This article is devoted to a series of records concerning rights of succession to the county of Urgell during the years 1188 to 1210. On two occasions Count Ermengol VIII received the sworn professions of fidelity to Countess Elvira, in case of Ermengol's death without heirs, from the people of his major towns in Urgell. And in 1210 King Pere I, acting as lord-protector of Urgell, received oaths of fidelity from the inhabitants of at least two of the same towns. The documents, seven in all, original parchments and (in 1210) papers, apparently unpublished, bear the names of those professing fidelity for Agramunt and Ponts (26-27 January 1188), for Agramunt, Ponts and Linyola (17 August 1206), and for Agramunt and Linyola (1 and 4 March and after 18 April 1210). These records raise questions about procedure, lordship, and the writing of power, and these matters are examined in turn. It is clear that the Count of Urgell laid claim to a quasi-vassalic lordship of homage and fidelity by the end of the twelfth century

The Scripts of Robert of Torigni: Some Notes of Conjectural History

This article argues that, while in agreement with B. Pohl that certain annotations in manuscripts of mid s. xii can safely be attributed to the hand of Robert of Torigni (RT), other passages (chiefly in Avranches, Bibliothèque patrimoniale, ms 210, fol. 112v-115r, and in ms 211, fol. 76r) cannot safely be attributed to anyone other than RT, or to a scribe working under his close direction. Moreover, certain markings in rubrics and datings of Leiden ms BPL 20 may be in RT’s hand. 112v-115r, e in ms 211, fol.

AbstractThe complexation and solvent extraction of Eu(III) and actinides in different oxidation states (Am(III), Pu(IV), Np(V)) by bitopic molecules with a dipyridyl-phenanthroline cycle as nitrogen unit and one or two amido functions are described. The complexation has been studied in methanol-water solution with hydrophilic molecules to enhance knowledge about this new family of ligands and to identify the most interesting structural effect. Some extraction tests have been performed with lipophilic molecules of the family to check the possible utility of the new class of ligands under representative fuel reprocessing conditions. These first studies have demonstrated that the presence of a preorganized N-donors unit like dipyridyl-phenanthroline improves the ligand's affinity for actinides and its An/Ln selectivity

Disturbed Sleep Connects Symptoms of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Somatization: A Network Analysis Approach

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and physical health problems, particularly somatic symptom disorder, are highly comorbid. Studies have only examined this co‐occurrence at the disorder level rather than assessing the associations between specific symptoms. Using network analysis to identify symptoms that act as bridges between these disorders may allow for the development of interventions to specifically target this comorbidity. We examined the association between somatization and PTSD symptoms via network analysis. This included 349 trauma‐exposed individuals recruited through the National Centre for Mental Health PTSD cohort who completed the Clinician‐Administered PTSD Scale for DSM‐5 and the Patient Health Questionnaire–15. A total of 215 (61.6%) individuals met the DSM‐5 diagnostic criteria for PTSD. An exploratory graph analysis identified four clusters of densely connected symptoms within the overall network: PTSD, chronic pain, gastrointestinal issues, and more general somatic complaints. Sleep difficulties played a key role in bridging PTSD and somatic symptoms. Our network analysis demonstrates the distinct nature of PTSD and somatization symptoms, with this association connected by disturbed sleep

Alignment dependent chemisorption of vibrationally excited CH4(ν3) on Ni(100), Ni(110), and Ni(111)

International audienceWe present a stereodynamics study of the dissociative chemisorption of vibrationally excited methane on the (100), (110), and (111) planes of a nickel single crystal surface. Using linearly polarized infrared excitation of the antisymmetric C-H stretch normal mode vibration (ν3), we aligned the angular momentum and C-H stretch amplitude of CH4(ν3) in the laboratory frame and measured the alignment dependence of state-resolved reactivity of CH4 for the ν3 = 1, J = 0-3 quantum states over a range of incident translational energies. For all three surfaces studied, in-plane alignment of the C-H stretch results in the highest dissociation probability and alignment along the surface normal in the lowest reactivity. The largest alignment contrast between the maximum and minimum reactivity is observed for Ni(110), which has its surface atoms arranged in close-packed rows separated by one layer deep troughs. For Ni(110), we also probed for alignment effects relative to the direction of the Ni rows. In-plane C-H stretch alignment perpendicular to the surface rows results in higher reactivity than parallel to the surface rows. The alignment effects on Ni(110) and Ni(100) are independent of incident translational energy between 10 and 50 kJ/mol. Quantum state-resolved reaction probabilities are reported for CH4(ν3) on Ni(110) for translational energies between 10 and 50 kJ/mol

Evidence of distinct profiles of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) based on the new ICD-11 Trauma Questionnaire (ICD-TQ)

BACKGROUND: The WHO International Classification of Diseases, 11th version (ICD-11), has proposed two related diagnoses following exposure to traumatic events; Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex PTSD (CPTSD). We set out to explore whether the newly developed ICD-11 Trauma Questionnaire (ICD-TQ) can distinguish between classes of individuals according to the PTSD and CPTSD symptom profiles as per ICD-11 proposals based on latent class analysis. We also hypothesized that the CPTSD class would report more frequent and a greater number of different types of childhood trauma as well as higher levels of functional impairment. Methods Participants in this study were a sample of individuals who were referred for psychological therapy to a National Health Service (NHS) trauma centre in Scotland (N=193). Participants completed the ICD-TQ as well as measures of life events and functioning. RESULTS: Overall, results indicate that using the newly developed ICD-TQ, two subgroups of treatment-seeking individuals could be empirically distinguished based on different patterns of symptom endorsement; a small group high in PTSD symptoms only and a larger group high in CPTSD symptoms. In addition, CPTSD was more strongly associated with more frequent and a greater accumulation of different types of childhood traumatic experiences and poorer functional impairment. LIMITATIONS: Sample predominantly consisted of people who had experienced childhood psychological trauma or been multiply traumatised in childhood and adulthood. CONCLUSIONS: CPTSD is highly prevalent in treatment seeking populations who have been multiply traumatised in childhood and adulthood and appropriate interventions should now be developed to aid recovery from this debilitating condition
