Present survey basically focused on women between 15-45 years of age resident in a town of Sistan and Baluchistan province named as Saravan city located in border of Pakistan-Iran in order to find out the seropositivity against the viruses in child bearing ages in the above stated under study community. This descriptive cross-sectional study was carried-out from 2001 up to 2002. Saravan town was divided into 4 geographical areas and each area was further sub-divided into 10 blocks and in each block 10 families were chosen randomly. In the next step by referring to each family from the chosen married women with specified age i.e., 15-45 years, 5 mL blood was collected. Serum was then separated and stored at -20°C before the assay. ELISA kit was employed to detect anti B19, anti rubella, anti measles, anti HBV and anti HCV antibody. Furthermore during samples collection a questionnaire filled for each woman under study. This study showed that 89.6% of women understudy were seropositive against measles, rubella (96.2%), B19 (59.2%), HCV (0.8%) and HBV (19.8%), respectively. According to the results of no serious problem with rubella in this area; But, about measles, the present immunity against measles in this area is insufficient. It seems that incidence of B19 infection in this region is same as other places in Iran. The rate of seropositivity against HBV and HCV indicated of these viruses circulating in the population in this area. © 2007 Academic Journals

Due to the important roles of resistance training and protein consumption in the prevention and treatment of sarcopenia, we assessed the efficacy of post-exercise Icelandic yogurt consumption on lean mass, strength, and skeletal muscle regulatory factors in healthy untrained older males. Thirty healthy untrained older males (age = 68 ± 4 yr) were randomly assigned to Icelandic yogurt (IR; n =15, 18 g of protein) or an iso-energetic placebo (PR; n =15, 0 g protein) immediately following resistance training (3x/week) for eight weeks. Before and after training, lean mass, strength, and skeletal muscle regulatory factors (insulin-like growth factor-1 [IGF-1], transforming growth factor-beta 1 [TGF-β1], growth differentiation factor 15 [GDF15], Activin A, myostatin [MST], and follistatin [FST]) were assessed. There were group x time interactions (p < 0.05) for body mass (IR: Δ 1, PR: Δ 0.7 kg), body mass index (IR: Δ 0.3, PR: Δ 0.2 kg∙m-2), lean mass (IR: Δ 1.3, PR: Δ 0.6 kg), bench press (IR: Δ 4, PR: 2.3 kg), leg press (IR: Δ 4.2, PR: Δ 2.5 kg), IGF-1 (IR: Δ 0.5, Δ PR: 0.1 ng∙mL-1), TGF-β (IR: Δ -0.2, PR: Δ -0.1 ng∙mL-1), GDF15 (IR: Δ -10.3, PR: Δ -4.8 pg∙mL-1), Activin A (IR: Δ -9.8, PR: Δ -2.9 pg∙mL-1), MST (IR: Δ -0.1, PR: Δ -0.04 ng∙mL-1), and FST (IR: Δ 0.09, PR: Δ 0.03 ng∙mL-1), with Icelandic yogurt consumption resulting in greater changes compared to placebo. The addition of Icelandic yogurt consumption to a resistance training program improved lean mass, strength, and altered skeletal muscle regulatory factors in healthy untrained older males compared to placebo. Therefore, Icelandic yogurt as a nutrient-dense source and cost-effective supplement enhances muscular gains mediated by resistance training and consequently may be used as a strategy for the prevention of sarcopenia

Neuroprotective Effects of Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells on Bilateral Common Carotid Arteries Occlusion Model of Cerebral Ischemia in Rat

Cell therapy is the most advanced treatment of the cerebral ischemia, nowadays. Herein, we discuss the neuroprotective effects of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) on rat hippocampal cells following intravenous injection of these cells in an ischemia-reperfusion model. Adult male Wistar rats were divided into 5 groups: control, sham (surgery without blockage of common carotid arteries), ischemia (common carotid arteries were blocked for 30 min prior to reperfusion), vehicle (7 days after ischemia PBS was injected via the tail vein), and treatment (injections of BMSC into the tail veins 7 days after ischemia). We performed neuromuscular and vestibulomotor function tests to assess behavioral function and, finally, brains were subjected to hematoxylin and eosin (H&E), anti-Brdu immunohistochemistry, and TUNEL staining. The ischemia group had severe apoptosis. The group treated with BMSCs had a lower mortality rate and also had significant improvement in functional recovery (P<0.001). Ischemia-reperfusion for 30 min causes damage and extensive neuronal death in the hippocampus, especially in CA1 and CA3 regions, leading to several functional and neurological deficits. In conclusion, intravenous injection of BMSCs can significantly decrease the number of apoptotic neurons and significantly improve functional recovery, which may be a beneficial treatment method for ischemic injuries. © 2016 Bagher Pourheydar et al

