Probabilistic Uncertainty Quantification of Prediction Models with Application to Visual Localization
The uncertainty quantification of prediction models (e.g., neural networks)
is crucial for their adoption in many robotics applications. This is arguably
as important as making accurate predictions, especially for safety-critical
applications such as self-driving cars. This paper proposes our approach to
uncertainty quantification in the context of visual localization for autonomous
driving, where we predict locations from images. Our proposed framework
estimates probabilistic uncertainty by creating a sensor error model that maps
an internal output of the prediction model to the uncertainty. The sensor error
model is created using multiple image databases of visual localization, each
with ground-truth location. We demonstrate the accuracy of our uncertainty
prediction framework using the Ithaca365 dataset, which includes variations in
lighting, weather (sunny, snowy, night), and alignment errors between
databases. We analyze both the predicted uncertainty and its incorporation into
a Kalman-based localization filter. Our results show that prediction error
variations increase with poor weather and lighting condition, leading to
greater uncertainty and outliers, which can be predicted by our proposed
uncertainty model. Additionally, our probabilistic error model enables the
filter to remove ad hoc sensor gating, as the uncertainty automatically adjusts

HUBUNGAN GAYA KEPEMIMPINAN DAN MOTIVASI DENGAN KINERJA KARYAWAN DI PT. BINA VALASINDO JAKARTA
This research investigates the relation between Leadership style and Motivation with Employee Performance in PT. Bina Valasindo Jakarta, one of the few competitive money changer companies in Jakarta. A sample of 60 respondents were interviewed using questionnaire with simple random sampling methods. The spearman rank correlation was used to test the three hypothesis that guided the research. The result obtained from the analysis showed that there existed relation between Leadership Style and Motivation with Employee Performance. The research reveals that leadership style and motivation given to workers in an organization has a significant influence on the workers performance. The researcher therefore suggests that the company pays more attention on the effective leadership style used and the motivation given to their employees by fullfiling their basic needs, carrier enhacement needs, giving insentive (financial or nonfinancial), bonus and other benefits.Keywords: Human Resource, Leadership, Motivation, and Performanc
Epidemiology of Alcohol Misuse and Illicit Drug Use Among Young People Aged 15-24 Years in Fishing Communities in Uganda.
BACKGROUND: We determined the prevalence of and risk factors for alcohol misuse and illicit drug use among young Ugandans in fishing communities, a recognised "key population" for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional survey among young people (15-24 years) in fishing communities in Koome, Uganda, in December 2017-July 2018. Using Audio-Assisted Self-Interviewing, we collected data on socio-demographic characteristics and alcohol use, including the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) and timeline follow-back calendar (TLFB). Blood samples were analysed for HIV, herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV2), and Phosphatidyl ethanol (PEth 16:0/18:1). Urine samples were analysed for illicit drugs. RESULTS: Among 1281 participants (52.7% male, mean age 20 years), 659 (51.4%) reported ever drinking alcohol, 248 (19.4%) had 12-month-AUDIT â„ 8, and 261 (20.5%) had whole-blood PEth 16:0/18:1 concentration â„ 20 ng/mL, indicating significant consumption. In multivariable analyses, PEth 16:0/18:1 â„ 20ng/mL, AUDIT â„ 8 and binge drinking (â„6 standard drinks per drinking occasion in the previous month from TLFB) were all strongly associated with older age, low education, smoking, and HSV2. Illicit drug use prevalence was 5.2% and was associated with older age, low education, being single, and smoking. CONCLUSION: Levels of alcohol misuse were high among young people in fishing communities and associated with HSV2, a proxy for risky sexual behaviour. Alcohol and illicit drug harm reduction services and HIV prevention programs in Uganda should prioritise young fisherfolk
Depth map of the Rosetta Stone
The Digital Rosetta Stone is a project developed at Leipzig University by the Chair of Digital Humanities and the Egyptological Institute/Egyptian Museum Georg Steindorff in collaboration with the British Museum and the Digital Epigraphy and Archaeology Project of the University of Florida. The aims of the project are to produce a collaborative digital edition of the Rosetta Stone, address standardization and customization issues for the scholarly community, create data that can be used by students to understand the document in terms of language and content, and produce a high-resolution 3D model of the inscription. The three versions of the text were transcribed and outputted in XML, according to the EpiDoc guidelines. Next, the versions were aligned with the Ugarit iAligner tool that supports the alignment of ancient texts with modern languages, such as English and German. All three texts were then parsed syntactically and morphologically through Treebank annotation. Finally, the project explored new 3D-digitization methodologies of the Rosetta Stone in the British Museum that enhances traditional archaeological methods and facilitates the study of the artifact. High Burden of Previously Undiagnosed HIV Infections and Gaps in HIV Care Cascade for Conflict-Affected Female Sex Workers in Northern Uganda
