    Get PDF
In this work, the design and modeling of the solenoid inductor are discussed. The layout of integrated inductors with magnetic cores and their geometrical parameters are developed. The quality factor Q and inductance value L are extracted from the S-parameters and plotted versus frequency. The effect of solenoid inductor geometry on inductance and quality factor are studied via simulation using MATLAB. The solenoid inductor geometry parameters considered are the number of turns, length of the magnetic core, the width of a magnetic core, the gap between turns, the thickness of the magnetic core, the thickness of the coil and oxide thickness of solenoid inductor. The performance of the proposed solenoid inductor integrated with FeNiCo is compared with other solenoid inductors

The Performance of an Integrated Transformer in a DC/DC Converter

    Get PDF
The separation between the low-voltage part and high-voltage part of the converter is formed by a transformer that transfers power while jamming the DC ring. The resonant mode power oscillator is utilized to allow elevated competence power transfer. The on-chip transformer is probable to have elevated value inductance, elevated quality factors and elevated coupling coefficient to decrease the loss in the oscillation. The performance of a transformer is extremely dependent on the structure, topology and other essential structures that create it compatible with the integrated circuits IC process such as patterned ground shield (PGS). Different types of transformers are modeled and simulated in MATLAB; the performances are compared to select the optimum design. The on-chip transformer model is simulated and the Results of MATLAB simulation are exposed, showing an excellent agreement in radio frequency RF

Modeling and Structure Optimization of Tapped Transformer

    Get PDF
In this paper, a simplified circuit model of the tapped transformer structure has been presented to extract the Geometric and technology parameters and offer better physical understanding. Moreover, the structure of planar transformer has been optimized by using changing the width and space of the primary coil, so as to enlarge the quality factor Q and high coupling coefficient K. To verify the results obtained by using these models, we have compared them with the results obtained by employing the MATLAB simulator. Very good agreement has been recorded for the effective primary inductance value, whereas the effective primary quality factor value has shown a somewhat larger deviation than the inductance

Simulation of an integrated spiral inductor and inter-digital capacitor in a buck micro converter

    Get PDF
In this paper, a novel radiofrequency circuit is designed and developed for an integrated on-chip spiral inductor and inter-digital capacitor of the substrate. Results of extensive simulations concerning the influence of both spiral inductor and inter-digital capacitor geometrical parameters on quality factor value are presented. Two scenarios are considered in the simulation; the first operation of buck converter including an ideal capacitor and inductor and then its operation including an inter-digital capacitor and integrated spiral inductor. For both scenarios, we observed that their respective output voltages as well as their respective output currents present the same time responses

Metadata-driven Data Migration from Object-relational Database to NoSQL Document-oriented Database

    Get PDF
The object-relational databases (ORDB) are powerful for managing complex data, but they suffer from problems of scalability and managing large-scale data. Therefore, the importance of the migration of ORDB to NoSQL derives from the fact that the large volume of data can be handled in the best way with high scalability and availability. This paper reports our metadata-driven approach for the migration of the ORDB to document-oriented NoSQL database. Our data migration approach involves three major stages: a preprocessing stage, to extract the data and the schema's components, a processing stage, to provide the data transformation, and a post-processing stage, to store the migrated data as BSON documents. The approach maintains the benefits of Oracle ORDB in NoSQL MongoDB by supporting integrity constraint checking. To validate our approach, we developed OR2DOD (Object Relational to Document-Oriented Databases) system, and the experimental results confirm the effectiveness of our proposal

    Get PDF
The paper discusses the design and modeling of an integrate octagonal shaped inductor with silicon substrate. A validated equivalent electrical model of the integrated octagonal shaped spiral inductor is developed. The model is used to analyze and evaluate the quality factor and the inductance of the inductor structure proposed under different physical parameters setting. These include the number of turns, spacing between turns and the inner diameter. The simulation results show that an appropriate selection of physic a parameters can achieve an enhanced quality factor and improved inductance. PSIM simulator is used for the implementation of the integrated inductor in a micro buck converter. The simulation results demonstrate that our proposals are very promising approaches for the monolithic integration of DC-DC converters

Integrated through-silicon-via-based inductor design in buck converter for improved efficiency

