nature and by Oswald Spengler to the field of the universal history, as one sees in the work The Decline of the West - Sketch of a Morphology of the History of the World, which constitutes for Wittgenstein one of the sources to access fundamental aspects of Goethe's morphology. Throughout Wittgenstein's writings one finds several references to the thoughts of Goethe and Spengler which enable us to understand in what extent the works of these two thinkers constitute the basis for the construction of a wittgensteinian morphology of language. Thus, taking all these elements into consideration, we'll try to elucidate to what extent Wittgenstein's morphological-philosophical method after 1929 is the reelaboration of fundamental aspects of the morphological tradition present in the works of Goethe and Spengler.publishersversionpublishe
