    Orthogonal Projections Based on Hyperbolic and Spherical n-Simplex

    In this paper, orthogonal projection along a geodesic to the chosen k-plane is introduced using edge and Gram matrix of an n-simplex in hyperbolic or spherical n-space.     A resilient key predistribution scheme for multiphase wireless sensor networks

    In wireless sensor networks, sensor nodes eventually die due to battery depletion. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) in which new nodes are periodically redeployed with certain intervals, called generations, to replace the dead nodes are called multi-phase wireless sensor networks. In the literature, there are several key predistribution schemes proposed for secure operation of WSNs. However, these schemes are designed for single phase networks which are not resilient against continuous node capture attacks; even under temporary attacks on the network, the harm caused by the attacker does not heal in time. However, the periodic deployments in multi-phase sensor networks could be utilized to improve the resiliency of the WSNs by deploying nodes with fresh keys. In the literature, there is limited work done in this area. In this paper, we propose a key predistribution scheme for multi-phase wireless sensor networks which is highly resilient under node capture attacks. In our scheme, called RGM (random generation material) key predistribution scheme, each generation of deployment has its own random keying material and pairwise keys are established between node pairs of particular generations. These keys are specific to these generations. Therefore, a captured node cannot be abused to obtain keys of other generations. We compare the performance of our RGM scheme with a well-known multi-phase key predistribution scheme and showed that RGM achieves up to three-fold more resiliency. Even under heavy attacks, our scheme's resiliency performance is 50% better in steady state

    A practical and secure multi-keyword search method over encrypted cloud data

    Cloud computing technologies become more and more popular every year, as many organizations tend to outsource their data utilizing robust and fast services of clouds while lowering the cost of hardware ownership. Although its benefits are welcomed, privacy is still a remaining concern that needs to be addressed. We propose an efficient privacy-preserving search method over encrypted cloud data that utilizes minhash functions. Most of the work in literature can only support a single feature search in queries which reduces the effectiveness. One of the main advantages of our proposed method is the capability of multi-keyword search in a single query. The proposed method is proved to satisfy adaptive semantic security definition. We also combine an effective ranking capability that is based on term frequency-inverse document frequency (tf-idf) values of keyword document pairs. Our analysis demonstrates that the proposed scheme is proved to be privacy-preserving, efficient and effective

    Evaluation of risk factors associated with pancreatic adenocarcinoma in Black Sea region, Turkey

    Aim: To evaluate the risk factors in patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma in Turkey's Black Sea region and to determine groups at high risk for pancreatic cancer. Methods: 106 newly diagnosed pancreatic adenocarcinoma patients living in Black Sea region of Turkey who applied to our clinic between January 2015 and December 2016 were included in this study. In the same period a control group was formed with 92 patients of similar age. Both groups were asked to fill out a form that questioned the pancreatic cancer risk factors. Data were analyzed. Results: Pancreatic cancer risk was 3.5 times higher in people over 65 years of age. Patients with deficient level of serum vitamin D level (<20 ng/ml) had 10.2 times more risk of pancreatic cancer than patients with normal level of Vitamin D (≥30 ng/ml). While newly diagnosed type 2 diabetics had 19.5 times higher risk of pancreatic cancer, long term type 2 diabetics had 1.2 times higher risk than normal individuals. Those with pancreatic cancer in family had 4.3 times higher risk than those who did not. It was observed that people with rhesus (Rh) antigen negative blood group has 70% less risk of pancreatic cancer. Conclusion: Determination of pancreatic cancer risk factors, organization of imaging and screening programs for high-risk people can provide early diagnosis of the disease and prolong survival

    Nonradiative energy transfer in colloidal CdSe nanoplatelet films

    Nonradiative energy transfer (NRET) has been extensively studied in colloidal nanocrystal (quantum dots) and nanorod (quantum wires) assemblies. In this work, we present the first account of spectroscopic evidence of NRET in solid thin films of CdSe based colloidal nanoplatelets (NPLs), also known as colloidal quantum wells. The NRET was investigated as a function of the concentration of two NPL populations with different vertical thicknesses via steady state and time resolved spectroscopy. NRET takes place from the NPLs with smaller vertical thickness (i.e., larger band gap) to the ones with a larger vertical thickness (i.e., smaller band gap) with efficiency up to similar to 60%. Here, we reveal that the NRET efficiency is limited in these NPL solid film assemblies due to the self-stacking of NPLs within their own population causing an increased distance between the donor-acceptor pairs, which is significantly different to previously studied colloidal quantum dot based architectures for nonradiative energy transfer

