Social continuity and religious coexistence: the Muslim community of Tudela in Navarre before the expulsion of 1516

    Get PDF
This article evaluates the presence of Muslim communities in the Kingdom of Navarre in the late Middle Ages. Following the Christian Reconquest of the Navarrese bank of the Ebro in 1119, a sizeable Muslim community remained in Christian territory until 1516. This article focuses on the fifteenth century, a period for which religious coexistence in the smallest of the Iberian Christian kingdoms is in need of further contextualisation. An analysis of existing scholarship and new archival evidence throws light on the economic activities of the Muslims in Tudela as well as on their relationship with the Navarrese monarchy, their collective identity, their legal systems and their relationships not only with their Christian and Jewish neighbours, but also with other Iberian Muslim communities including those of Al Andalus, or Moorish Iberia

Towards the development of the supply chain of concentrated solar power

This work focuses on the investigation into the planning of renewable energy power plants in Brazil using the Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) technology. The main aim of the paper is to present an analysis of the planning process that can be used as a basis of the development of a method to assess the Brazilian’s local manufacturing and supply chain capabilities in supporting the deployment of the CSP technology. The paper identifies areas in which the concerted efforts should be emphasized. For this, the paper will first discuss the key components of the chosen CSP technology (in this case the parabolic through). The manufacturing processes of these components will subsequently be analyzed and the key enabling technologies will be determined. The demands of electricity will be estimated using the System Advisory Model®, a modelling tool developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). An assessment method will finally be proposed to identify the potentials of the local Brazilian supply chain, through the readiness evaluation of the key enabling technologies and manufacturing processes

The crystal structure of C I2HIsNO7 has been determined at room temperature. Crystals are tetragonal, space group P432~2, Z = 8, with a -- 12.039 (1), c = 17.979 (4)A. 1304 observed reflexions contributed to the full-matrix least-squares refinement to give R -- 0.075. The pyranose ring displays a slightly distorted chair with 4C~ conformation and all the substituents (furanose ring, NO 2 and OH groups) are equatorial. The reported configuration can be considered as the absolute configuration from the absence of epimerization at the anomeric atom. The packing of the structure can be described by a three-dimensional hydrogen-bonding scheme

The title compound is monoclinic, space group P2 Jc, with a = 4.020 (4), b = 21.491(3), c = 7-410 (4) ,4,, fl = 124.1 (5) °, Z = 4. The structure was solved by Patterson-function and heavy-atom methods from diffractometer X-ray data. The final R value is 0.040. All the atoms lie approximately on the least-squares plane of the imidazoline ring. The molecules related by the glide plane are linked by N-H... O hydrogen bonds (2.840 ,~) to form a chain along e. The chains are held together by N-H... S hydrogen bonds (3.260 A) between the molecules related by an inversion centre
