    DEI: Exploring academic reflections using natural language processing to create a roadmap of student success and foster inclusive engineering education

    Every year, the College of Engineering (CENG) students and faculty reach out to admitted students through “Text-a-Thon” programs to answer their questions about being a student at Cal Poly. In order to improve CENG outreach efforts, we analyzed these text conversations to predict the likelihood of an admitted student accepting an offer of admission from Cal Poly. Through our research, we discovered key factors that play a role in a student committing to Cal Poly through data-based insights. Additionally, we successfully used a human-on-the-loop system to help create Machine Learning (ML) models that predict satisfaction of response by way of sentiment analysis

    The Semantic Web ( Web 3.03.0) has been proposed as an efficient way to access the increasingly large amounts of data on the internet. The Linked Open Data Cloud project at present is the major effort to implement the concepts of the Seamtic Web, addressing the problems of in homogeneity and large data volumes. RKBExplorer is one of many repositories implementing Open Data and contains considerable bibliographic information. Th is paper discusses bibliographic data data, an important part of cloud data. Effective searching of bibliographic datasets can be a challenge as many of the papers residing in these databases do not have sufficient or comprehensive keyword information. In these cases however, a search engine based on RKBExplorer is only able to use information to retrieve papers based on author names and title of papers without keywords keywords. In this paper we attempt to address this problem by using the data mining algorithm Association Rule Mining (ARM ) to develop keywords based on features retrieved from Resource Description Framework (RDF) data within a bibliographic citation. We have demonstrate the applicability of this method for predicting missing keywords for bibliographic entries in several typical databases

    On April 20, the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon led to a substantial oil spill catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico. The spill caused the death of 11 people and also took a vast toll on the marine environment, suffocating many populations of sea-life. Progress has been made in containing the spill since the initial impact. ECU professor Siddhartha Mitra is conducting research to establish the effects of the spill. Mitra began his research in May and speaks enthusiastically about his ongoing efforts

    Morbidly adherent placenta: management is real challenge

    Background: The objective of the present study was to describe management of morbidly adherent placenta with placenta previa and feto-maternal outcome.Methods: All antenatal USG diagnosed cases of morbidly adherent placenta were analyzed. The cases were managed by elective caesarean hysterectomy and non-separation of placenta at delivery. Amount of blood loss, blood transfused, ICU admission, postnatal complications and hospital stay was recorded.Results: From January 2010 to October 2018, 22 cases of morbidly adherent placenta were diagnosed on gray scale and color Doppler during antenatal ultrasound scan. Scheduled caesarean hysterectomy without attempting placental removal was done. Subtotal hysterectomy was performed in 17(77.2%) cases and total hysterectomy in remaining 5(22.8%) cases. All the patients required blood transfusion.  Seven (31.8%) patients had urinary bladder injury. One case developed DIC and One needed ventilatory support. No patient died in this series.Conclusions: Antenatal diagnosed cases of morbidly adherent placenta, avoidance of placental separation and caesarean hysterectomy results in better maternal outcome

    DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION OF RP-HPLC METHOD FOR THE ESTIMATION OF OLANZAPINE IN MARKETED FORMULATION

    A simple, accurate, precise and rapid stability indicating RP-HPLC method was developed and validated for the analysis of Olanzapine in marketed formulation. Analysis was performed on a C-18 (250mm x 4.60mm, 5 µm) column as stationary phase and using mobile phase which was Potassium di-hydrogen phosphate Buffer (pH 6): Acetonitrile (60:40) (v/v) at a flow rate of 1ml/min with UV detection at 258 nm at constant room temperature. The injection volume was 20 µl and the chromatographic runtime of 5 min was used. Proposed method was found to be linear in the range of 5-25 μg/ml with the correlation coefficient 0.998. The validation and the reliability of proposed method were assessed by recovery study. The recovery of added standards (80%, 100% 120%) was ranging from 99.58% - 100.50%. The robustness of developed method was checked by changing temperature, flow rate and mobile phase ratio

    Building public health capacity in Madhya Pradesh through academic partnership

    Engaging in partnerships is a strategic means of achieving objectives common to each partner. The Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health Management (PGDPHM) partners in consultation with the government and aims to strengthen the public health managerial capacity. This case study examines the PGDPHM program conducted jointly by the Public Health Foundation of India and the Government of Madhya Pradesh (GoMP) at the State Institute of Health Management and Communication, Gwalior, which is the apex training and research institute of the state government for health professionals. This is an example of collaborative partnership between an academic institution and the Department of Public Health and Family Welfare, GoMP. PGDPHM is a 1-year, fully residential course with a strong component of field-based project work, and aims to bridge the gap in public health managerial capacity of the health system through training of health professionals. The program is uniquely designed in the context of the National Rural Health Mission and uses a multidisciplinary approach with a focus on inter-professional education. The curriculum is competency driven and health systems connected and the pedagogy uses a problem-solving approach with multidisciplinary faculty from different programs and practice backgrounds that bring rich field experience to the classroom. This case study presents the successful example of the interface between academia and the health system and of common goals achieved through this partnership for building capacity of health professionals in the state of Madhya Pradesh over the past 3 years

    Turning a "useless" ligand into a "useful" ligand:a magneto-structural study of an unusual family of Cu(II) wheels derived from functionalised phenolic oximes

    While the phenolic oximes (R-saoH(2)) are well known for producing monometallic complexes of the type [MII(R-saoH)(2)] with Cu-II ions in near quantitative yield, their derivatisation opens the door to much more varied and interesting coordination chemistry. Here we show that combining the complimentary diethanolamine and phenolic oxime moieties into one organic framework (H4L1 and H4L2) allows for the preparation and isolation of an unusual family of [Cu-II](n) wheels, including saddle-shaped, single-stranded [Cu-8(II)] wheels of general formula [Cu-8(HL1)(4)(X)(4)] n[Y] (when n = 0, X = Cl-, NO3-, AcO-, N-3(-); when n = 2+X = (OAc)(2)/(2,2'-bpy)(2) and Y = [BF4](2)) and [Cu-8(HL2)(4)(X)(4)](X = Cl-, Br-), a rectangular [Cu-6(HL1)(4)] wheel, and a heterometallic [Cu4Na2(HL1)2(H2L1)(2)] hexagon. Magnetic studies show very strong antiferromagnetic exchange between neighbouring metal ions, leading to diamagnetic ground states in all cases. DFT studies reveal that the magnitude of the exchange constants are correlated to the Cu-N-O-Cu dihedral angles, which in turn are correlated to the planarity/puckering of the [Cu-II](n) rings
