    Lecturers’ Motivational Strategy in ESP Classroom

    Abstract: This study is aimed to investigate how teachers’ motivational strategies use in ESP classrooms in the success of language teaching. Hence, the present study is trying to examineteachers’ motivationalstrategies and their reasons in ESP classrooms in teaching EnglishatFDIK UIN Mataram from their point of views. This research employed descriptive qualitative design on lecturers’ motivational strategies in ESP classrooms. The subjects of this study are four lecturers of ESP classes representing each departmentsat faculty of dakwah and communication science (FDIK) ofUIN Mataram. Management dakwahdepartment, Islamic community development department, Islamic counseling guidance department, and Islamic communication and broadcasting department.  Then, it was found that ESP teachers in FDIK UIN Mataram generally employ all Ten Commandments for motivating language learner as proposed by Chengand Dornyei(2007). Further, researcher found additional motivational strategy appeared in lecturer no 3that interview strategy is not belong to the ten commandment but also stated in Chengand Dörnyei (2007)as main instrument, it is promoting self-motivating learner strategy. Finally, the reasons why the teachers consider to use those motivational strategies are: (1) bringing teaching practicality and interaction to be easier, more comfortable, and being more fun, (2) creating students’ awareness on the future success, (3) showing their care on students’ learning improvement and interest, and (4) being fair and wise in assessment.     IMPROVING STUDENTS’ TOEFL SCORES USING TOEFL iBT PRACTICE ANDROID APPLICATION

    Abstract: The requirement for all Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University students to achieve at least 450 TOEFL score is really hard since they are non-English department students and lack of vocabulary. Students get difficult to understand the meaning of sentences and vocabulary in the TOEFL test. Moreover, students tend to hang their hope to get high TOEFL score only to the teacher who teaches them TOEFL only in 13 meetings in their fourth semester through Intensive English program held by English Center UIN Malang. Hence, it is really important to help them to improve their TOEFL scores by enriching their vocabulary mastery using TOEFL IBT practice android application in which this application is free to be downloaded, practice to be operated in hand phone, and contains thousands words frequently used in TOEFL.     EFL Apps Potential Unleashed: Enhancing Pre-service Teachers' Digital Literacy via Tech-Vlog

    The aim of this research is to find out how effective English as a Foreign Language (EFL) technology video blogs are as a means of improving Digital Literacy (DL) before EFL services. This research uses sequential explanatory mixed methods, as well as a research design designed as survey and descriptive. Forty-three students in the English department of a state university in West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, took microteaching and technology-enhanced language learning (TELL) classes. Qualitative data was obtained from interviews and reflective journals, while quantitative data was obtained from digital literacy questionnaires. These results suggest that the technology video blog platform had a positive effect on participants' confidence in incorporating technology into their future classrooms. Participants reported that they had better skills in choosing the right apps, creating interactive activities, and encouraging students to become more digitally literate. This research found that technology video blog platforms are a promising tool for improving EFL pre-service teachers' digital literacy. These results emphasize how important it is to combine reflective practice and experiential learning to help pre-service teachers use EFL teaching applications effectively. These results will have an impact on teacher education programs because they will help future educators acquire the digital skills necessary to thrive in a technologically driven educational environment

    THE EFFECT OF PQ4R AND MIND MAPPING TO STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION

    The study aims at proving the effectiveness of the PQ4R and Mind-Mapping strategies in helping students to achieve higher reading comprehension score. The study involved two groups of Electrical Engineering department of UMM which were drawn using random sampling technique. The experimental group was taught using PQ4R (Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review) and Mind-Mapping strategies meanwhile the control group was taught using Direct Reading Activity (DRA) strategy. it was proven that PQ4R and Mind-Mapping strategies were more effective in helping students achieve higher literal comprehension score in reading since the different marginal means of post-test between control and experimental groups was 33.67 and the students were trained to be more active learners

    DEPICTING EFL LEARNERS' STRATEGIES AND DILEMMA IN TRANSLATION

    Depicting EFL Learners' Strategies and Dilemma in Translation. The present study isaimed at depicting EFL learners? strategies and dilemma in conducting English-Indonesia translations. This study will employ survey design with quantitativeapproach. The participants will be 124 EFL learners who are joining translation classat English Education Department, UIN Mataram in academic year 2021/2022. Theadapted questionnaire comprises translation problems in terms of vocabulary,culture understanding, choice of strategy, grammar and specific field of study will beadministered to participants. Furthermore, the collected data will be analyzedstatistically, portrayed into charts, and discussed with existed theories. The result ofthe research showed that all strategies (Newmark, 1988) were applied by students.However, the most dominant strategies used were recognized translation,transference, functional equivalent, synonymy, and shifts. Similar to the analysis onthe EFL students? dilemma in translation, students experienced five dilemmas suchas facing difficulty to choose best strategy to translate, owning limited vocabulary,getting difficult in matching SL and TL grammar, lacking of culture understanding,and being unable to know the translation of specific term in different field.     Pemberdayaan masyarakat untuk merintis kampung Inggris di Desa Kalipakem Kecamatan Donomulyo Kabupaten Malang

