Symmetries between Untwisted and Twisted Strings on Asymmetric Orbifolds
We study symmetries between untwisted and twisted strings on asymmetric
orbifolds. We present a list of asymmetric orbifold models to possess
intertwining currents which convert untwisted string states to twisted ones,
and vice versa. We also present a list of heterotic strings on asymmetric
orbifolds with supersymmetry between untwisted and twisted string states. Some
of properties inherent in asymmetric orbifolds, which are not shared by

BPS mass spectrum from D-brane action
We derive the BPS mass formulae of the Dirichlet branes from the Born-Infeld
type action. BPS saturation is realized when the brane has the minimal volume
while keeping the appropriate winding numbers. We apply the idea to two cases,
type IIA superstring compactified on and . The result is consistent
with the string duality, and the expected spectrum for the BPS states is

Comment on the Generation Number in Orbifold Compactifications
There has been some confusion concerning the number of -forms in
orbifold compactifications of the heterotic string in numerous publications. In
this note we point out the relevance of the underlying torus lattice on this
number. We answer the question when different lattices mimic the same physics
and when this is not the case. As a byproduct we classify all symmetric
-orbifolds with world sheet supersymmetry obtaining also some new

Network-wide Configuration Synthesis
Computer networks are hard to manage. Given a set of high-level requirements
(e.g., reachability, security), operators have to manually figure out the
individual configuration of potentially hundreds of devices running complex
distributed protocols so that they, collectively, compute a compatible
forwarding state. Not surprisingly, operators often make mistakes which lead to
downtimes. To address this problem, we present a novel synthesis approach that
automatically computes correct network configurations that comply with the
operator's requirements. We capture the behavior of existing routers along with
the distributed protocols they run in stratified Datalog. Our key insight is to
reduce the problem of finding correct input configurations to the task of
synthesizing inputs for a stratified Datalog program. To solve this synthesis
task, we introduce a new algorithm that synthesizes inputs for stratified
Datalog programs. This algorithm is applicable beyond the domain of networks.
We leverage our synthesis algorithm to construct the first network-wide
configuration synthesis system, called SyNET, that support multiple interacting
routing protocols (OSPF and BGP) and static routes. We show that our system is
practical and can infer correct input configurations, in a reasonable amount
time, for networks of realistic size (> 50 routers) that forward packets for

Solar cycle influence on the interaction of the solar wind with Local Interstellar Cloud
We present results of a new time-dependent kinetic model of the H atom penetration through the solar wind - interstellar medium interaction region. A kinetic 6D (time, two dimensions in space, and three dimensions in velocity-space) equation for interstellar H atoms was solved self-consistently with time-dependent Euler equations for the solar wind and interstellar charged components. We study the response of the interaction region to 11-year solar cycle variations of the solar wind dynamic pressure. It is shown that the termination shock location varies within ±7 AU, the heliopause variation is ~4 AU, and the bow shock variation is negligible. At large heliocentric distances, the solar cycle induces 10-12% fluctuations in the number density of both primary and secondary interstellar H atoms and atoms created in the inner heliosheath. We underline the kinetic behavior of the fluctuations of the H atom populations. Closer to the Sun the fluctuations increase up to 30-35% at 5 AU due to solar cycle variation of the charge exchange rate. Solar cycle variations of interstellar H atoms in the heliospheric interface and within the heliosphere may have major importance for the interpretation of H atom observations inside the heliosphere
An Introduction to T-Duality in String Theory
In these lectures a general introduction to T-duality is given. In the
abelian case the approaches of Buscher, and Ro\u{c}ek and Verlinde are
reviewed. Buscher's prescription for the dilaton transformation is recovered
from a careful definition of the gauge integration measure. It is also shown
how duality can be understood as a quite simple canonical transformation. Some
aspects of non-abelian duality are also discussed, in particular what is known
on relation to canonical transformations. Some implications of the existence of
duality on the cosmological constant and the definition of distance in String

Randomised prospective trial to assess the clinical utility of multianalyte assay panel with complement activation products for the diagnosis of SLE.
Objective: We compared the physician-assessed diagnostic likelihood of SLE resulting from standard diagnosis laboratory testing (SDLT) to that resulting from multianalyte assay panel (MAP) with cell-bound complement activation products (MAP/CB-CAPs), which reports a two-tiered index test result having 80% sensitivity and 86% specificity for SLE.
Methods: Patients (n=145) with a history of positive antinuclear antibody status were evaluated clinically by rheumatologists and randomised to SDLT arm (tests ordered at the discretion of the rheumatologists) or to MAP/CB-CAPs testing arm. The primary endpoint was based on the change in the physician likelihood of SLE on a five-point Likert scale collected before and after testing. Changes in pharmacological treatment based on laboratory results were assessed in both arms. Statistical analysis consisted of Wilcoxon and Fisher\u27s exact tests.
Results: At enrolment, patients randomised to SDLT (n=73, age=48±2 years, 94% females) and MAP/CB-CAPs testing arms (n=72, 50±2 years, 93% females) presented with similar pretest likelihood of SLE (1.42±0.06 vs 1.46±0.06 points, respectively; p=0.68). Post-test likelihood of SLE resulting from randomisation in the MAP/CB-CAPs testing arm was significantly lower than that resulting from randomisation to SDLT arm on review of test results (-0.44±0.10 points vs -0.19±0.07 points) and at the 12-week follow-up visit (-0.61±0.10 points vs -0.31±0.10 points) (p
Conclusion: Our data suggest that MAP/CB-CAPs testing has clinical utility in facilitating SLE diagnosis and treatment decisions
Current-Current Deformations of Conformal Field Theories, and WZW Models
Moduli spaces of conformal field theories corresponding to current-current
deformations are discussed. For WZW models, CFT and sigma model considerations
are compared. It is shown that current-current deformed WZW models have
WZW-like sigma model descriptions with non-bi-invariant metrics, additional

Asymptotic Safety, Emergence and Minimal Length
There seems to be a common prejudice that asymptotic safety is either
incompatible with, or at best unrelated to, the other topics in the title. This
is not the case. In fact, we show that 1) the existence of a fixed point with
suitable properties is a promising way of deriving emergent properties of
gravity, and 2) there is a sense in which asymptotic safety implies a minimal
length. In so doing we also discuss possible signatures of asymptotic safety in