Given the disproportionate HIV burden faced by female sex workers FSWs and limited data regarding their engagement in the HIV cascade of care in conflict-affected settings, we characterized the cascade of care and examined associations with new HIV diagnoses and antiretroviral therapy (ART) use in a community-based cohort of FSWs in conflict-affected Northern Uganda. Data were collected via FSW/peer-led time-location sampling and outreach, interview-administered questionnaires, and voluntary HIV testing. Of 400 FSWs, 33.5% were living with HIV, of whom 33.6% were new/previously undiagnosed infections and 32.8% were on ART. Unstable housing and heavy alcohol/drug use were independently associated with increased odds of new HIV diagnoses, whereas exposure to condom demonstrations and number of lifetime pregnancies were negatively associated. In subanalysis among known HIV-positive women, age and time since diagnosis were associated with ART use, whereas sexually transmitted infections were negatively associated. Findings suggest the need for FSW-tailored, peer-based, and integrated HIV and sexual and reproductive health programs to address gaps in HIV testing and treatment for FSWs in conflict-affected communities
Development and evaluation of a hospital discharge information package to empower parents in caring for a child with a fever
Objectives: First, to explore parentsâ views on and experiences of managing their febrile child and to assess their behaviour and needs when in search of information about fever; second, to develop and evaluate a hospital discharge information package about fever in children. Design: Mixed methods: (A) qualitative study with semistructured interviews and a focus group discussion (FGD) and (B) quantitative survey. Setting: Emergency department, non-acute hospital setting and day nursery in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Participants: Parents of children <18 years (interviews, n=22) parents of children under 5âyears (FGD (n=14), survey (n=38)). Intervention: Information package about fever in children (leaflet and website including videos). Outcome measures quantitative survey: Knowledge of fever and confidence in caring for a febrile child (Likert scale 0â5). Results: Parents found fever mostly alarming, especially high fever. Help-seeking behaviour was based on either specific symptoms or on an undefined intuition. When parents did not feel recognised in their concern or felt criticised, anxiety increased as well as the threshold to seek healthcare for future illnesses. Information was needed, especially for situations when the general practitioner or social network were less easily available. This information should be reliable, consistent, available in multiple formats and include advice on management of fever at home and precise referral to medical services. Parents reported improved knowledge about fever (p<0.05) and mentioned improved confidence in caring for a child with fever at home after consulting the information package. Conclusion: Parents of children with a fever visiting the hospital are concerned about specific symptoms or based on an undefined intuition. Rather than telling parents that they should manage their childâs illness at home, healthcare professionals should recognise parental intuition and provide clear information on alarming signs and potential diagnoses to empower parents in the management of their febrile child
Genetic influences on externalizing psychopathology overlap with cognitive functioning and show developmental variation
Background: Questions remain regarding whether genetic influences on early life psychopathology overlap with cognition and show developmental variation.
Methods: Using data from 9,421 individuals aged 8-21 from the Philadelphia Neurodevelopmental Cohort, factors of psychopathology were generated using a bifactor model of item-level data from a psychiatric interview. Five orthogonal factors were generated: anxious-misery (mood and anxiety), externalizing (attention deficit hyperactivity and conduct disorder), fear (phobias), psychosis-spectrum, and a general factor. Genetic analyses were conducted on a subsample of 4,662 individuals of European American ancestry. A genetic relatedness matrix was used to estimate heritability of these factors, and genetic correlations with executive function, episodic memory, complex reasoning, social cognition, motor speed, and general cognitive ability. Gene Ă Age analyses determined whether genetic influences on these factors show developmental variation.
Results: Externalizing was heritable (h2 = 0.46, p = 1 Ă 10-6), but not anxious-misery (h2 = 0.09, p = 0.183), fear (h2 = 0.04, p = 0.337), psychosis-spectrum (h2 = 0.00, p = 0.494), or general psychopathology (h2 = 0.21, p = 0.040). Externalizing showed genetic overlap with face memory (Ïg = -0.412, p = 0.004), verbal reasoning (Ïg = -0.485, p = 0.001), spatial reasoning (Ïg = -0.426, p = 0.010), motor speed (Ïg = 0.659, p = 1x10-4), verbal knowledge (Ïg = -0.314, p = 0.002), and general cognitive ability (g)(Ïg = -0.394, p = 0.002). Gene Ă Age analyses revealed decreasing genetic variance (Îłg = -0.146, p = 0.004) and increasing environmental variance (Îłe = 0.059, p = 0.009) on externalizing.
Conclusions: Cognitive impairment may be a useful endophenotype of externalizing psychopathology and, therefore, help elucidate its pathophysiological underpinnings. Decreasing genetic variance suggests that gene discovery efforts may be more fruitful in children than adolescents or young adults
Ithaca365: Dataset and Driving Perception under Repeated and Challenging Weather Conditions
Advances in perception for self-driving cars have accelerated in recent years
due to the availability of large-scale datasets, typically collected at
specific locations and under nice weather conditions. Yet, to achieve the high
safety requirement, these perceptual systems must operate robustly under a wide
variety of weather conditions including snow and rain. In this paper, we
present a new dataset to enable robust autonomous driving via a novel data
collection process - data is repeatedly recorded along a 15 km route under
diverse scene (urban, highway, rural, campus), weather (snow, rain, sun), time
(day/night), and traffic conditions (pedestrians, cyclists and cars). The
dataset includes images and point clouds from cameras and LiDAR sensors, along
with high-precision GPS/INS to establish correspondence across routes. The
dataset includes road and object annotations using amodal masks to capture
partial occlusions and 3D bounding boxes. We demonstrate the uniqueness of this
dataset by analyzing the performance of baselines in amodal segmentation of
road and objects, depth estimation, and 3D object detection. The repeated
routes opens new research directions in object discovery, continual learning,