    [Bahasa]: Pertumbuhan ilmu pengetahuan, teknologi, dan ekonomi dunia yang cukup pesat, menyebabkan mobilisasi manusia semakin tinggi. Bergulirnya AFTA (Asia Free Trade Agreement) dan bergaungnya era revolusi industri 4.0 membuat masayarakat Indonesia harus memiiki daya saing Internasional. Sehingga, tujuan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah meningkatkan kompetensi bahasa asing komunitas berbasis Desa dengan pembentukan kampung Inggris untuk meningkatkan daya saing masyarakat. Pengabdian ini dilaksanakan di Desa Kalipakem, Kecamatan Donomulyo, kabutapen Malang dengan metode PAR (Participatory Action Research). PAR adalah metode penelitian aksi partisipatoris, dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui masalah yang dihadapi subyek penelitian dan menjadikanya sebagai target untuk dipecahkan sesuai kebutuhan subjek yang diteliti. Pengabdian ini melibatkan tokoh penggerak masyarakat Desa Kalipakem dan masyarakat desa yang meliputi remaja dan ibu-ibu jamaah kemasyarakatan. Metode ini dilakukan untuk memahamkan masyarakat Donomulyo terhadap: a) kelemahan-kelamahan yang dialami dan dimilikinya, b) keinginan-keinginan masyarakat untuk mengatasi kekuranganya, c) menyusun strategi dan metode untuk memecahkan masalahnya dan d) membantu masyarakat mengatasi, memecahkan, dan menemukan jalan keluarnya. Berdasarkan implementasi pengabdian, diketahui bahwa 1) masyarakat Desa Kalipakem memberikan dukungan maksimal melalui antusiasme partisipasi dan pemfasilitasan kegiatan pengabdian, 2) materi pelatihan pengabdian yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan masyarakat mendorong antusiasme pelatihan bahasa Inggris, dan 3) optimisme keterwujudan kampung Inggris di Desa Kalipakem sangatlah tinggi yang ditunjukkan dengan keseriusan setiap pihak dalam mengikuti proses pengabdian. Kata Kunci: kampung Inggris, Participatory Action Research, komunitas, desa [English]: The rapid growth of science, technology, and the world economy has caused human mobilization to increase. The implementation of the AFTA (Asia Free Trade Agreement) and the reverberation of the industrial revolution 4.0 require Indonesian people to boost international competitiveness. Thus, the aim of the present community service was to increase the international language competence ​​in village-based communities by establishing English villages to increase community competitiveness. This program was carried out in the village of Kalipakem, Donomulyo sub-district, Malang using the PAR (Participatory Action Research). PAR is a participatory action research method which aims at finding out the problems faced by research subjects and making them targets to be solved according to the needs of the subjects being studied. It involved community leaders in Kalipakem Village and village communities, including teenagers and community worshipers. This method was utilized to make the community: a) understand experienced and possessed weaknesses, b) understand desires of the community to overcome weaknesses, c) develop strategies and methods to solve the problem, and d) help the community to overcome, to solve, and to find a way out. Based on community service implementation, it was found that 1) Kalipakem villagers provided maximum supports through the enthusiasm of participations and facilitating the community service activities, 2) dedicated training materials that fitted the needs of the community encouraged enthusiasm for English language training, and 3) optimism for the realization of the British kampung in the village of Kalipakem is very high shown by the seriousness of each party in following the activities.     Theme-Rheme Analysis and Thematic Progression in Joko Widodo’s Speech

    Indonesia president, Mr. Joko Widodo, delivered a speech concerning some decisions related to social support and people's massive movements to stop the COVID-19 in Indonesia. Some unique functional grammar, namely theme-rheme and thematic progression, are found in his speech. The research focuses on analyzing the theme-rheme and the thematic progression (TP) types in Joko Widodo's speech both in the source language (SL) or Bahasa Indonesia and target language (TL) or English translation. It made a comparison to depict the differences and similarities between them. This study was a descriptive qualitative research method by taking the speech texts and their translation. The research results showed that the most frequently used theme in both SL and TL speech texts was the topical theme (66%). The second was the textual theme, and the least used was the interpersonal theme. Both SL and TL speech texts employed all thematic progression that shows the texts have been developed cohesively. However, the theme derived thematic progression becomes the most frequent TP as the speaker and translator used a single theme to develop another related theme in the next clause.     The EFL Students’ Perspectives on Library Modalities: Attitude and Correlation to Academic Achievement

    The present study aimed to scrutinize the EFL students\u27 perspectives on library in various modalities to mediate EFL learning and to know the correlation of the EFL students\u27 attitudes to the EFL students\u27 academic achievement. Hence, quantitative research with descriptive and correlational research designs were applied. 112 EFL students in an English Education Department (EED) at a public university in West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia contributed their responses by filling out an online questionnaire containing questions to answer the research goals and sharing their GPA files. To analyze the data, descriptive and correlational statistical calculations through SPSS 24 version were done. The results showed that EFL students had positive perspectives toward library modalities which were reflected by their attitude to frequently visiting the library in various modalities. Moreover, the EFL students’ positive belief about the correlation of their attitude with academic achievement was supported by statistical calculations and previous studies. However, further studies to confirm these research findings will be suggestible due to the limitations of this research. Hence, it is suggested to enhance the significance of the library in various modalities for academic purposes by increasing the visits

    EFL students perspective towards online learning barriers and alternatives using Moodle/Google classroom during COVID-19 pandemic

    Covid-19 pandemic has made many countries adapt on new situations in different sectors including education. The Indonesia government has decided to adjust the education mode from face-to-face to online meeting using various learning management systems (LMS) such as moodle and google classroom. Moreover, the present research depicted the online learning barriers faced by students as well as their alternatives to cope them. The research implemented descriptive mixed-method survey design. The participants were 25 students of English Education Department. The instruments used to gather the data were the questionnaires and interview regarding the topics. The results showed that students experienced three barriers during the online learning including infamiliriaty of e-learning, slow internet connection, and physical condition e.g. eye strain. The alternatives they proposed were providing training to implement the LMS before the real class, converting high-definition or big-size files into smaller one, and giving break during the online class. The conclusion stated that students had to be creatives to find any solutions and innovations regarding learning barriers including maintaining good communication with teacher and understanding best learning styles individuall
