Resistive damping implementation as a method to improve controllability in stiff ohmic RF-MEMS switches
This paper presents in detail the entire procedure of calculating the bias resistance of an ohmic RF-MEMS switch, controlled under resistive damping (charge drive technique). In case of a very stiff device, like the North Eastern University switch, the actuation control under resistive damping is the only way to achieve controllability. Due to the short switching time as well as the high actuation voltage, it is not practical to apply a tailored control pulse (voltage drive control technique). Implementing a bias resistor of 33 MΩ in series with the voltage source, the impact velocity of the cantilever has been reduced 80 % (13.2 from 65.9 cm/s), eliminating bouncing and high initial impact force during the pull-down phase. However, this results in an affordable cost of switching time increase from 2.38 to 4.34 μs. During the release phase the amplitude of bouncing has also been reduced 34 % (174 from 255 nm), providing significant improvement in both switching operation phases of the switch. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg
Standardization of primary processing of fennel (Foeniculum vulgare Mill.) in tribal area of Sirohi (Rajasthan)
An experiment was conducted in a farmer’s field at Sirohi (Rajasthan) during 2009–10 and 2010–11. Five separate experiments on (i) harvesting time (ii) umbels drying structure (iii) fennel threshing floor (iv) grading stages and (v) packing material of fennel, were laid out in a completely randomized design with four treatments replicated five times. The results revealed that different treatments had significant effect on sensory attributes, geometry and economics of fennel seed quality. The fennel umbels which were harvested at post maturity stage [31-40 days after flower initiation (DAFI)] were superior to rest of the harvesting stages and recorded maximum sensory scores, seed dimensions and highest yield (17.35 q ha-1), maximum market rate (Rs. 150.24 kg-1) and B:C ratio (4.62). Results also showed that drying of fennel umbels in modified locally made structures gave better quality of seed over other structures, giving good market price (Rs. 135.74 kg-1). Threshing on RCC floor was found to be better for maintaining good quality of seed. The grading and packing also improved the quality of seed. The fennel seed which was packed in polyethylene lined gunny bag was found to be better because the quality of seed did not deteriorate in terms of taste, colour, and flavour for longer time. Maximum shelf life of produce along with better quality and higher market price was also obtained in this treatment.

We show that any graph, in the sequence given by Haagerup in 1991 as that of
candidates of principal graphs of subfactors, is not realized as a principal
graph except for the smallest two. This settles the remaining case of a

Entangled random pure states with orthogonal symmetry: exact results
We compute analytically the density of Schmidt
eigenvalues, distributed according to a fixed-trace Wishart-Laguerre measure,
and the average R\'enyi entropy for reduced
density matrices of entangled random pure states with orthogonal symmetry
. The results are valid for arbitrary dimensions of the
corresponding Hilbert space partitions, and are in excellent agreement with

Effect of External Noise Correlation in Optical Coherence Resonance
Coherence resonance occurring in semiconductor lasers with optical feedback
is studied via the Lang-Kobayashi model with external non-white noise in the
pumping current. The temporal correlation and the amplitude of the noise have a
highly relevant influence in the system, leading to an optimal coherent
response for suitable values of both the noise amplitude and correlation time.
This phenomenon is quantitatively characterized by means of several statistical

Cardiosphere-derived cells suppress allogeneic lymphocytes by production of PGE2 acting via the EP4 receptor
derived cells (CDCs) are a cardiac progenitor cell population, which have been shown to possess cardiac regenerative properties and can improve heart function in a variety of cardiac diseases. Studies in large animal models have predominantly focussed on using autologous cells for safety, however allogeneic cell banks would allow for a practical, cost-effective and efficient use in a clinical setting. The aim of this work was to determine the immunomodulatory status of these cells using CDCs and lymphocytes from 5 dogs. CDCs expressed MHC I but not MHC II molecules and in mixed lymphocyte reactions demonstrated a lack of lymphocyte proliferation in response to MHC-mismatched CDCs. Furthermore, MHC-mismatched CDCs suppressed lymphocyte proliferation and activation in response to Concanavalin A. Transwell experiments demonstrated that this was predominantly due
to direct cell-cell contact in addition to soluble mediators whereby CDCs produced high levels of PGE2
under inflammatory conditions. This led to down-regulation of CD25 expression on lymphocytes via the
EP4 receptor. Blocking prostaglandin synthesis restored both, proliferation and activation (measured via CD25 expression) of stimulated lymphocytes. We demonstrated for the first time in a large animal model that CDCs inhibit proliferation in allo-reactive lymphocytes and have potent immunosuppressive activity mediated via PGE2
A simple derivation of the Tracy-Widom distribution of the maximal eigenvalue of a Gaussian unitary random matrix
In this paper, we first briefly review some recent results on the
distribution of the maximal eigenvalue of a random matrix drawn
from Gaussian ensembles. Next we focus on the Gaussian Unitary Ensemble (GUE)
and by suitably adapting a method of orthogonal polynomials developed by Gross
and Matytsin in the context of Yang-Mills theory in two dimensions, we provide
a rather simple derivation of the Tracy-Widom law for GUE. Our derivation is
based on the elementary asymptotic scaling analysis of a pair of coupled
nonlinear recursion relations. As an added bonus, this method also allows us to
compute the precise subleading terms describing the right large deviation tail
of the maximal eigenvalue distribution. In the Yang-Mills language, these
subleading terms correspond to non-perturbative (in expansion)
corrections to the two-dimensional partition function in the so called `weak'
