    ARE TRADES RELATED TO TECHNOLOGY? EVIDENCES FROM THE BALTIC STATES: ESTONIA, LATVIA AND LITHUANIA

    This paper provides empirical evidences from the Baltic States on the relationship between technology and trades. In this study, regression and correlation analysis were employed an attempt to reveal the relationship between technology index and net-export coefficient, as well as the relationship between technology index and import coefficient. In this research, technology level was measured by technology index, while trades included of domestic and foreign trades; export and import. The data used for this study were collected from world input-output databases of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania for the period 2000, 2005, 2010, and 2014. The findings remarked that the relationship between technology and domestic trade was positive and statistically significant. The result of the study implies that the higher was the technology index leads to the higher domestic transaction. Furthermore, relationship between technology and net-export was unpredictable. In year 2000, data from Estonia and Latvia showed that the relationship between variables was negative and in other years of the study, the relationship was positive. However, the relationship between variables was not statistically significant. Lastly, the relationship between technology and import was negative and statistically significant. It implies that the higher was technology index, will have a consequence the smaller was import

    Impact of Problem-Based Learning on Student Achievement in Economics Course

    The purpose of this study investigated and understand impact of Problem-Based Learning on students’ achievement in the economic course through lesson study. This kind a classroom action research in the subject of money and bank in order to participate in solving problems related materials. The Subject of this study is Grade 9 student in academic year 2016/2017. The implementation classroom action research conducted in two cycles comprising Planning, Implementation, observing, and reflection stages. The result of this study that Problem-Based Learning through lessons has been well implemented including the completeness of the learning tools and preparing the Lesson Plans before teaching on each teaching material.     Providing Assessment Model to Diminish Free Rider and Enhance Students’ Cooperative Skills

    This study aims to propose a concept innovation model: EDDPEA (Envision, Design, Develop, Presentation, Enhance, Assessment) as an attempt to diminish the free-rider issue and raise university students’ collaborative skills. The study involved a research development approach using the ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate) model to develop an innovative learning model for university students. This approach was adopted to develop a product that is effectively involved in learning. In this research, we employed questionnaires in measuring the validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The findings of this study indicate that the EDDPEA follows six stages, including envision, design, develop, present, enhance, and assessment. Each stage can involve students’ attention to a particular given topic. Additionally, this innovative learning model can be used for entrepreneurship subjects as attempting to diminish the free-rider issue in a workgroup and it can be elaborated with other relevant subjects. This paper will provide a prior understanding on how to diminish free-rider issue in work group learning

    MACROECONOMIC INDICATORS AND FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT IN INDONESIA

    ABSTRACTIndonesia has abundant diversity of resources to promote economic growth, and insufficient capital will lead to economic stagnation. This paper aims at examining the impact of macroeconomic indicators such as gross domestic product and inflation toward foreign direct investment in Indonesia as well as investigating the ease of doing business factors in explaining foreign direct investment. This research involved a time-series from 2014 to 2019, which was collected from several official websites of Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Central Bank of Indonesia (BI), the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), and World Bank. Furthermore, the data were analyzed undergoing multiple linear regression analyses with the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) model. The findings indicate that gross domestic product has a positive impact on foreign direct investment, while inflation has a negative effect. Also, the ease of doing business variables failed in explaining a significant influence between foreign direct investment in Indonesia.ABSTRAKIndonesia memiliki keanekaragaman sumber daya yang melimpah untuk mendorong pertumbuhan ekonomi namun permasalahan permodalan menyebabkan kelambanan yang menyebabkan stagnasi ekonomi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh indikator makroekonomi seperti produk domestik bruto dan inflasi terhadap investasi asing langsung di Indonesia. Penelitian ini juga menyelidiki faktor-faktor kemudahan berbisnis dalam menjelaskan investasi asing langsung. Data penelitian ini adalah time-series 2014-2019, yang diperoleh dari beberapa situs resmi termasuk Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS), Bank Sentral Indonesia (BI), Badan Koordinasi Penanaman Modal (BKPM), dan Bank Dunia. Selanjutnya data tersebut dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis regresi linier berganda dengan model Ordinary Least Square (OLS). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa produk domestik bruto berpengaruh positif terhadap investasi asing langsung, sedangkan inflasi berpengaruh negatif. Selain itu, variabel kemudahan berbisnis gagal menjelaskan pengaruh yang signifikan antara investasi asing langsung di Indonesia