    Primary Renal Synovial Sarcoma

    Synovial sarcomas are generally deep-seated tumors that most often occur in the proximity of large joints of adolescents and young adults. We describe two cases of primary renal synovial sarcoma that were treated successfully by radical nephrectomy. Synovial sarcoma originating from the kidney is extremely rare and the histogenesis is uncertain. Surgical resection and ifosfamide based chemotherapy are the mainstay for the management of renal synovial sarcoma. Fewer than 40 patients have been described in the English literature. Physicians should be aware of the possibility of malignancy in cystic renal masses and raise the suspicion of synovial sarcoma, especially when patients with renal masses are a young adult

    Occurrence and diversity of black-foot pathogens on asymptomatic nursery-produced grapevines in Turkiye

    [EN] Black-foot (BF) disease of grapevines in nurseries and young vineyards is caused by soil-borne Cylindrocarpon-like asexual morphs. They can be found both in symptomatic and asymptomatic vines, being spread to new grape growing areas during vineyard establishment. In this study, 42 grapevine nurseries located in different geographical regions in Turkiye were surveyed in 2021 to determine the presence of BF pathogens on asymptomatic marketable plants. Black-foot fungi were isolated from the roots or basal ends of asymptomatic dormant vines in 39 of the nurseries (92.9%). The percentage of isolation of BF pathogens ranged from 1.4 to 51.4% (average 18.4%). Seven species: Cylindrodendrum alicantinum, Cylindrocladiella peruviana, Dactylonectria macrodidyma, D. novozelandica, D. torresensis, Ilyonectria liriodendri, and I. robusta were identified based on DNA sequencing of histone H3 gene and phylogenetic analyses, D. torresensis being the most frequent. From these species Ca. peruviana, D. novozelandica and I. robusta were detected for the first time on grapevines in Turkiye. Pathogenicity tests on 1103P rootstock cuttings revealed that all species significantly decreased root biomass and increased root disease severity index, when compared with the non-inoculated control, D. novozelandica being the most virulent. Pathogenicity of Cm. alicantinum to grapevine was confirmed for the first time, thus this species should be included as causal agent of BF of grapevines.     Acute effect of phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor on serum oxidative status and prolidase activities in men with erectile dysfunction

    OBJECTIVES: To investigate the acute effect of phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor on erectile dysfunction by evaluating serum oxidative status and prolidase activity. METHODS: Serum samples of 36 patients with erectile dysfunction and 30 control cases were analyzed for total antioxidant status, total oxidant status, and prolidase activity, before and after the administration of tadalafil citrate. RESULTS: Before and after tadalafil citrate administration, serum total antioxidant status, total oxidant status, and prolidase were 1.1+0.0 vs. 1.6 + 0.0 umol H2O2 Eq/L, 10.3+1.1 vs. 6.9 + 1.2 umol H2O2 Eq/L, and 236.4+19.5 vs. 228.2 + 19.2 U/L, respectively (

    Continuously Tunable Emission in Inverted Type-I CdS/CdSe Core/Crown Semiconductor Nanoplatelets

    The synthesis and unique tunable optical properties of core/crown nanoplatelets having an inverted Type-I heterostructure are presented. Here, colloidal 2D CdS/CdSe heteronanoplatelets are grown with thickness of four monolayers using seed-mediated method. In this work, it is shown that the emission peak of the resulting CdS/CdSe heteronanoplatelets can be continuously spectrally tuned between the peak emission wavelengths of the core only CdS nanoplatelets (421 nm) and CdSe nanoplatelets (515 nm) having the same vertical thickness. In these inverted Type-I nanoplatelets, the unique continuous tunable emission is enabled by adjusting the lateral width of the CdSe crown, having a narrower bandgap, around the core CdS nanoplatelet, having a wider bandgap, as a result of the controlled lateral quantum confinement in the crown region additional to the pure vertical confinement. As a proof-of-concept demonstration, a white light generation is shown by using color conversion with these CdS/CdSe heteronanoplatelets having finely tuned thin crowns, resulting in a color rendering index of 80. The robust control of the electronic structure in such inverted Type-I heteronanoplatelets achieved by tailoring the lateral extent of the crown coating around the core template presents a new enabling pathway for bandgap engineering in solution-processed quantum wells
