Genotoxicity Revaluation of Three Commercial Nitroheterocyclic Drugs: Nifurtimox, Benznidazole, and Metronidazole

Nitroheterocyclic compounds are widely used as therapeutic agents against a variety of protozoan and bacterial infections. However, the literature on these compounds, suspected of being carcinogens, is widely controversial. In this study, cytotoxic and genotoxic potential of three drugs, Nifurtimox (NFX), Benznidazole (BNZ), and Metronidazole (MTZ) was re-evaluated by different assays. Only NFX reduces survival rate in actively proliferating cells. The compounds are more active for base-pair substitution than frameshift induction in Salmonella; NFX and BNZ are more mutagenic than MTZ; they are widely dependent from nitroreduction whereas microsomal fraction S9 weakly affects the mutagenic potential. Comet assay detects BNZ- and NFX-induced DNA damage at doses in the range of therapeutically treated patient plasma concentration; BNZ seems to mainly act through ROS generation whereas a dose-dependent mechanism of DNA damaging is suggested for NFX. The lack of effects on mammalian cells for MTZ is confirmed also in MN assay whereas MN induction is observed for NFX and BNZ. The effects of MTZ, that shows comparatively low reduction potential, seem to be strictly dependent on anaerobic/hypoxic conditions. Both NFX and BNZ may not only lead to cellular damage of the infective agent but also interact with the DNA of mammalian cells

Chemical Risk: Criação de um Jogo Didático para o Ensino de Biossegurança

Chemical Risk is an educational project that aims to demonstrate the use of games in education through the development of a digital game, whose first goal is the establishment of Biosafety’s key concepts. This proposal promotes a reflection about the traditional teaching model and proposes a new concept that allies itself to the technologic evolution, thus suggesting new ways of knowledge transmission. In order to provide to the players a practice learning about the biosafety’s concepts, this project proposal deals justly with the familiarization of the student with such concepts, since it will permit the simulation of a chemical accident in a laboratorial environment, allowing the student to apply and to consolidate the concepts learned in the classroom. Refere-se a uma reflexão sobre o modelo de ensino tradicional e propõe um novo conceito que alia-se à evolução tecnológica, sugerindo assim, novas formas de transmissão de conhecimento. A fim de proporcionar aos jogadores uma prática para aprender sobre os conceitos de biossegurança, este projeto trata justamente da familiarização do aluno com tais conceitos, uma vez que irá permitir a simulação de um acidente químico em um ambiente laboratorial, dando ao aluno a possibilidade de aplicar e consolidar os conceitos que aprendeu em sala de aula. A democratização de gênero na radiodifusão

Este trabalho visa a analisar as possibilidades de efetivação da igualdade de gênero na radiodifusão brasileira. Primeiramente, analisar-se-ão as normas que definem os objetivos da radiodifusão, quais sejam, a Constituição Federal e as diversas normas internacionais firmadas pelo Brasil. Após, analisar-se-ão os instrumentos internos para a consecução desses objetivos. Serão expostas as normas referentes à fiscalização do poder concedente nas permissões e concessões de rádio e televisão e as medidas constantes do II Plano Nacional de Políticas para as Mulheres. Na terceira parte deste trabalho, serão apresentadas as duas principais normas argentinas atinentes à matéria: a Lei de Proteção Integral às Mulheres e a Lei dos Meios Audiovisuais. Ao final, serão traçadas algumas considerações e propostas modificações sobre os instrumentos brasileiros, utilizando as normas argentinas como auxiliares.This study aims to examine the possibilities of realization of gender equality in Brazilian broadcasting. First, we will examine the standards that define the objectives of broadcasting, namely, the Federal Constitution and various international standards signed by Brazil. Following, we will examine the implications of these goals in the rules regarding the supervision of the granting of permits and concessions in radio and television, and in the II National Plan for Women. In the third part of this work we will present the two main Argentinean laws regarding the issue: the Law the Integral Protection of Women and the Law on Audiovisual Media. In the end, we will present some considerations and proposals on the Brazilian instruments, considering the examples from the Argentinean system