    Debate-Based Learning and Its Impact on Students’ Critical Thinking Skills

    This study aims at understanding the implementation of debate-based learning models on critical thinking skill of economic students in senior high school. This research was conducted in a senior high school in Malang particularly in SMA Laboratory UM. The study applied a classroom action research by comparing students’ critical thinking skills during research period. The level of critical thinking skill adopted Structure Observed Learning Outcome (SOLO) Taxonomy which consisting of Prestructural, Unistructural, Multistuctural, Relational, and Extended Abstract Thinking Skills. The findings showed that a remarkable change of students’ critical thinking skills during cycles. The average of post-test score between cycles increased by 11.9 percent. In addition, the level of students critical thinking skill was dominated by Prestructural, Unistructural, Multistructural then it move noticeably to the greater level which is Multistructural, Relational and Extended Abstract. From these results,it can be concluded that the implementation of debate-based learning can stimulate students’ learning activities and critical thinking skills.Keywords: Debate-Based Learning, Critical Thinking, Students’ Activitie

    The Readiness of Village Unit Cooperative in Facing Economic Competition and Globalization

    This study aims to investigate the continuance of village unit cooperative, the management, and preparation in facing business competition and globalization. This study employed a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach to gain an understanding of the phenomenon. Three village unit cooperatives were involved as a research subject in the area of oil palm plantations in Muaro of Jambi municipalities. The findings indicate that the village unit cooperative has been able to provide better prosperity for its members. Second, the village unit cooperative does not have a more advanced and modern business plan to compete in the current era. However, the business undertaken is a monopoly that makes it village unit cooperatives difficult to compete with other parties

    Determinant Factors Driving Vocational Schools Students’ Intention to Use E-Learning

    The involvement of e-learning in entrepreneurship education has invited the attention of scholars in developed and developing countries throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. This paper examines the determinant factors driving intention to adopt e-learning entrepreneurship among vocational school students in Indonesia. A quantitative research method employed a survey model to explain in detail how the effect of endogenous variables on exogenous variables either directly or through moderator variables. A total of 430 vocational students in Jakarta of Indonesia were involved in this study and collected using the convenience technique. We are adopting Structural Equation Modeling (SEM-PLS) to estimate the proposed model. The findings indicate that teacher characteristic, learning content, playfulness, students’ perceived usefulness, and ease of use have a strong impact on the intention to use e-learning in entrepreneurship. The study also notes that variables perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use successfully moderated the effect of teacher characteristics, design of learning contents, and playfulness on the intention to use e-learning entrepreneurship. The findings of this research are the first step in studying the enactment of e-learning in entrepreneurship education

    Financial literacy is one focus of attention of the government in Indonesia. It becomes important because due to a wide range of individuals faced with complex choices about financial services, such as the use of banking services, insurance, capital markets, and a wide range of investment products with the use of which in this case required knowledge, understanding so that they can use or choose the financial products and services. The results of this study found that the level of penetration of insurance ownership is still low. The research data was obtained from interviews and field studies with some insurance agents. From the data obtained by the average person who has studied middle-income, even though, in reality they do not necessarily want to buy products caused less understanding the financial product.     Does Leadership Effectiveness Matter for Indonesia Vocational Teacher Performance? The Mediating Role of Work Motivation

    Enhancing teacher performance is a global challenge and understanding managerial sides, and motivation can be used to deal with this issue. The purpose of this study aimed at examining the impact of leadership effectiveness and teacher performance in vocational school, as well as investigating the role of work motivation. A quantitative method was adopted to improve understanding of this phenomenon. The participants of this study were recruited from the vocational school teachers in East Java by distributing online questionnaires employing WhatsApp. The findings of this study showed that effective leadership positively influenced both work motivation and teacher performance. Indeed, work motivation can explain the relationship between effective leadership and vocational teacher performance. Based on the results, it is recommended to the education office, school principals, vocational teachers to pay more attention to the effectiveness of leadership, and work motivation to improve teacher performance. This study recommends that school principals and educational policymakers pay attention to the matters of leadership and work motivation as the essential factor in driving teacher performance