Microfilament polyester yarns are one of the most important and widely used yarns in the textile industry and the fabrics produced from these yarns have a large consumption. One of the most important issues regarding fabrics made from Microfilament yarns is the issue of dyeing and dyeing properties of these fabrics. Among the concerns of DTY polyester yarn manufacturers are the conditions for producing and texturizing these fibers. Choosing the right range for each of the effective parameters in the false twist texturing machines will play a major role in the physical properties, dyeing Characteristic and color properties of the yarn produced. In this paper, we attempt to study the effect of the most important texturing parameters by false twist method: first heater temperature, draw ratio, D/Y rate and texturing speed on some of the most important color properties of microfilament polyester yarn that dyeing with dispersant dyestuff. These properties include color reflectance (% R), color strength (K/S), amount of dye absorbed ( ) and absorbance number (A). Experiments are designed using ANOVA and Response Surface Methodology (RSM) method. The effect of changes in the main texturing parameters on the color coordinates of the microfilament polyester yarn is studied. The POY yarn used in this study is polyester yarn with a count of 135 dtex and 144 filaments. According to the studies, the interaction between the first heater temperature and the D / Y rate as well as the interaction between the draw ratio and the D / Y rate will have the greatest effect on the color strength and color properties of the microfilament polyester yarn

Background: Some children who have survived cancer will be azoospermic in the future. Performing isolation and purification procedures for spermatogonial stem cells (SSC) is very critical. In this regard, performing the process of decontamination of cancerous cells is the initial step. The major objective of the present study is to separate the malignant EL4 cell line in mice and spermatogonial stem cells in vitro. Methods: The spermatogonial stem cells of sixty neonatal mice were isolated, and the procedure of co-culturing was carried out by EL4 which were classified into 2 major groups: (1) the control group (co-culture in a growth medium) and (2) the group of co-cultured cells which were separated using the microfluidic device. The percentage of cells was assessed using flow cytometry technique and common laboratory technique of immunocytochemistry and finally was confirmed through the laboratory technique of reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Results: The actual percentage of EL4 and SSC after isolation was collected at two outlets: the outputs for the smaller outlet were 0.12 for SSC and 42.14 for EL4, while in the larger outlet, the outputs were 80.38 for SSC and 0.32 for EL4; in the control group, the percentages of cells were 21.44 for SSC and 23.28 for EL4 (based on t test (p 0.05)). Conclusions: The present study demonstrates that the use of the microfluidic device is effective in separating cancer cells from spermatogonial stem cells. © 2020 The Author(s)

Gendered Representations of Male and Female Social Actors in Iranian Educational Materials

    Get PDF
This research investigates the representations of gendered social actors within the subversionary discourse of equal educational opportunities for males and females in Iranian English as a Foreign Language (EFL) books. Using critical discourse analysis (CDA) as the theoretical framework, the authors blend van Leeuwen’s (Texts and practices: Readings in critical discourse analysis, Routledge, London, 2003) ‘Social Actor Network Model’ and Sunderland’s (Gendered discourses, Palgrave Macmillan, Hampshire, 2004) ‘Gendered Discourses Model’ in order to examine the depictions of male and female social actors within this gendered discourse. The gendered discourse of equal opportunities was buttressed by such representations within a tight perspective in proportion to gender ideologies prevailing in Iran. Resorting to CDA, we can claim that resistance against such gendered discourse in Iranian EFL textbooks militates against such gender norms. These representations of male and female social actors in school books are indicative of an all-encompassing education, reinforcing that the discourse of equal opportunities is yet to be realized in the education system of Iran

Design and Development of a Web Extension to Help Facilitate the Learning of a Foreign Language

    Get PDF
Learning a foreign language is a time consuming task that requires perseverance, commitment and hard work. The time required to learn a foreign language can range from hundreds to thousands of hours, depending on the language being learnt and the native language of the learner. Two major barriers to learning a language are lack of motivation and time. Spending increasing amounts of time online also has a detrimental effect on learning a language. The global digital language learning industry is growing and the market has more than doubled in size in the last decade due to the world becoming increasingly interconnected. There is a need to provide users with a web browser extension that is both interactive and continuous for learning a language. This paper presents the design and development of a web browser extension that will help facilitate the learning of foreign languages. The web extension overrides the default content when either a new tab or window is opened with interactive language learning material. The web extension is compatible with the desktop version of the Chrome web browser. Each time a new tab or window is opened, a range of language learning material are presented at random, which can be read, understood and completed in 30 seconds or less with immediate feedback. Overriding the web browser’s functionality ensures the user is exposed to language learning material