Introduction. Through-silicon-via (TSV) is one of the most important components of 3D integrated circuits. Similar to two-dimensional circuits, the performance evaluation of 3D circuits depends on both the quality factor and inductance. Therefore, accurate TSV-inductor modeling is required for the design and analysis of 3D integrated circuits. Aim. This work proposes the equivalent circuit model of the TSV-inductor to derive the relations that determine both the quality factor and the inductance by Y-parameters. Methods. The model developed was simulated using MATLAB software, and it was used to evaluate the effect of redistribution lines width, TSV radius, and the number of turns on inductance and quality factor. Additionally, a comparative study was presented between TSV-based inductors and conventional inductors (i.e., spiral and racetrack inductors). Results. These studies show that replacing conventional inductors with TSV-inductors improved the quality factor by 64 % compared to a spiral inductor and 60 % compared to a racetrack inductor. Furthermore, the area of the TSV-inductor was reduced up to 1.2 mm². Using a PSIM simulator, the application of an integrated TSV-inductor in a buck converter was studied, and the simulation gave very good results in 3D integration compared to 2D integration. Moreover, the simulation results demonstrated that using a TSV-inductor in a buck converter could increase its efficiency by up to 15 % and 6 % compared to spiral and racetrack inductors, respectively.

Funding: This research was funded by the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (DGRSDT/MESRS), and by grants from the Wellcome Trust (098731/z/11/z to St Andrews University Bioinformatics Unit) and to the Chief Scientists Office (SIRN10 to M.T.G.H.), and the National Institute for Health Research, Medical Research Council and the Department of Health and Social Care (MR/S004785/1 to M.T.G.H.); this award is also part of the EDCTP2 program supported by the European Union.Staphylococcus aureus is an important pathogen responsible for various healthcare- and community-acquired infections. In this study, whole genome sequencing (WGS) was used to genotype S. aureus clinical isolates from two hospitals in Algeria and to characterize their genetic determinants of antimicrobial resistance. Seventeen S. aureus isolates were included in this study. WGS, single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)-based phylogenetic analysis, in silico multilocus sequence typing (MLST), spa and staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) typing and in silico antimicrobial resistance profiling were performed. Phenotypic antibiotic susceptibility testing was performed using the Vitek 2 system and the disk diffusion method. The isolates were separated into sequence types (STs), with ST80 being predominant; five clonal complexes (CCs); four spa types (t044, t127, t368, t386); and two SCCmec types (IVc and IVa). Whole genome analysis revealed the presence of the resistance genes mecA, blaZ, ermC, fusB, fusC, tetK, aph(3′)-IIIa and aad(6) and mutations conferring resistance in the genes parC and fusA. The rate of multidrug resistance (MDR) was 64%. This work provides a high-resolution characterization of methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) and methicillin-susceptible S. aureus (MSSA) isolates and emphasizes the importance of continuous surveillance to monitor the spread of S. aureus in healthcare settings in the country.Publisher PDFPeer reviewe

Effect of in vitro gastrointestinal digestion on antioxidant potential of three prickly pear variety extracts

    Get PDF
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of in vitro gastrointestinal digestion on the phenolic amounts and their antioxidant potential of three prickly pear variety extracts. The total phenolic compounds (phenolic, flavonoid, and proanthocyanidin) contents were assessed as well as their antioxidant activities (total antioxidant capacity, ferric reducing power, and DPPH free radical scavenging activity) were evaluated before and after digestion. Our results showed that before digestion, the yellow variety possesses high phenolic and proanthocyanidin contents with values of 3176±18 mg GAE/100 g and 90.3±9.8 mg CE/100 g, respectively. However, the red variety has high flavonoids content with a value of 1638±6 mg QE/100 g. Antioxidant activities showed similar trend that phenolic compounds. During the digestion, the antioxidant potential of digested extracts decreased significantly (P<0.001) compared to undigested ones. Hence, this potential increased significantly (P<0.01) from the oral to the intestinal phases. The statistical analysis revealed a moderate correlation between phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity. Hence, IVGID affects the antioxidant potential of extracts, but pH and enzymatic changes do not affect their gut bioaccessibility
