Impact of Trade Facilitation on Export Competitiveness: a Regional Perspective
After decades of war and internal conflict, Cambodia is now an emerging economy and a new democracy. The country's economy is highly dependent on external assistance and a few crucial industries such as agriculture, tourism, and most importantly, garment manufacturing for export.Trade, Transport, Facilitation, Cambodia, garment, export
Why do people opt-out or not opt-out of automatic enrolment? A focus group study of automatic enrolment into a workplace pension in the United Kingdom
Automatic enrolment (AE) into a workplace pension is an important recent development in pension policy. An important question for this policy is why do people opt-out or not opt-out of AE? This question is important for understanding the power of suggestion associated with AE as well as responding to concerns that women might face undue pressure to opt-out. This article addresses this question through a focus group study into the United Kingdom’s new AE policy. Women were more likely than men to cite lack of affordability as a reason for opting out. Lack of information also seemed important for the power of suggestion associated with AE. Further research should explore how to make AE less gender blind as well as the types of information or advice that should be provided alongside AE
Young People, Social Media, and Impacts on Well-being
Millennials and Generation Z were born into an age where social media and digital technology have been integrated in nearly all aspects of their lives. While social media has proven to be a valuable communication tool in connecting with each other and sharing information, the long-term psychosocial effects are beginning to become more apparent as social media matures. This study analyzes what these effects are and how communication is impacted for these young people. It questions how young people can leverage social media and decrease harm. The study will be conducted through a literature review and analysis. Its goal is to synthesize the current knowledge on social media well-being and how it relates to young people, specifically Millennials and Generation Z, in order to ultimately recommend strategies to optimize well-being in the digital age
A Comparison of Labor Contract Conversion Rules in Cambodia and Japan
This paper firstly discusses the rules on contract conversion in Cambodia, secondly examines the rules on contract conversion in Japan, thirdly compares Cambodian’s and Japan’s contract conversion rules, and finally recommends proposals for improvement of the rules regarding contract conversion in Cambodia. In Cambodia, the contract conversion rules are compulsory, while the conversion rules in Japan respect the worker’s will to convert the contract. In Cambodia, if a fixed-duration contract fulfills certain conditions for automatic conversion, the contract will be transformed into an undetermined duration labor contract. Any agreement of the parties contrary to these rules is void. In Japan, if the worker has been working longer than five years and requests the employer to conclude the labor contract of an undetermined duration, the employer must accept such a request. In conclusion, this paper suggests that the compulsory conversion rules in Cambodia should be maintained and that Japan’s rule on the guarantee for the continuation of employment (by prohibiting the employer from unjustly rejecting the worker’s request for renewal or concluding new fixed duration upon expiry of the existing contract) should be adopted in Cambodia through an amendment to the Labor Law.departmental bulletin pape
Public Knowledge, Concern and Engagement of Climate Change in Cambodia-A Perspective of Residents in Phnom Penh
This paper explored the public knowledge, concern and engagement (KCE) of climate change (CC) in Cambodia. The study used a survey questionnaire to collect the data from public respondents through online and face-to-face distribution. There were 468 respondents fully completed the questionnaire in which 196 were completed via online and 272 filled in paper-based questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed by using SPSS and the structural topic modeling (STM) was used. The result indicated that the participants had high knowledge about CC; they believed human activities are the main cause of the CC. Almost 60% revealed that CC brings both positive and negative effects to the earth. More interestingly, the major concerns of respondents were the excessive temperature and the change of rainfall pattern. In addition, the participants believed the government plays the leading role in response to CC in Cambodia. More than 40% agreed that fiscal and taxation policies can perform a positive role in dealing with CC. Last, but not least, almost 60% thought personal behavior is important to respond to CC and nearly 64% of respondents is willing to make their contribution to cope with CC. Further analysis showed that only gender, education level and occupation of respondents were significantly associated with their knowledge about CC. Thus, these factors affect the degree of participants’ understanding about CC. Keywords: Knowledge, Concern, Engagement, Climate Change, Cambodi
Putting our money where their mouth is: alignment of charitable aims with charity investments - tensions in policy and practice
Given the values-driven nature of the mission of most charities, it might be expected that investment behaviour would be similarly values-driven. This paper documents the ethical investment policies and practices of the largest UK charities and explores how these are aligned with the charitable aims, drawing upon accountability, behavioural and managerial perspectives as theoretical lenses. The study employs two distinct research methods: responses to a postal questionnaire and follow-up semi-structured interviews with selected charities. The evidence indicates that a significant minority of large charities do not have a written ethical investment policy. Charities with larger investments, fundraising charities and religious charities were more likely to have a written ethical policy. We suggest that there is a pressing need for improved alignment between charities' aims and their investment practices and better monitoring of investment policies
A Concept Analysis of Attitude toward Getting Vaccinated against Human Papillomavirus
In the research literature, the concept of attitude has been used and presented widely. However, attitude has been inconsistently defined and measured in various terms. This paper presents a concept analysis, using the Wilsonian methods modified by Walker and Avant (2004), to define and clarify the concept of attitude in order to provide an operationalized definition for a research study on attitudes toward a behavior: getting vaccinated against HPV. While the finding is not conclusive, three attributes of attitude: belief, affection, and evaluation are described. A theoretical definition and sample cases are constructed to illustrate the concept further. Antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents are discussed. Recommendations regarding the use of the concept of attitude in research, nursing practice, and nursing education are also made
Design and construction of sensing part of the cimbalon
Semestrální práce je zaměřena na návrh několika možných způsobů provedení snímání strun, případně tzv. virtuálních strun elektronického cimbalonu. Práce vychází z problematiky konstrukčních vlastností klasického cimbálu a jeho způsobu tvorby tónů. U jednotlivých navržených metod jsem využil poznatky o snímání elektrických kytar, o funkci laserové harfy, o možnostech midi kontrolerů a o vlastnostech elektretových mikrofonů. Většinu metod jsem již zkonstruoval a prověřil v praxi. Některé stále ještě zhotovuji a jejich ověření zařadím do navazující bakalářské práce.This term paper focuses on the design of several possible methods of electroacoustic transduction (further called pickup), specifically of virtual strings of the electronic cimbalom. The paper is based on the problems associated with the classical cimbalom’s design, as well as with its method of tone production. For each of the proposed methods I have made use of my own experiences with guitar pickup, laser harp function, MIDI controller capabilities, and the properties of electret microphones. Most of the methods are ones that I developed and tested in practice, some of which I am still working on and will include in my subsequent Bachelor’s thesis.
